The All-Time Celtics Draft | Who drafted the best team?
[Music] [Applause] Oh, knock loose. White five on it. This is twice now the Celtics have been first to the floor and they saw a save with Harford. Unbelievable. Boston first to the floor. So good. Brown fakes, fires up the three. Bang. Tatum dives on the floor. Everybody dies. Brown with the flush. Blocked by Porzingis. He’s doing it all. Tatum spinning, driving. Washington drives. Blocked by White. Oh, what a block from Derek White. [Music] Welcome in first to the floor. Ben Val here along with Wayne Spoon and Jake Eisenberg. Joining us for the ultimate alltime Celtics draft, not one but two esteemed guests, Sam Lef France of How about About Them Celtics and Dan Greenberg of Bastil Sports. Guys, thanks for joining us. How’s it going? Of course. on top, mate. This is good. I mean, yeah, we talked about just before we hopped on, the offseason’s tough. We don’t get to see Sam as much. Don’t get to talk to Greeny as much. So, it’s nice in I mean, you guys know you can always hit me up anytime. I’m not doing anything. It’s like Yeah. Yeah. But, you know, like we we’re seeing less of each other as well. I’m seeing less of Ben and Spoon, too. Like, there’s only so many hours we can be talking about the Celtics in the middle of August at the moment. Um, but yeah, it’s good to see you guys. I’m excited to dominate this alltime draft that we’re going to get to um later. But yeah, uh yeah, it’s it’s tough in real life when you have to hang out with your real friends instead of your online Celtics tomorrow, but uh here we are. Um I only have him for the summer. I don’t talk to him once the season starts. That’s right. I prefer that that part of the year as well. Um, so before we get into it, I think uh quick news item which would be the sale of the the Boston Celtics. So that sale to Bill Chisum and co now officially complete. Uh, and somewhat unexpectedly Wick Gbeck has transitioned to the role of of governor or rather transition the role of governor directly to Billy C. I think initially we didn’t expect that to occur until 2028. Yet here we are. So before we get to this alltime Celtics draft, let’s just go around the room real quick. Spoony. Why is this a big deal? I have no idea. Uh, no. I think it it highlights what maybe we all sort of thought is like it’s all well and good to pretend you’re playing nice with the guys who own the team before you did, but once you become the owner, your priorities just change. And you want to be the dude who is like in the day-to-day and making the big decisions. Obviously, if you just paid, you know, 3.5 billion was his share, something like that. So, uh, kind of similar to what happened with Cuban, uh, where they promised he could stay on and kind of run the team and then he was out in like a couple months. This seems a lot more, um, congenial than that was, but, uh, I’m not super surprised, assuming this means like Chisum’s going to take a a more prominent role in things a little quicker than we anticipated. It may not mean that. In which case, you know, ignore everything I just said. Yeah. Greedy, go ahead because uh I saw you on the timeline. Surprise. Yeah. I just my first thing was, you know, I didn’t really appreciate how we learned of the news, right? Like I feel like Sham’s tweet initially was so vague and was like very quick to be first and get the shock and awe of holy [ __ ] wick is out like this whole plan we thought was going to happen is now you know blown up and then as the story came out and then I’ll you know I just wait for him to just tell me what the real situation is you learn that maybe this was really just an NBA rule thing in terms of percentage of ownership and that this was really the plan all along which I don’t know if I buy because why didn’t they just say that in the first place if that was the plan so I don’t know what it means you know if it means that Wick is in the room while these things are being discussed and decisions are being made but it’s Billy Chisum who gets the final say like okay I always assumed that was going to be how it was anyways if this means that Wick isn’t in the room for any of this stuff and he’s like a you know in-n-ame only CEO that’s just to maybe stroke his ego and and pride then I’m not sure that I love it because you know I can’t imagine Bill Chisum has been in too many you know rooms where he has to make basketball decisions. I would like the institutional knowledge to be part of that process, but really we just have to wait until next summer when it comes time or even February when it comes time for this team to make roster decisions, you know, that are going to fall on on Chisum. Yes, Eton Chisum is going to make the Patriots team slightly uh less money than Bill Chisum in his bank account probably. Sam, thoughts on on uh this potential story? non-story. Well, it turned out to be a non-story, but I completely agree with Grainy. Like that first Shams tweet comes in and we’re like, whoa, stabbed him in the back in the back, threw him off the pirate ship, made him walk the plank in front of everybody, and then as the day goes on, like more and more like real information