Can Jokic & the Nuggets FINALLY get a 10-Game Win Streak?
[Music] [Applause] [Music] Hey. Hey. Hey. [Music] All right, here we go. Live in the middle of Serbia, Czech Republic. What’s going on everybody? Welcome into the DMBR Nuggets podcast. [Music] We are live on a Friday, casual Friday, the twoman game for now. Adam Mars will be joining shortly. I’m Harrison Wind along with my guy Brendan Vote. What’s going on, man? What’s up, man? How’s it going? And we missed you yesterday on a very fun show of who’s the highest um on certain Nuggets basketball players. I should clarify that. That’s that was the topic. And a lot of fun. And you got absolutely thrown under the bus by the chat while you weren’t there. I did 100%. You got thrown under the You got thrown under the bus for Remember when we did the excitement ranking scale for Jokic and you gave him a nine? You big brained it. I did give him a nine. Yeah, that disqualified you in the chat’s mind from being highest on Jokic. Yeah, I’m trying to remember why I gave him a nine. I don’t think it was a very good argument. No offense, you know, he is kind of exciting honestly. Like I think I’m the highest on Jokic like we probably all do, but I’m not mad at the chat for disqualifying me because of that tip. We really couldn’t pick with the other hard one was Aaron Gordon where we we tried to figure out and that one just that one felt wrong. Anyone being anything less than thinking they’re his biggest fan doesn’t work that way, you know? Right. Yeah, that’s that’s a good discussion. Shame. I couldn’t be there for it, but I’m sure you guys held it down. Um, we’re coming to you live on this casual Friday during the Serbia Czech Republic game. I don’t know if anybody’s been following along. Um, Serbia playing Czech Republic in a little friendly Euro basket warm-up game right now. Uh, checking in on the stats as I’ll do throughout today’s show. Serbia up big 9268. Start the fourth quarter. Yolks got 12 four and six. Five of six shooting. So nearly a perfect game. He’s a plus 25 for Serbia. Plus 25. Yeah, that checks out. Keep us keep us updated there in the chat as we know some of you are definitely multitasking which we appreciate. Bdonovich that’s having the big game today. 20 points, seven of 11. He’s hit four threes or sorry three threes. So he’s really carrying the offensive load for Serbia today. But um Yoke I I tuned into like the first quarter. Looked good. Looked good. Yeah. Did Did he Did Jokic look good? That checks out. I really I can’t wait to watch this team, man. I really can’t wait because I know they’re they’re so stacked. I know. It’s going to be great. Our first topic though, we got some breaking news right before the show started. The Nuggets have made a couple more coaching hires. The first one and the more significant one it seems the Nuggets are hiring Mike Moser as an assistant coach according to Mike Scotto and this is reportedly at least from what it sounds like an assistant coach who’s going to be on the front of the Nuggets bench. He was just an assistant coach in Houston with the Rockets. Before that he worked with the Celtics also under Eay Udoka. He’s worked for the Mavs as well. Um, he’s a former player at UCLA, UNLV, Oregon, played overseas for about seven years, and then enter the coaching ranks. Dallas, an assistant job at Oregon, where he went to high school, Boston, Houston, and now the Nuggets. And the most interesting thing is that uh the reporting is here that he’s moving to the front of the Nuggets bench. You know, a couple weeks ago, maybe a month ago, we had heard that maybe they would be like rotating assistant coaches in and out of that final front of the bench spot. Um from this at least, it seems like he might be that guy kind of the last front of the bench role. So definitely a bump up for him and an assistant coach we’re going to be talking a lot about next year it seems like. Yeah, something for us to see clarity on for sure. Exact the exact sort of delineation of responsibilities there on the bench and and how it shakes out. But you have to like the recent experience being a part of the adoka bench. I mean, look, Adoka has had some he’s been in some headlines and not all of them good, but the on the court results are there as a coach, a guy who uh who understands, you know, what it takes to sort of win in the regular season at least, and has has really put together some good regular season campaigns. He and his staffs resp his staffs respectively. So, Mike Moser, a little bit of experience there. A little I’m sorry, a little bit of great experience, I should say. and yeah, played a little bit at Oregon as the chat was just inquiring into uh he was an all-American at the University of Nevada before he transferred to Oregon, but bolstering the staff and and this is something we’ve talked about with the other hires too, it felt a little overdue. You know, when you talk about new blood and new eyes in and on the organization, this was one kind of I think easy obvious way to do it was to get some new assistant coaches in here. And again, that’s not an intended slight at any individual on the bench, just it’s a new guy now with David Adelman uh building a staff and his vision a and maybe bringing in a fresh perspective on the players and the team’s identity. So, I’m really excited with the with the multiple hires they’ve made here to sort of shore up the assistant coaching staff and this bench. Excited to see how that manifests as we welcome in the long-haired silverhaired silver fox out of Mars. I think so. I think so. Hey guys, what a what a warm welcome. How are you, man? Uh any thoughts on the 34year-old? It’s another theme. Another younger assistant, but uh the the new assistant coach that might be at the front of the Nuggets bench. I don’t have any thoughts on him yet other than I’m a little surprised they added another guy. I didn’t know if they were going if they were going to add a front row assistant as it was reported. So, that part is a little bit surprising to me and unfortunately I don’t know yet. I mean, we had heard Mark Stein’s report and I had actually heard it as well that they were going to do this rotating front bench person and I don’t know if that changes this if this is an extra another one or if this is something a change of plans. Well, maybe he’s in the rotation. Maybe he’s part of the part of the frontto back rotation. He’s he’s one of those couple names in that. It is possible, but I don’t know much about him to be honest with you. And I that news dropped. I had a meeting, so I haven’t actually even been able to look, but um I’m kind of curious. A good point though that that you made there, Harrison, in the description that ultimately a lot of youth here on the bench, right, relative to the NBA, former players and and former players as well. Um so younger, inexperienced maybe in the positions they’re taking on, per se, some of them. Um, you know, David Adelman, not inexperienced as a coach, inexperienced certainly as a head coach. This is something new. Uh, but I think some some NBA experience, some locker room experience, which I I’m hopeful