Another Move Coming? MAJOR Miami Heat Rumors After The Haywood Highsmith Trade

Welcome to the heat report by chat sports. I am Nick Roloff and this video is coming a day after the Haywood Highmith trade and I just believe that there is likely another move coming for the Miami Heat and I wanted to talk about what that move could be. But before we get into that, in case people are unaware, I do want to recap the Highmith trade and why Miami may have done this deal. Now, they traded Haywood Highmith to the Brooklyn Nets. what the trade details were were the Heat get a 2026 second round pick, but it is heavily protected and it’s protected picks 31 through 55. What does that mean? It means the Nets would have to be one of the five best teams in the NBA this season for that second round pick to convey to Miami. So, the Heat will not be getting a second round pick from the Brooklyn Nets at all. Miami had to attach an unprotected 2032 second round pick to Haywood Highmith to get rid of him. Highmith was going into the last year of his deal. He was on an expiring $5.6 million contract. Since Miami took no salary in on this deal, they got underneath the luxury tax. They were $1.4 million above at the start. They are now exactly $4 million underneath the luxury tax. So they will not be hit with the repeaters tax. And now they also have two open roster spots. They have 13 standard deals. You’re allowed to give out 15. So that is where things stand right now. Highmith is no longer on the team. The Heat had to attach a pick to get rid of them. They basically get absolutely no pick in return. But they did save themselves a lot of money by getting underneath the luxury tax by $4 million. And before we actually do move on to what the next move could be, I want to hit that thumbs up icon and like the video to show Highmith some love. Man, this guy was an undrafted guy coming out of Wheeling University. Just no business being in the NBA, but he gave Miami great minutes in a couple playoff runs. He’s been one of the best 3 and D wing guys off the bench on this Heat roster for the past couple of years. So like the video to show Highmith some love. I did not want to trade him unless the Heat were getting something in return. This is nothing. So, this really drives me up a wall. Um, but either way, I want to hit that like button to show Heismith some love. Would appreciate you guys doing that with me as well. All right, but before we actually do get into what could be coming next, I want to just quickly and try I will try briefly mention how bad of a trade this was. I can’t fathom the Miami Heat’s inability to manage their assets in a proper way. Gabe Vincent left for nothing. Duncan Robinson left for basically Simone Fonteio, not very much. Caleb Martin left for nothing. Max Streus left for pretty much nothing. Like the Heat have time after time after time, let their solid cheap young rotation players, although they were all UDFAS in the past, leave for nothing in return. I would be able to guarantee, and I know some of you might say in the comment section that I can’t guarantee it. I don’t care. I will. that if Miami waited to trade Haywood Highmith at the trade deadline in early February, they would be able to get multiple second round picks from a contending team without having to take money back. So, the same issue that Miami faced now, but wanted to get underneath the luxury tax, they could have solved that in February by trading him at the deadline, but they probably could have recouped multiple picks instead of having to attach one. I just do not understand why Miami felt the necessary or the need to do that. It doesn’t make any sense to me. Like, why would they do that? I’m sorry. It’s bad asset management. It just shows that this front office is not with the times. They don’t value second round picks and it’s a little bit frustrating and I’m kind of sick of it. We need new blood. We need more thinking in this front office. All right, let’s actually get to what moves could be coming next here because with Miami having 13 standard contracts, they have two available to give out with them being under $4 million from the luxury tax. Now, Miami, I’m pretty sure, could technically sign two vetmin guys because if I’m not mistaken, a vetmin contract for a like older veteran could actually only count $1.9 million in cap space. If I’m wrong, please correct me, but I’m pretty sure the new CBA that incentivizes signing older veterans. So like a guy like Alec Burks who was with this roster last year could be signed to a contract vetmin one year 2.3 but the cap hits only 1.9 allowing Miami to potentially sign two veteran guys like that at $3.8 million in total fill out 15 standard contracts and stay underneath the luxury tax. So let me know if I’m wrong on that, but that is certainly an option for Miami. And I would keep Alec Burks potentially on the radar for Miami. I know the Heat need big men and we’ll talk about some in this show, but Burks was a player that wanted to return to Miami. He made that abundantly clear after the deadline or after the season concluded. And with him still being a free agent, that could absolutely be something Miami spins the block on and resigns Burks, a absolute professional who shot extremely efficient from three this past year for Miami above 40%. I would be very happy with bringing Alec Burks back. But the truth is we got to go out and grab a big man. Like this front court is so weak. I’m looking at um players like Prea Chua. I’m looking at players like Trey Lyles. But when you think of what the Heat have on this roster, it’s Bam and Abio and it’s KL Wear. Nicole Yoic is a four. So, is Miami really gonna run with Bam Wear and then Yoic as their third guy and just be a small ball big man? I don’t think that’s the best idea. I would like to get a legit third center for this Miami Heat roster in that rotation. And before I break down some players more in depth here, make sure you do subscribe to the channel because if the Heat do make another move, which they will eventually, we will have you covered with a video. So, subscribe today. There’s a lot of solid big men out there. I suppose um maybe a lot is a bad way to put it, but I mentioned Trey Lyles. I mentioned Precious Acha. Those are the two players that I think if Miami signed a big man would be the most likely. I would not be mad at an AUA reunion whatsoever. I mentioned this on yesterday’s video. Not