trickles out. We’re like, whoa, this is absolutely nothing. Like I had written a whole article like is this the first red flag? Like Bill Chisum since he bought the team has been like the perfect guy. Like in your head, picture the guy you want to own the team, grew up here, dieh hard fan, says he’s going to do all these great things, goes to all these games, even the meaningless ones in early April. Like he’s all around talking to the media like around the court, like seemed very engaged. He was watching the Garden Report, talking to Bobby Manning about his takes. Like he was locked in. Then I was like, “Is this the first like peeling back of the mask to be like this is actually what I’m here to do?” And it turns out, no, that’s not the case. But what I will say is since we’ve learned about Bill Chisum, he may he may be a little bit of a curse because we have a long somebody put this on Twitter the other day. Says since the sellers were sold in March, Jaylen tore his meniscus, Porzingis’s lungs fell out, Tatum Achilles exploded, lost to the stupid Knicks, Drew traded, Porzingis traded, Cornet left, Horford disappeared off the face of the earth. You can’t escape the vibe shift. Shout out to Mighty Dyer 13 for this. and he was at he was at the Tatum Achilles game. He was at the Sacramento game where Sabona slid under his uh foot and I believe he was at the Tatum wrist game as well, game one of the Magic Series. So, don’t love that. I guess he can’t curse Tatum anymore than he already has um next season. But yeah, the real test will be if if the Iron Man, you know, in Pritchard and White, if they start getting hurt, then then I think we may have uh have to do a little Kyrie Sage situation in the arena. Yeah. So, yeah. So, the rule was like if you own less than 15% of the team, you you have to be you can’t be the official governor essentially. And that was why it changed. But yeah, I think we’ve we’ve kind of been consistent in that like we will find out once the bill comes due. When the bill actually comes due to build the next version of the 2024 Celtics, are you willing to pay the $112 million tax bill? Um the feels like do you buy the Boston Celtics to be like, “Oh, actually I have no interest in paying the luxury tax.” Yeah, I feel like that has to be question number one when you’re interviewing potential buyers of like you know that we’re an expensive team, right? You know that you have to pay. So, I just can’t and and if they are able to save him some money this season in a down year, it’s like, okay, Billy, we saved you 300 million last year. It’s time to now pay up and and reput that into the team. I hope. Totally. You know, it makes it makes both financial and basketball sense to cut all types of salary this season. So that that makes sense. Um I do I did think it was funny that Wick’s title is now alternate governor. It it does it does kind of wreak of assistant to the regional manager and not assistant regional manager for all my millennials out there that understand that reference. Yeah. What I want to know is what do you guys think Pags Do you think Pags is just loving this and laughing and like oh now you’re an alternate governor like me buddy like welcome to life like I just want to know give Pag some truth serum and let’s hear how he feels about all this. He’s actually I feel bad for Wick in the role. It seems like it seems like Pags like cannot buy a team for the life of him. He’s like shaking his his money out there like please a WNBA team an NBA team someone take my money and no one will. I will gladly take it. If he’s offering hundreds of million, invest in me. I will I will start a men’s league team at Inc. Yeah, invest in Granny. Invest in Spoon Inc. We’ve got a we got a starting five right here, Pags. We can take you take you home. Ready if needed. Yeah. Um but yeah, it sounds like Wick’s going to be in the room for the for the short term at least, which I think we’re all pretty comfortable with. Uh we’re going to get to this alltime draft, but uh Jake, if you’ve got the prize picks, read there. I think we should sneak in an ad break now to not interrupt the draft. um you know, a quarter of the way through. So, let’s hear a quick word from our friends over at Prize Picks. That’s right. Prize Picks time, baby. Patriots are almost here. Trayvon Henderson 100 yard punt return on his first touch. Uh we Yeah, we will be smashing more on on Trayvon once that rolls around. In the meantime, WNBA, the socks are rolling. Plenty of uh plenty of places to ear to place uh a couple of Benjamins as we survive the uh NBA off season here. But yeah, I think we’re we got the pre another preseason game coming up on uh 3:00 a.m. for us on Saturday. But yeah, I’ll be getting getting around some some Travon props where we can. Download the app today. Use code cls to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup. Download the app today and use code cls to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup. Price picks run your game. Shout out price prize picks. All right, the alltime Celtics draft. So, five teams. Obviously, there’s five of us. We’re drafting a starting five. If we’ve got time, we’ll draft