ends up being really valuable, you know. So, as we’ve talked about, Adelman can just kind of do what he would like to do, the larger picture sort of schematic things, and and guys who have been in NBA locker rooms are able to sort of keep their thumb on the pulse of of what is and isn’t working for the fellas. Yeah. Yeah. the the other news, um, another assistant coach, Chase Buford. I don’t know if you guys saw this as well. Um, he’s another guy the Nuggets add to their staff. All right. I did not see this actually. Former assistant for Kansas. Before that, he won a couple championships with the Sydney Kings in Australia. Was just in the G-League as well. Can we finally go to uh Australia now? Is this is this good? Is this our Is this our our gateway to Australia? This is our excuse to go down under down under. Yeah, maybe. Um but he seems like I don’t Maybe he’s in that frontto back rotation as well. I don’t know. Um but another guy who he played in college, did not play professionally, but a a younger guy as well, 36 years old. Also, Chase Chase Buford is the son of RC Buford, the CEO, former GM of the Spurs. Well, there you go. Yeah, it’s all I mean, here’s what I will say about this. This is this is the most important takeaway from all of this is that the Nuggets are pretty different this year, and it’s almost an underrated part of, you know, the whole story here is not only is it a new head coach, which we say, okay, that’s a big enough difference. Michael Malone, such a personality. David Adelman, very different one. And I think we all feel good more or less about that. Like, hey, it’s okay. But the assistants are also different. I mean, the one two assistants for sure, these guys sound front of bench, you know, that’s going to be more big voices, uh, voice changes. So, to me, and then obviously all the different personnel. I think it’s a meaningfully different team. And I don’t know if that means I think ultimately it could be a good thing. I mean, there’s a lot of question marks, but I also it does make you wonder if it means the Nuggets aren’t going to get off to as hot of a start. there more of a learning curve going into this year even if they’re not changing the offense and defense dramatically although they might but even still is there still just a difference in process that has to be uh adjusted to. Yeah, I think it’s a great question. It’s a really good question and you know from what we’ve heard a a posit a positive on that front is a lot of guys are in town and it seems like will be in town in terms of just the players and I got to think the coaches as well definitely prior to training camp which is the change from last season and you’re definitely going to need that with so many new faces on the court and so many new faces on the coaching staff as well. So, um, real quick on that point though, real on that point and this is a little like breaking news or I guess I don’t know, a little little uh windchime of sorts. They have been a lot of nuggets in town this summer and consistently in town and remember last year. This is one of the reasons I was so low on it and even obviously talking to people about why why is nobody here this summer. Pton Watson’s been around. Christian Brown’s been around. Jamal Murray has been in town all the time. He’s not always going into the gym. Veteran guys don’t always go. Aaron Gordon’s been around, but I don’t think going into the gym. Bruce Brown has been in the gym. Uh Deron Holmes has been in the gym. That’s a lot of guys that have been not just in Denver, but also in the gym working out together. Julian Strawther. Uh and on top of that, I also hear that some Nuggets players, including some high-profile ones, might be making an appearance at the Rico Hines runs next week. So, that would be an interesting one to see. I mean, you guys know the famous Rico Hines runs in LA, which players, there’s only so many times you get to play with actual NBA talent. Not that the games are the greatest, but I would not be surprised if we saw some clips next week of some Nuggets players at those runs. We’ve seen Pwatt there before. I I know he’s played in those games before, but you never have seen other, you know, Nuggets current teammates there. That’ll be awesome. I mean, we’ll get great footage of that, too. I’m sure there’s an there’s a certain refreshment, you know, air of refreshment right now, I think, in in in the digital streets of our digital neighborhoods as Nuggets fans. You can feel it. There’s uh I think new and different is good right now on paper for everyone at least before things get underway. And you just wonder to what extent the players feel that as well, you know, from all from all the changes without trying to to sort of further vilify anyone who’s out, just the totality of the change, the the fresh blood, the potential new looks, you know, are are is there a renewed vigor here? and and the way that I I think ultimately in the last two regular seasons, regardless of record, even when they won 57, it just felt like a little bit of that vigor was missing. Maybe they were just kind of going through the motions or waiting for something different and and and I I wonder if it looks different this time around. I think there’s a little bit of a momentum on that front and it’s just nice to see so many different players around. I wouldn’t be surprised next week, you know, I don’t know exactly who’s going to be there. Pton Watson from LA. You can say I think he’s likely. Uh Aaron Gordon, Jamal Murray, Cam Johnson, all guys that, you know, I’ve heard might be attending that that run. So, that’d be pretty uh we might get, you know, how it is in August, guys. We might get some clips of a pickup basketball game to talk about next week. Something that’s something. I mean, it would be great. Like, I know we’re joking a little bit, but to see Jamal and Cam Johnson and a like those guys on the court together at this point in the off season. Yeah. Um I mean that would be really cool. Like it would be really cool to see those guys building some early chemistry for sure. Yeah. I think it’s great. And the bigger point is a lot of guys in the gym and I think there’s just a good vibe around the team. I mean what does that mean on August 15th? Doesn’t mean a whole lot. But I’ll tell you what, it’s a lot better than nobody’s heard from anybody for two months. Totally. Totally. It’s a lot better than that. Guys are in the gym and working out and training together to some capacity. And that’s cool. It’s like you don’t know exactly what the tangible difference that it’s going to make on the court come October is going to be, but you can compare it to last year. You can compare it to just the gym being pretty dead aside from a couple young guys for most of last off season. Well, wasn’t that media day where Malone was asked about some players or something? He’s like, I don’t know. I haven’t seen them since, you know, a May or something. And it’s like, what? You haven’t seen them? Not the case. Did uh did so and so come back a better player? I don’t know. I haven’t seen Haven’t seen I guess we’ll see him practice today. So, a