going to be a player that you can expect big rotation minutes from in like an NBA playoff series when you tighten that rotation up to like seven, eight, maybe nine guys. But during the regular season when players are banked up, 82 game year, Achua’s energy and relentless rebounding ability would be valued at a very high rate. Miami obviously liked him a lot coming out of college when they drafted him with the 20th overall pick in 2020. And even though he only spent one year in Miami trading the Kyle Lowry signing trade, I think it would be a really cool story to potentially have a Chua return to the 305 and ultimately become a productive player for this organization, which is the reason why they drafted him five years ago. So Aua would absolutely be my number one player Miami should sign in this front court. I mentioned Trey Lyles. The 30-year-old is a small ball five, but he can play it. I would certainly trust him playing the five a little bit more than a Nicoolola Yoic because he is a better rebounder and he’s more physical on the interior. Also a guy that can space it and hit a shot from beyond the arc if left open. He’s someone that I think would qualify for that vet min like exception where it’s a $2.3 million contract, but it’s a $ 1.9 million cap hit. So, like I mentioned, you can prove me wrong if I am wrong, but the Heat with two roster spots open could go out and sign Alec Burks back, sign Trey Lyles, and fill out their standard contract roster, but stay underneath the luxury tax by about 200,000. That’s something that I think Miami could absolutely be interested in. Now, a lot of people might ask, now that we’re under the luxury tax, would the Heat consider going after a restricted free agent? Absolutely not. Like a Josh Giddy, a Kaminga, Cam Thomas, no chance. Miami would not go into that whatsoever. And it would just put them right back in the luxury tax. So, there’s no need for them to do that whatsoever. Um, also might be asked about Al Horford. That is something that is not going to happen either. Um, he is basically a Golden State Warrior. He would not come to Miami, although I would be in on grabbing Al Horford. Another player that people might ask about is Russell Westbrook, a guy that would absolutely qualify for that vet exception. He is basically, I’m pretty sure, a Sacramento king already. Um, they just got to work out the financials of are they moving Malik Monk? Are they not? So, I think that’s something that probably would not be on the horizon. And as I’m continue to look at some of these free agents still available, maybe you can talk into a bowl, but when I’m thinking of players Miami are going to sign, I think it’s going to be an AUA. I think it’s going to be a Trey Lyles or maybe even an Alec Burks back. Now, we know Miami did work out Kai Jones this entire week. Barry Jackson reported as of yesterday that the Heat did not tell Kai Jones. They intend to sign him to a standard contract. So, a full week of Kai Jones being in Miami working out for this organization does not land him a contract. Um, I would take Kai Jones. He was excellent in the final 12 games of the year for the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 11 and a half points and six and a half rebounds and 21 minutes a night. Um, if you believe he can stay on the straight and narrow and be a good piece of this roster and be a player that you can depend on, his talent, athleticism is certainly something I would like to add to this front court. So, I would sign Kai Jones if you feel confident about that. But, that’s a big if. Um, that’s kind of where things stand. I know Drew Smith is going to be a player Miami would think about bringing back. He’s not eligible for a two-way. So, if they brought him back, it would have to be on a standard deal. He was very good for Miami and the limited game action he had before having that season ending injury. Um, but should Miami utilize their $4 million in space underneath the luxury tax to add another point guard, I don’t think that would be a smart investment unless you save some more money, which you technically could wave and stretch Simone Fonteio. I would think that would be a mistake, but you technically could do that. save another four and a half, five million, be eight and a half million dollars underneath the luxury tax, go out and sign a couple free agents like Achua and then Adrew Smith and an Alec Burks and actually bring in all three of them to this roster. Do I think that’s a smart decision? Absolutely not. Um, but this is kind of where I see things headed. Um, before we head out of here, let me know which free agent, what player should Miami sign to this Heat roster since they do have spots open. Um, if you can’t tell, I have consistently been on the pressure SUA train. I think it would just be a fun story to bring him back. And I do think he is actually the most capable and competent and productive big man still on the free agent market that is actually signable. Like I don’t count El Horford, but obviously if he could sign El Horford, he would be my my number one choice. Um, but it’s just not going to happen and he’s not even available to Miami, so there’s no reason to talk about it. So mine is definitely a Chua. Probably put Trey Lyles number two. And then I would probably put Kai Jones number three. His numbers intrigued me from last season. He’s still young, he’s athletic, and the Heat developmental staff could get the most out of him. But like I said, let me know your top guy. And if the Heat do make a move, I’ll have you covered on my social media. So follow me on Twitter, Neck_rolloff. Miami shed salary in the Highsmith trade to get under the luxury tax, and created an open spot on the Miami Heat roster. Heat rumors after the Haywood Highsmith trade suggest Miami probably will sign someone in NBA Free Agency. Heat Report host Nic Rohloff believes the Heat roster needs another big man to help Kelโ€™el Ware and Bam Adebayo. 1. Its amazing to me how many Heat pundits and fans could believe that thr amismo Heat organization is so incompetent, that they would trade Highmith and a second round pick solely to get under the tax when they had plenty of time to do so. Its ridiculous.

  2. Bro Pat don't care about winning. What else does he need to do to show you. We've had over achieving teams but not built to win championships. Ever offseason just rumors but no big contracts. Herro will be let go also in time.