a six-man as well. And then it’s on you, the listener, to let us know who has the best team. Like, leave a comment. Tweet at us, tweet at Greeny, tweet at Sam, comment on YouTube, comment on Spotify, which you can do now. Uh, leave us an Apple podcast review. However you want to get in touch with us to let us know who drafted the the goatiest team of goats. Uh, we’d much appreciate it. Now, uh, this will be a snake draft, which, uh, if you’ve been a fan of the show for a while, I have some sort of mental deficiency where I I can’t deal with a snake draft. So, we’re all going to get through this together. Uh, also, we have pre-generated the draft order. If we can just run the the clip here just uh, for authenticity’s sake, you can see me earlier today um, very much very fairly in a non-cheing fashion entering in the names. Everyone’s names capital. Spoony, Ben, Greeny, Jake, Sam. Huge. All right, we’re back. Back. Let’s get this off the screen. I don’t want the first pick. Does you Do you want to trade? What are you? I’m four. No, I want But I think I’m going to stay. I think I’m going to stay. Okay, let’s stay. Okay. Can I Can I like just do my annoying thing and just kind of like give some context into what we’re looking at here? So the boys like Well, I just mean like are we trying to fit like draft the most successful team like all of these guys had the most individual success or we trying to fit draft the team that’s like this team would play the best together? I think that’s your own draft strategy. To me it’s the best team approach. To me, it’s like if these five teams played a tournament, if these five teams played a tournament uh after this draft, who would win? That’s how I’ve been thinking of it. Okay. Are we limited? Good thing we said this position or is it like No, you can have five Isaiah at the five. Can I play Isaiah at the Yeah, that that might limit your team ranking when we get feedback from the people if you draft Isaiah Thomas at the five. But that’s totally your freedom to do that if that’s what you want to do. Let’s keep it spicy. Hang on. rough position sketched out, but yeah, let’s do it. I’m ready to go. I know who I’m taking. Go ahead. Okay, there it is. Picking between two guys. Um, you know me. I’m a modern NBA [ __ ] Uh, dude, keep it running, Ben. Keep it running. I’m going to keep going. Emmy speech. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, so I’m I’m drafting a guy who fits in perfectly with the modern game. Maybe the most talented best Celtic of every of ever. Ever. There we go. That’s the word. to ever ever. Not to ever ever ever. This is an Outcast song. Um, but not the most successful team-wise because there’s some guys that you just can’t compete with. But first overall taking Larry Bird. Wow. Wow. Larry Bird. All right. Huge. [Laughter] I thought he was going to zag. He He was teeing it up like he was going to pick like who knows who. Maybe Tilman. I was Yeah, I was not ready for that. So, um, one of my favorite things running through here is like especially these like goat goat Celtics players is like looking through the champion like the all-star games and there some of the stats like nine straight all NBA first teams obviously the three straight MVPs but like um three straight MVPs that he capped with a title plus finals MVP on 269 and 8 plus two steals in the finals on 524193 in the playoffs. Yeah, I think uh I think Larry Bird at number one, by the way, also played 43 minutes a night in those playoffs. He on the back of his third MVP. Like, yeah, top top five player all time. Fair fair call. Yeah, I definitely see it from like the modern fit perspective as well. Plus, just Larry Bird [ __ ] cool looking dude. Like, I think and that that look as well, the mullet is like very much back with the uh the young people uh these days. So, he’s going to fit in well from a a ticket selling perspective as well. If I can move on to the second pick. Um I can’t believe the the goat fell to me, but uh Bill Russell I I believe I have to have to take as my number one pick. Yeah. Any any any dissension among amongst the group? Can you believe you know does does he fit into modern day? Um yes charged Rob. I’m kidding. Yeah. Yeah. Bill Russell will fit in like 205. You know, there is no era of basketball that Bill Russell does not fit in. So, yeah. I Sam, I was thinking about that. Like, that’s if you could put uh Bill Russell on that 2022 Celtics team in the Rob Williams roving role. I mean, that that would have been an easy W. Wouldn’t have gotten hurt obviously, but uh yeah. So, 11 time. Does Eay does eay play him and drop coverage is the question. That’s that’s what we know. Does he keep eBay as an honest man? Does that happen? That could leader of men changes the course of history. Could Bill Russell switch in the modern NBA? Is he a switch five? He could do anything. Oh, damn it. In space, the break go bear. So, you have arguably the greatest game seven elimination player of all time. Like, yeah, I’m feeling good about the pick. Steph Curry. Yeah, Steph Curry. Meet Bill Russell. I think a fun thing to look at. So, five-time MVP. Um, in the 62 playoffs, he played 48 minutes a