little bit different. Yeah. Um All right. Well, I guess I can seize control again here. Wind if you’d like. Yeah. I was going to give a quick um Serbia update and then we could hit a break and then get to the schedule. Serbia up 10779 on Czech Republic. Yoaz 12 4 and six. Bo, it’s been the Boddanovich game. 20 points. There you go, man. So, Serbia might be a buzzsaw, fellas. They really might be. Let’s go, Elimo. All right, let’s take a break. Make sure you throw us a like, hop in the Toyota chat, talk along with us, especially over this next topic, guys. I want to start, let’s get a little more schedule talk now that we’ve had a chance to really digest it. And now that we get to bring Wind in the king of the schedule. We know all we all know when schedule obsessed. We all know he hates Yokic and he’s I don’t know if you saw yesterday’s show, but we were uh debating who loves or who is highest on him. We determined you’re lowest. Yeah, I heard about that. Um look, like personally, and I just said this to vote earlier, personally, I know I’m highest, but because of one previous comment I made like four years ago, Yeah. I can’t blame the chat for thinking I might be the lowest. There you go. You know what? A good man. He stands by being the highest, but also admit, you know what? You see what you see. Uh let’s first talk about this. The Nuggets and the first 10 games because we know that their schedule gets tough right almost right after the the 10 game mark. I think it is important for our own sanity that the Nuggets get off to a good start just because we don’t want to get into a season where all of a sudden we’re having to ask the we’re all excited and you get into a point where you’re five and six and it’s like well hold on is it a bad coach? Is this a bad fit? Is Murray not back? You look at these first 10 games though very winnable vote. Let’s go line by line at Golden State. Maybe the hardest or second hardest game on the entire schedule. It’s opening night but at the same time I think this Nuggets team is good. Golden State. You know, we’ll see what happens. But that to me, it’s a tough one. Probably a loss. I’m gonna call it a loss without wanting to start to I feel very good about this Denver Nuggets team and even possibly the schedule you put in front of me. So, in the interest of trying to be fair, understand losses will come and trying to identify one. All the factors we just talked about, guys, right? A bunch of a a younger staff, a new team, possibly by the end, all for the better. But how about up front? Does it create a set of obstacles to be cleared against a team that at least on game one should be healthy in Golden State playing in front of their crowd? That’s a tough one. So without trying to be a bummer, I I’ll call this one a loss out of the gate. I think I mean I just think that’s fair. It’s it’s a tough one. They’re going to be underdogs, but I still if they win that game, if they lose it, especially if it’s a close game and they lose, you probably go like, “All right, tough game on the road.” They win that first one at Golden State. I feel like it would actually be a a hype train leaving the station because it’s a tough one and because it’s a meaningful one. And then you come home wind and you have Phoenix at home. We talked about this. We previewed it. It’s the best opener. Good enough team that and a a rivalry, but Denver should win that one. I think Saturday night’s going to be a party at Ball Arena. Yeah. To me, the Suns are just the perfect opening night team to have as your home opener, man. like the the Nuggets hate the Suns, we hate the Suns. And also, it’s just it’s a team that talentwise, continuitywise, like coaching wise, this this is the team you should out execute and just outplay. And so, it’s going to be a little bit of a test in that way as to like if they lose that home opener, we we’ll know the team is not like where they need to be and they they’ve still got a ways to go. You know, maybe it’s going to take more time to settle in than we thought it would, but that’s a that’s a home opener that should be about like, wow, look at the Denver Nuggets. They look awesome. And then you go at Minnesota right after that one. Look, Denver can’t keep losing to Minnesota. I agree. This is a game where they are going to be underdogs. Minnesota is going to be very tough. And I think you put this a loss on paper, but to me, these first three games, I think, are going to tell us a lot about the Nuggets. you know how like it’s going to set the stage because two of them are really tough. You have that home one and I look at this one and go I want Denver to win one of those first two road games. Either Golden State or Minnesota and preferably Minnesota just because it feels like when there’s a new season and a team has beat you two straight seasons every single game. When when that happens it’s like you have to break it right away. You can’t concede another one. So to me I actually look at this one and say that’s the game of the week for the Nuggets. I agree. And part of the reason why I wanted to sell you guys a loss out of the gate was so I could come back around and take this win here against Minnesota. I So I have this as a real kind of barometer. Yes. In the regular season and regular season barometers, perhaps faulty by nature, but at the top of my wish list for this campaign, and I would wager a lot of listeners as well, is a winning record against the Wolves in the head-to-head regular season matchup. And the Wolves have had they’ve developed an appetite for the Nuggets, fellas. And I I just want the Nuggets to kind of come in and shake that right out of the gate. And with this kind of refreshed roster, maybe can come a refreshed perspective on the rivalry. I get the Wolves have a personnel I they have a lot of pluses in their box and the personnel battle here against Denver and the way this that this matchup is shaken out, but it’s the mental edge that’s made it so tough to watch and the mental edge that I would like to see flipped this year. To me, it it tells me a lot about this team, how they approach that game. If you get bullied or if you get blown out to me, it’s like, man, what is going on with this team? They have some demons they’re going to have to really exercise over the course of the season. You come out and make a statement in that game, it’s like, “Hey, this is a different team. All bets are off. Everything’s broke. Everything’s over.” And then after that, guys, it it lightens up. You come back home and have New Orleans. That should be a win. Then on Friday, you go to Portland for a tournament game. That should be a win. You come back home and you have Sacramento and then Miami. And by the way, Sacramento on two days rest. And then Miami, both should be wins. And then you finish off with Golden State at home on Amazon Prime. And then Indiana at home on the second night of a back-to-back. I just look at this and I go, “Okay, my realistic prediction is either eight and two or seven and three.” Seven and three, good start. We’re happy. We’re happy with it. Eight and two, I think you’re feeling great. And if you can go nine and one or 10 and0, it sets up the entire season for the Denver Nuggets. Is Amazon paying you on the side? Amazon, baby. It’s on Amazon Prime. Yeah, you did slip that in. Well, it’s because it’s new. Are you guys I can’t believe you guys are not into this. You’re not excited for the fact that we have the I’m into a broadcast cuz I think about it a lot. The presentation of the game, the pageantry. We have two new broadcast partners this year. I’m very intrigued. I was into it until I saw that graphic that the league put out that was here’s how you watch games on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Saturday. That part does suck. I mean, for sure. Um I feel like I’m going to hate it, but maybe that’s just me getting old. And here’s the thing. I I hate the idea that you have to pay for all these things and it’s complic I hate that part a lot. But I am excited for a new presentation because I’ve hated the presentation of the NBA for a long time. I mean, you’re right about that. Yeah, you’re right about that for sure. My ex-girlfriend has prime, so it’s fine. But you guys agree with me though that eight and two seems very doable. Seven and three feels like par. Eight and two feels do doable. And if you go nine and one or 10 and0, I just think the Nuggets are are are good. You know what I It’s like it’s it’s weird to say 1/8 of the season would make that big of a difference, but to me nine and one or 10 and0 sets you up to trip a couple times and you’re fine. You’re off to such a good start. Yeah, I I do feel like really regardless of how they do in these first 10 games, a lot of it could be painted on what they do against Minnesota in the third game of the season. you know, like if they lose that game but still start seven and three, I feel like we’re going to have some vibes of, oh, or they’re really good, but are they going to beat the elite teams? Kind of like we thought last year, right? If they start seven and three and they beat that Minnesota game, we’re back. They do have an opportunity with those four games at home to I think just kind of set the tone for the fan base a little bit. You know who that just sort of I mean if if those games are really fun to be at live and the Nuggets look great and they’re rocking in all of them just an upfront kind of PSA. Hey, it’s it’s different. If you thought it was stale, it’s not. It’s not what it was and and you should be coming around this year. They also have a chance to start one, two, three, four, five, six and0 at home. Maybe, you know, the six home games here are like the easiest ones. I would love that to be a thing this year that the Nuggets get off to a really good home start and just homec court advantage, man. Make it a thing. Yeah, it’s they the that they’ve lost it is an underrated storyline. I mean, it’s a hard thing to dig into, right? like in terms of cause trying to find any any any direct causes as to why they’re not as good at home. But when they were dominant in the Yokicera, they were a dominant team in ball arena and getting back to that would be another again kind of regular season barometer little tell here that that maybe this is heading in the direction we hope it is. Now we have to ask the headline question today which is the Nuggets just can’t get a 10ame winning streak. Here’s the first thing about this. I think this Nuggets, one of my bold predictions for this year is I think this will be the most consistent Nuggets team of the Yokic era because I think they have guys that are more repeatable. I mean, Michael Porter for all, as much as we love him, volatile in some ways. You know, he can score a ton of points, can score a none. Jamal Murray, same thing, but maybe they need him a little bit less. Cam Johnson, Christian Brown, Aaron Gordon, I think that’s more consistency. A deep bench, that means hopefully fewer games where the bench blows a 14-point lead in the first half. I think the Nuggets have the best chance of the Yokera to get a 10-game winning streak before I even look at the schedule. Do you agree with that wind? Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. Because what do you need most to win a 10 game to win 10 games in a row? You probably need depth. Yeah. I mean, because you’re going all like those to win 10 games in a row is hard. Not a lot of teams do it every season. The Nuggets have obviously not done it in the yogic era. crazy. And like really regardless of what opponent you know you’re playing, once you get up to six, seven, eight, nine wins in a row, there’s going to be fatigue that sets in. Like there there just is. And you need a bench to be relied on. And the fact that there’s a pathway this season to where you don’t have to play Yoke as many minutes, you don’t have to play Jamal Murray as many minutes, that inherently gives you a better chance to win 10 games in a row. And the fact that you can replace those players with quality bench guys like and you can form some lineups out there and some staggers and like some bench units that can really likely outscore the other team. Like it’s just a luxury the Nuggets have that they did not have last year or the year before. So to get a 10-ame win streak I I think you need to be deep. Like that’s the easiest way to do it. Obviously, they could have done it last year and they weren’t deep, but um I I just think that’s going to help them get there this year. My only nitpick on the win strength win streak thing is this is one of those one of those things I perhaps unfairly pin on Jamal Murray a little bit. I feel like uh a second option just sort of at some point in the 10 games where your best player in the world is something less than Hercules. You just want to consistently know that you have a second guy, right, that can carry the team in in case of not emergency, but just something slower from Yoke. So, I mean, maybe they’ll get there. Uh, but to me, it’s it’s one of those Murray regular season symptoms. So, I think the opening schedule of the season is one of the better chances for a 10 game. If you just look at like how it flows, it’s not great, but it’s there. If you beat Golden State, you beat Minnesota. Every other game you should be favored in. So, all right, that’s not a terrible stretch. I don’t think there’s a 10-ame win streak after that, you know, for the next month. It’s really brutal. They’re on the road a lot. I And they’re really on the road all the way until January 9th. And here’s where I think another win streak might come. You’re at home for Atlanta and Milwaukee. Two very winnable games. You should win both. Then you’re on the road at New Orleans at Dallas. that Dallas one is the second night of a backto-back. I think that’s a tough tough game, but Dallas isn’t that good. They’re going to struggle to score. You know, I think I think that’s a very winnable game. So, you’re at 4-0. You come home for a three-game home stand and you get Washington, Charlotte, and then finish with the Lakers. You get a night of rest. So, it’s not nothing crazy. All three of those you should be favored in. So, now you’re up to seven wins. And then you go on the road at Washington, at