night. It’s a lot uh for those playing at home. Averaged 22 points, 26 boards, and five assists for an entire playoff run. And, uh, in the 61 playoffs, averaged 29.9 rebounds per game, which some of the stats there lot of miss shots in those days, but there’s awesome. I think I think Russell the passing too. people really don’t talk about a ton, but just like the way he infected your team with his unselfishness with the ball movement, it was like people are like, “Oh my god, we’ve never seen a man that tall pass before.” So, um, yeah, Bill Russell definitely fits in the modern NBA. He’d be like the rich man’s bam out of bio, which is like I mean that in the fullest compliment possible, which is like an MVP level player. Yep. Sure. All righty. At number three, now you guys may remember it’s a very famous quote. I think it’s actually for the uh Uncle Drew video or movie promo. Bill Russ said the at the end of the day, this game is about getting buckets and no Celtics has scored more points than my Rondo. So, I’m thinking Rondo at three all-time leading scorer. I think in the modern NBA he would obviously develop a three-point game. He’s versatile. He, you know, he’s a bucket. We’re gonna have to score. I want a go-to guy. So, I’m going Hondo and his 26,000 points. Yeah, you can’t go wrong. You can’t go wrong. I I thought there was just two choices here and all morning. I’m like, if I as long as I don’t get the fifth pick. So, sorry to say France here. Um, targeted. Yeah, there like Bill Russell, Larry Bird. A clear tier one to me. Larry Bird. Bill Russell. I think Hondo, you could argue is in a tier alone here, but as far as like building a team, there’s another guy that I think positionally ceiling in the playoffs versatility wise that is really hard to match past this point and that’s Jason Tatum. Yep. That’s Jason Tatum. Did not think he was going to make it back to me. Yeah. Like I think you have to take Bill Russell where where Ben was, but Larry, Hondao, and Tatum now allow you to build your team in basically any way that you want, right? Because Hondao was like the original Tatum like of I guess or Tatum was is kind of molded in the Hondo image in that played a ton of games, played a ton of minutes, played every position, um could just do everything for you. Like even, you know, like you know, Bird never had the heights of Tatum in the playoffs as far as scoring goes. you know, 50 plus. But Hondao 54 points careerhigh in the playoffs against the Hawks. It was a round one game one game. So, you can’t put it on the same level as Tatum 46 or 51 in game seven. Um, and I always forget his career is funny cuz like he didn’t make all NBA first team until he was 30 years old and then he made four straight again. Same as Tatum making four straight. But, um, so that’s uh can’t go wrong with with Hondo there. But Tatum Tatum gone. Give me give me the dude that can play play every position. Um yeah, I think that that’s now you’re you’re picking pre-chillies Tatum. I would imagine 202 go post. I’ll take post. I don’t care. Pre-post during whatever. Chuck him out there today. He’s good to go. Walking up the stairs in Providence Tatum on Jake’s team. Let’s go. All right. I’ll pick these guys. I’ll pick Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. Oh wow. Efficient efficient drafting a chemistry. Talk us through your strategy here. Well, uh KG was probably like if if we’re talking like best best available. There are other players who are going to get picked that are right around that range, but he was a borderline MVP level guy. Defensive player of the year in 2008. Pierce wins the finals MVP. He’s second to Havchek in scoring in Celtics history. So you’re going to get your buckets too. And Pierce has had like a good amount of experience playing on mediocre to bad teams. So having good players on his team will really help him fit uh fit along very well. I I I’m in the fifth pick spot. I mean that’s great value in my opinion. Good value. Yeah, dude. Yeah, great value. And like you get you get a chemistry boost like when you’re playing uh FIFA Ultimate Team and the two guys played on the same team. Like I think you get the 08 chemistry boost by bringing these two guys together. I mean, you got the defensive player of the year when he played for the Celtics, third and MVP. Like, this dude was the guy. Um, and Pierce, I mean, like the wing the wing spot on the all-time great Celtics like you I think you again maybe the tear break now the teough nut to crack and that’s honestly what makes Tatum so impressive is that he’s already cracked it and he’s only been, you know, assulting for what, eight, nine years. You know, it’s it’s arguably their deepest position, I would think, but I’m sure we’ll figure that out. But I think they they are just so loaded historically at the wing, even dating back to like the 50s and 60s. It’s, you know, wings are the key to winning basketball, I think, is the takeaway. Yeah. And I think I think the best wings have all gone now with Pierce. I think at his best, able to guard better than people think. So, back to me. Overlook James Young in my opinion. Little rude, but you know, little rude. Ugo