Milwaukee. Both of those should be Ser Serbian Heritage Night. than at mil then at Memphis as your last one. I look at that and say Denver is likely favored in every single one of those games with the exception of at Milwaukee and maybe at Dallas. Denver should be favored and that would give you a 10-ame win streak. But even if you’re an underdog at Dallas at Milwaukee, I don’t think you’re like more than a three-point underdog. Yeah, I I think that’s a that’s a good spot for it to be. Can I give you a place where I think a 10ame win streak might come as well? There’s one more I had. So, let’s see if it’s the same spot. Is it at the very end of the season? The very end. Yes, it is. So, did you guys see that from March 1st through the end of the year, they play the Jazz three times? It’s so dumb. And they play the Spurs three times. It doesn’t make sense. And the Blazers twice and the 76ers and the Raptors. The end of this schedule, the end of the season schedule for the Nuggets is so easy that I feel like they might be able to get it while resting, guys. Like because ideally how this Nugget season goes is how the 2023 season went. I mean that’s ideally how every season would go. You know, you can maybe get up to the one seed or get up to the two seed and have some ability down the stretch to rest your key guys. Maybe that will happen this year, but this schedule is so light late in the year. Utah three times in the last uh like 13 14 games of the season. the Spurs three times, Philly, Toronto, Portland, Mol Phoenix again. Like all these teams are going to be tanking by then. I Hey man, this would be the best way. There’s a chance it happens at the end of the season. It would be phenomenal for you to for the team to be hot like that. And especially if they’re not pushing, if it’s just like they’re they’re able to get a couple of these gimmies, it would be so great to go into the playoffs and be like, “Yeah, Denver’s on a 10-ame winning streak going into the playoffs. This is great. They they’re peaking.” Uh let us know in the comments what you think. You’ve looked at the schedule. you’ve digested it and you just know the team. Are they getting a 10-ame winning streak finally for the first time of the Yoker? Is it going to happen this year? Let us know. On the other side, I want to talk about the national television games and where Denver fits in the pecking order of popular teams in the NBA. Everybody throw us a like. Hop in the chat. I’m going to piss off all Nuggets fans. And this actually made me mad earlier. I’ll see if it makes everyone else mad. The Denver Nuggets have 26 nationally televised games this season. If you count ABC, NBC, Peacock, ESPN, and Amazon Prime, that’s what I consider national. Those are the prestige games. They have 26, which is good for seventh most in the NBA this year. There you see the breakdown. Look at that graphic. Beautiful uh graphic there, Dion. There’s the breakdown by uh outlet. 26 isn’t bad. That’s a That’s a good amount. We remember the days there were fewer, but that ranks seventh most in the NBA. There are seven teams that have been deemed more nationally sellable than the Denver Nuggets. First and foremost, I hope those are eight Tim Leggler games we’re looking at with ESPN. Or that could be a long that could be a long one. um that seven is too low and I I’m actually always ready just it’s Denver. So you take you take what what you think they maybe deserve in a vacuum and then bump them down a couple notches probably just on how it’s gone historically. Seven still feels too low to me. I I mean I think this is one of the five best teams in the league with the best player in the league. And I mean you want to do another a redo on the entertainment scale Harrison? I’ll give you a shot. I think this team’s going to be really fun to watch with Yokic at the helm. So, seven is too low in my opinion. Eight ESPN games. Tim Muggler, please, please, please, man. I hope they’re yours. It’s so true. Well, hold on because real quick, Wind, I’m going to tell you the teams that beat Denver in in them. Number one, the Los Angeles Lakers. They have 34. So, they have eight more. Not a surprise. The Lakers always have it. And they got Luca now. Golden State Warriors have 34. They really are like holding on, man. The league is holding on to the the stories they can tell. The Warriors, I know if you’re thinking about teams that the league wants to be good this season. Lakers Warriors maybe one two. I told Dline this, but the Warriors at this point, they remind me of, you know, it’s finally your turn to be a senior in high school. And then the kids that graduated above you, but they’re still kind of hanging around all the spots. You’re like, you’re at the pizzeria. Yeah. You’re like, you’re at the party. Like they can’t graduate. Yeah. You had a dynasty in this town. But I get it. Uh but you know, you graduated. Get out of here. So then you would get another tie. There’s four teams with 34. The next one, the New York Knicks. Okay. Somebody in the East had to be on. Like they have the early game and the night game. Somebody there’s nobody in the East that they can highlight. So the Knicks, it makes a little bit of sense. And then the Thunder. And look, they’re the champs. I get it. I They are they leave it there. You can leave it there. I mean like they deserve it. They won the title. They deserve it. I just feel like the the league has really tried to sell us on this Thunder team being compelling and nobody seems to be buying. But good luck. I mean they’re just good though. Like that’s good. They just aren’t that good. Yeah. And the Lakers and Warriors. But um All right. They’re compelling. Here’s where it gets interesting. The Timberwolves have 28. The Minnesota Timberwolves have leapfrogged the Denver Nuggets in relevance according to the national television games. Well, if we’re talking about teams the league wants to be good, Minnesota’s probably in the top three. Why? Anthony Edwards, we’ve been trying to crown Anthony Edwards every year for the last three years and he can’t make the finals. They’re a good team, man. I mean, what can I say? They’re a good team and Anthony Edwards is exciting, but it does feel a little weird that they are above. I know they’ve beaten Denver in the playoff, but also it’s like but it’s also like they haven’t won, right? Yeah. And you know the Nuggets beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat beat the wolves in the playoffs too. It’s a little known fact gets overlooked sometimes. It just it doesn’t we don’t remember it as much because they went on to win a title. So it takes like a lower That’s right. takes like a lower place in our our brains. Um it is it does feel like if I had to pick between those two markets, you would want Jokic. Well, I don’t You know, I get what Win’s saying. Anthony Edwards just kind of It hurts though. This is the one that hurt. This one hurts a little. And then the last one ahead of the Denver Nuggets is the Houston Rockets. You get Kevin Durant. I just felt like both of those teams should have been with Denver, not above Denver. I agree. I agree with this. Yeah. So, so there you go. That’s the That’s the breakdown there that had me uh just stuck in my craw. I see something that Boston has like 20 something national TV games. I’m telling you, who would you pick in the East? You have to have an early game on the But it can’t be Boston though. Why not? Who would it be? The whole world is I’m not kidding when I say this. Go through the list. You’ve got the Knicks. The Cavs aren’t exactly a huge draw even though they’re a good team, but okay. The Cavs. Yeah, the Knicks and the Cavs. Those are the only two teams to really pick. They only play each other four times. you have to have a bunch of other nationally televised games. You could you could get really in on the Hawks off season, but I mean that yeah, you know, Orlando Magic are going to be good. I don’t think that they’re a big enough draw yet. You know, I mean, they’re a little bit like the Thunder, but before they’ve done anything, there’s just there’s not big names. Indiana’s going to have a lull of a year. You know, Detroit, there’s just not that many teams to pick from in the East. It’s so we talk about this every year, so we almost feels like we’re just running it back. But this year is even more egregious in terms of both talented teams and intrigue. It’s all in the West. The East is just this afterthought this year. Well, the East is also just I’m I didn’t even see how many games the 76ers got. National TV, it from this discussion, it doesn’t seem like it was a lot. I guess the the league doesn’t want to leave that up to chance this year. 76ers national TV games, especially in the second half of the season. But like that that should be the team. That that should be it. But it’s just not. All right, we’re going to fast forward now because you guys for some reason for some reason I don’t understand are not quite as into this broadcast as I am. All these new guys, NBC, we still have ESPN, we have NBC, we have Amazon, Peacock, which is part of NBC. And so we’re going to snake draft. And what we’re gonna do is with all these new analysts, I put it in the chat, so hopefully you guys have the doc. We’re gonna snake draft the perfect broadcast team. Do you have this ready to go, Dion? Do you have the doc that you can like second screen on here or pull it up? See if you could figure that one out. Here are the rules. You have to pick two playbyplay uh people and three color commentarys. Oh man, Dion got the memo from uh uh Kale to never always put me last. I always get the last. Wait, wait. So So here’s the thing. Picking two playby-play guys, just to be clear, you’re picking two playby-play guys and three uh uh color commentary analysts. Okay. Okay. And you can do it in any order you want. So like this is just you can’t pick more than that. And and you can do it play by play first, color first, it doesn’t matter. You just have to pick. and we’re going to build from the suite of people that are going to be calling the games across all the networks. So, what do you do? And just uh a peak behind the curtain, you supplied us with our um our potential draft board. Well, I just put the raw I just put the raw names in there. I did not I have my own board. Right. Right. But we have the names we can pick from here. Correct. All right. Vote. Who is your first pick? I’m going with the guy that I was least professional with when I met at at Ball Arena because I was so excited to meet him. I was just so excited to meet him. Kevin Harland, the absolute goat. Come on. Oh, heck yeah. Kevin Harland. That’s a good pick, man. I stopped. I stopped him. I said, “Hey, man. I just got to shake your hand. I just think you’re so good at this.” And I want to shake your hand. I want to shake your hand. And he talks. Kevin Harland talks, you know, the way you’d hope Kevin Harland would talk. So, that was a good one. All right. That’s a good pick, man. He’s really uh I think he’s iconic. A little vanilla, you know, like a little first pick. It’s you know, you went with Tim Duncan, but okay. Tim Duncan’s a great pick. I mean, yeah, I it’s a good pick. I think it’s the wrong pick, though. Vote. I think it’s the wrong pick. I I pick with my with my heart. Um, in my opinion, looking at the board here, there like color commentator is the the weaker uh category. I I just don’t think there’s a lot of color commentators. There’s one good one. It’s Tim Legler. Oh, come on. Wind legs is gonna see this. He’s gonna think I didn’t pick him. Well, I mean, he can see the draft order. I’m second. You’re third. Um, I was just looking at the color commentators available that are doing national games. There was only one I can look at and say, I like this guy. It’s Tim Leggler. Tim Leggler is the goat color analyst right now. He’s the best on TV broadcaster. I think that talks about the NBA, you know, studio, at the game, whatever, whatever title you want to sign to him. He is the best at breaking down the game live. Tim Leer, easy. He would have been my number one pick. Easy first pick for me in terms of national guys. Oh man, he really is. I know we’re biased, but he is so freaking good, man. I always love when he’s on the call. It’s a great argument. does his work. And I actually even agree with Win that I think the color commentary is the more shallow draft here, right? So taking it with your first pick is is important here. Smart. I have a swerve here. I I’m a reach in the draft for my first pick. Now that legs is gone. I thought I could get legs. Why not? I thought you thought you could get legs third. Come on. I thought Dion was gonna hook it up. Put me as the first pick to try to help me out. Uh I’m gonna go with Brian Scallabbrini. I like I actually really like him. I think he’s incredible. Huge Jokic fan. Huge Jokic fan. And he is now on I think Amazon. He’ll be doing that. So, I’m going with Scal. Wow. Uh I I I do I I do like Scal. He’s great, man. From from the you know the Nugget Celtics games that he has done. Dev had a good interview with him at summer league or at the All-Star game last year. Um the fact that he is such a big Jokic appreciator that he’s in good graces with us. I I have enjoyed him on a couple Nuggets Celtics games I’ve heard him do. Next one I’m going to go. Man, this is so tough because really it’s kind of like you could take a pick of the next color commentary guys and of the next playbyplay guys. There’s a handful I like. I think I’m gonna go Oh man, this is so tough. I think I’m gonna go with Jay Bis. Adam, what are you doing, man? Someone take the keys away from Adam, bro. I like Jay Bis. I think he does a good job. You know what? I do too, man. I got screwed with the third pick. Tipler was the easy pick for me. so hard. This is This is an all time. What What did you get in that one draft? 6%. That’s so bad. Oh, wait. I have tears in my eyes. Me, too. That was all an all time back to back. Jay Bill is not even on my board. Oh, look. He’s good. Are you serious? He’s great. Um, I’m taking Yic Appreciators. Okay. Okay. Um, I’m up. And I I will say Kevin Harland was the number one playby-play guy on on my board. I think he’s the best. He really is. Um, I’m gonna go Mike Breen. I’m gonna go Mike Breen. Um, Mike Breen. Just consistent, reliable. You know, he’s not going to uh tense up in a big game, in a big moment. got some great signature calls. So, um I I’ll go Mike Breen. Yeah, I think Breen he’s obviously I think the most popular. He’s ESPN’s number one guy. He’s probably the most known Yeah. Just solid. You know, he’s not going to um he’s not going to spice it up really, which I would which I would like, but you know, he’s just solid and dependable. All right, I am going to Wind made such a good point that I feel like I have to double down on the playby-play guys because I think there are three playbyplay. Yep, there’s one more. I’m a huge fan. And this is a Nor Eastern pick. I don’t know if it if it’s if it if it’s good out here, too. I Eagle. I think I really I think he’s incredible. So, I’m going to put I Eagle on the board. That’s I by the way, Dion. and then Eagle. Um, and yeah, I just think he’s awesome. So, I’m going to go I’m going to I’m going to make sure Honestly, you have you have two phenomenal playby-play guys, man. But as as I think about Win’s argument and I take a look at what’s left, man, getting legs was really smart. There’s no good color people really. I know the I mean, there are a lot of these guys. That’s why That’s why I went where I went. There’s only ones I like. There’s a lot of guys you think could be good, but you just don’t know. You don’t know. There are some mysteries. You don’t know. I’m gonna bet on I’m going to bet on my playby-play guys getting the best out of a Raw prospect here. I’ll take Dwayne Wade. I’ll take It’s a good It’s a good upside pick. It’s a good pick. I don’t know. I don’t know, man. And I don’t think he’s ready yet, but I think a season alongside these two guys. You know, one he has one of my least favorite calls of ever of all time. What was it? Pass. All right. Who’s is it? Wind. It’s Dwayne Wade. D. Okay. Um, so yeah. Okay. I’m up. Um, color like like we’ve all been saying, color guys is really it’s a weak pool. Um, so I could go another playbyplay guy, but the the rest of them kind of seem about equal. Um, I’m gonna go with an upside play as well. Actually, I I got my guy I’m going with a lot of people don’t like him. Uh oh. No, I don’t I don’t mind him on uh a color on commentary. I’m going um Wait, is this Austin Rivers? Is this Austin Rivers or Doc Rivers? It’s Austin Rivers. Okay, it’s Austin Rivers. Yeah, I’m going Austin Rivers. He’s an interesting one. This is like a new one. We don’t know quite how it’s going to be, but I do find him compelling. I like him on his podcast. Um, just from talking to him when he was around the Nuggets, I like his perspective on the league and players. I think Austin Rivers is going to be good. Uh, and I don’t think he’s afraid to say some just some questionable stuff as well. That will get the conversation going. So, um, I I’ll take Austin Rivers. That’s my uh that’s my buy low guy. I I see a ceiling there. Yeah, I I I like him a lot, especially podcast interviews, type stuff like that. I don’t know how he’ll be like in a game broadcast. We’ll see. But I think it’s a good like flyer. All right, I got to round out with some staples here. I’m going to go with Mike Tico. I like Mike Tico. I think he’s very solid. He makes things feel big and important. So, I think Tariq is going to be my first play-by-play guy. And I’m going to follow it up with Noah Eagle Eagle son, who I think is also really good. does a great job. Shout out to Peacock and NBC. They have two good ones. I took both of them. So, there you go. No free ads though. [Laughter] Mike Trico and Noah Eagle. Okay. Uh, okay. Jay Bilis is off the board, so I can’t pick. So, so is Scout. So is Scout. Scout is great. I’m telling you, you guys are going to love Scal. You’re gonna be I actually do like Scout. He’s phenomenal. He’s funny. Loves Yic. Um, I’ll take another color guy here. I’m gonna take um Jamal Crawford. He could be good. I find Jamal Crawford as a compelling person, but I feel like he’s kind of boring. Like he he couches it too much. Yeah, I feel like he had a couple good moments last season. Yeah. Um where you could you could see the potential there. And I agree. He He was a little boring at times, but um I think he could be good. I’m I’m buying some stock in him. Okay. All right. I am going to go with once of video game commentary fame. How about Brent Barry? Let’s do a little Brent Barry resurgence. Yeah. Some some people hated him. I thought Bones was really good when he was on the call. I was a Go ahead. I think people hate him because John Barry was horrible and that’s what they remember. The first Bones. You’re right. Brent Bones Barry. Let’s do it. Yeah. I’ll put And you get one more pick. I do. Okay. One more color. It has to be color though. You get two play. And Crawford’s off the board. Crawford’s off. I am going to take I’ve never heard Corey Alexander do it before, but let’s try it. You know what? You know what he’s not going to do? He’s not going to lose me votes the way a handful of these people. That’s so That’s a good pick. That’s such a good call. Not going to lie, I saw him on the board and I I don’t know if I’ve heard him do a game. I never have, but I could see it. Cory Alexander is your last pick. Oh, we only have a fourperson thing here. All right. Well, we’ll just add him here in post. What about you, Wind? Uh my I gotta go with uh playbyplay for my last one. Um, I’m gonna go Ryan Rico. Solid. He’s kind of similar to, you know, Iron Eagle. I feel like just doesn’t have the uh the cache, but he does a lot of WNBA games. I think he’s good. I think he really like gets into it, too. Like, he’s has a lot of emotion in his calls. Yeah. Um, it was for me it was either him or uh Dave Pash. I wasn’t gonna take Dave P. They are kind of similar though. They’re like very similar. They’re kind of Dave Dave Dave Pash a lot of times sounds like he hates his job though. He see Dave Pash was at his best with Bill Walton. Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah. You need a Bill Walton next to him. So my last pick I’m going to take Steve Nash. I’m taking a rookie as well. Nash is another guy who I don’t know if he’ll be good. He has kind of like a monotone way of talking, but he is really insightful and really interesting. So, there’s a chance he really comes out of him, especially if he gets the right pairing. I’m curious how he does. Uh, not taken. We did not take guys like Carmelo Anthony. I didn’t even see him on the board. Oh, maybe I didn’t add him to the list on accident. Uh, Dell Curry, Stan Van Gundy, Candace Parker, Reggie Miller, Grant Hill, Derek Fischer, Brad Dohy, Doris Burke, Monica McNut, Bob Meyers, or Richard Jefferson not taken. Mark Jones also not taken on the playback. I could have done Grant Hill. I could have done Grant Hill. Grant Hill same I said with Jamal Crawford, he’s so interesting and has insight, but I feel like he h he just like plays it safe. You know, he’ll never take a risk with with any of it. So, um you know what I found from just reading the chat while we did this is that everybody has wildly different perspectives on who they think is the best and worst because the chat has thrown out some names where I’m like really? Uh people say Katy Win, she’s on the altitude broadcast. This is just the national broadcast from this season. So, it’s not like people of years past. It’s just from this season trying to trying to see who gets it. JK Wallace chiming in and saying, “I always liked Chris Weber.” There’s no way, man. Like, there’s no way you actually liked Chris. I loved Chris Weber when he was with Gary Payeyton on the postgame show, but you cannot put him on a broadcast. I don’t think he was good in the broadcast. Oh, I never saw that. I’m guessing that was TNT. It was NBA TV, man. And when him and Gary Payton, they almost had a KG and Paul Pierce dynamic to it where like they they just could like get going where it was so funny. From what I Chris Weber was the the worst announcer like he was so bad. He was bad on bad. Yeah, he was really bad on it. Candace Parker could Yeah, Candace Parker sometimes is she’s she’s decent in studio. I don’t know if I’ve heard her do a game, but she’s good in studio. Some of these people are a lot better in studio I think than I mean it’s like a completely different skill set you know completely different world um I mean just I I have like a 1% feel for this from doing the watch alongs a little bit but commentating a game is tough it’s it’s really tough especi doing color might be harder than doing playbyplay you think just because playbyplay at least you know what to say you’re just talking about what’s happening on the color, you have to like time it right and come in and talk for long enough but not too long and just everything you say, you know, it has to mean something. So, I I just think playbyplay you at least know a baseline or you at least have a structure of what to say, just what’s happening in the game. Yeah. I think for me, color would be easier. I mean, I think both of them would be really, really tough, but color for me, I feel like I can always say something about anything. Yeah. unsurprising. Well, that yeah, that skill is something we developed over the years. We got any super chats here today, Dion? What are we What are the people saying in the chat today? Logan Wright, OKC’s strategy is to ignore Aaron Gordon and especially Christian Brown on the perimeter. How important is Christian Brown’s three-point volume increasing this year? How many threes should he get up per game so he’s ready for the playoffs? I think this is a good question and I don’t even think that he can answer that in the regular season because I don’t think it’s about volume. Um, I think the only thing we could say is even in the regular season with the improved numbers, it never felt consistent the way that you would want. And I just think he needs to be a guy that looks like the shot is more confident and consistent. Yeah. What was so interesting last year was he shot three three-point attempts per game in the regular season. Shot 40%. And then in the playoffs, five three-point attempts per game. Like five a game, that was a big number for Christian Brown. That was a big jump. Two more threes per game. And of course, he went down to 30%. So, the volume will probably go up again in the playoffs, I would guess. And he’s just got to be ready for that. Yeah, I would agree. All right, what else are we looking at? Anything else? Yeah, we got two more here. 55 555ish. I had an epiphany this week, and I know exactly what the goal will be this season. completely different than what I said last week and it’s crazier than last season’s goal of 555 Z minutes. Oh, so this is a tease. Okay. All right. It’s a tease. I not an announcement for next week on Friday. We’ll have to have him reveal. Yeah, we’ll have to have another Die Hard Colin show on next Friday. The Boy’s Dad. And the Boy’s dad. It would be much more entertaining to snake draft a worse national broadcast team. That’d be an easier snake draft. Yeah, Richard Jefferson is so polarizing. It’s funny that so many people in the comments were like, “You gotta take him. You gotta take him.” He, to me, he’s my number one least favorite. And part of this two year, you go back three years ago, Doris Burke’s Q score was really high. I think over the last handful of years, pretty much anyone on that ESPN broadcast is like kind of suffered from whatever the the the rising product is, you know, by putting all those people together. it just isn’t working for people, you know, and so I wonder if they almost all sort of suffer from whatever the aggregate is. Dell Curry was is pretty good. He got elevated. They were doing the the Hornets broadcast. He got elevated along with his partner. So they that was one of the better broadcast. A guy I like. Oh, I would have taken that guy, the Hornets playby-play guy. Yeah, his name. Oh, Eric Collins. He just be screaming. He’d be screaming all the time. Sometimes you’ll catch a random college football game with him on a Saturday afternoon. That’s a good time. I do like that. Yeah, you’re right. He does have that energy that it’s so good, man. I should take him. All right, everybody. Thanks for tuning in. We hope you guys have a fantastic weekend. Get away. Get out into the mountains or something. Uh, enjoy yourself. Hit the like button on the way out. Later. [Music] [Applause] Like the mayor.

8 ESPN games is more disrespectful than the incredibly disrespectful # of tv games.
Austin has the wildest basketball takes in these youtube streets bar nun
Jamal Crawford and Reggie together on the call together is mute button worthy.
Adam’s team is boof as fuck. Scal carrying a lot there.
Doesn’t Dave Pasch call the games with legler?
Grant Hill is a tough listen.
Monica McNutt is gonna kill it
Denver needs to try taking the regular season seriously for once. Magics Lakers, Birds Celtics, Jordan's Bulls and Currys Warriors squads were all winning 60+ games. They were dominant. I also want to see 2 or 3 10 game win streaks… Denver needs a champion/dynastic mind set and taking games seriously is important and history proves that. Plus finishing 2nd or 3rd means you have to play both Houston and OKC…. getting a 1 sees means you only play one…. or neither.
Houston, Minnesota and OKC are in the same time zone as Chicago and Milwaukee. Why can’t they get the early games? Does Central Time Zone not count?
I don't see why you guys still fear Minnesota. They are thinner, smaller and worst version of them last year. Denver dismantles with the revamped roster.
The volume difference between the intro music and the microphones is getting really intense. I have to drop the volume of the intro and then crank it back up when they start talking. This happens in the studio too.
You think if Murray comes out sub par… you think nugs consider trading him?
I just dk who would take on his contract
No WAY they lose to GS in that first game. Only way is if Denver is playing against the refs as well. Otherwise, if it’s fairly called Denver is a much better team.
Ill go with Marv Albert and Bob Costas from old school nbc
Man Wind's mic is soooo quiet. I'm too hard of hearing for this lmao