going, Jake? Yeah, Ugo. Spanish Kawaii up next here. So, um RJ in the chat here is is on to it. Uh Sam, but he went KG, which I think is totally maybe more versatile offensively, but I’m taking I’m taking Cowins. Taking Cowins, the 7273 MVP. um in a year where he won over Kareem, Tiny Archerald, Wilt Avichek I believe was fifth that season as well. 21 and 16, 216 rebounds on the season uh leading the Celtics to 68 wins. Now, could some argue that he shouldn’t have won that MVP over Kareem, who had uh 36 and five and led the Bucks to 60 Ws? I would I would just point to 68 uh wins in a championship for for David CS and the Boston Celtics. So, um and uh yeah, so I and again these these elite big men there’s no more uh MVPs on the board. So, Cowins, Tatum, we’re good to go. You say that I would like to pick someone who almost who almost made a top three in MVP if I may. I’m going to run up to the board. I’m taking Kevin McCale. I mean, what do we do? The the fact that he KG we are we are ecstatic in our draft room. I mean, arguably one of the greatest power forwards of all time during their 86 season. He stepped up. He could He showed I actually got I don’t know who I was even arguing with on Twitter. They must have been like 10 years old, but they were trying to gaslight me to tell me that Kevin McCale wasn’t, you know, playing at a 1A level towards the back half of the 80s. You get the size, you get the post offense. If I need a bucket, I know I can lob it down to him. I know I can rely on him to play hurt. Broken foot, who gives a [ __ ] Uh, so I’m going Kevin Michaela as my as my starting power forward. I mean, yeah, there’s no arguments here, but I don’t know. So, starting power forward. No, no shooting in the modern era at the four splot. Just wait. Just wait. Just wait. Joe Mazul is going to see your roster and have an aneurysm. Grainy. I know. Well, I’m I’m showing him how to win in, you know, the post, you know, the post 24 something. We’re going to have to diversify this year, so I’m trying to show him the way. I don’t know if that’s Luke Luca Garza postups. I don’t know if that’s the equivalent, but I don’t know. Yeah, Hondao’s got plenty of buckets in him. with male, you just throw it down into the post and and get out of the way and let him go the [ __ ] to work. So, it’s it’s a tough gritty team. I think Missoula would be a big fan of Green’s team so far. It’s almost like imagine if KP didn’t, you know, have a mystery illness and be un, you know, unable to make a post move against the switch. Now, you have to deal with the male Thunderdome. Like, that’s not good news. Yeah, I think yeah, throwing it in against Gary Harris in round one. I think we’re getting a couple buckets with male down there. Um, huge. I love that. What? seventime all-star and you know if you if you if you do find yourself in a scenario where you get more Celtics that can play in the four spot backto-back six man of the year winner Kevin McCale so worst case scenario you know he’s happy to be Pton Pritchard and um play any role asked of him in order to win a championship so we’re back to me now and then we’ll review the first two rounds once we get to the end of Spoon’s pick here but uh yeah the wing well is maybe drying up a little bit here so I need someone who can play the three spot maybe play a little bit of the two spot as well and be a defensive hound against some of this guard talent that we’re going to see. It also pairs nicely with the Bill Russell pick as well. I’m going with Jaylen Brown as my second pick. Okay. Okay. Okay. I was hoping he might fall. And again, this is this is why I I just refuse to believe that Jaylen Brown’s contract is bad cuz you just can’t find guys that can do everything at his size and position. like every the amount of teams that would be perfected by adding a Jaylen Brown type to their team in today’s NBA is the list is too long. It’s JB. I mean, is it weird seeing Jaylen Brown in the top 10 of all time Celtics draft? Kind of a little bit considering who’s on the board, but I think poundfor-pound like JB is right up there. He’s awesome. Um, and we’re all a little tainted from his kind of down season last year, but he’s going to come out. I think he’s gonna like show us why uh he’s gonna be one of the best Celtics of all time, assuming he stays on the team. Can I Can I ask you guys for some advice? I need some some anti-triggering advice. How do I not get mad online when this this iteration of the team if they lose and I have to listen to people tell me that oh Jaylen Brown actually sucks because you know Josh Minot isn’t you know the same type of player as Al Horford like how do we how do we separate that knowing that the talent around because everyone’s saying oh this is Jaylen Jer he has to prove he can lead a team but obviously this roster around him is not built to contend so How can I not get triggered online? Because I know my mentions are going to say it. I need all the advice that you guys could could give me. I feel like this is Yeah, go ahead. Just think about like how nicely AJ would pair next to Jaylen and Jason. They’ve been grewing him for years like he’s been poking around the garden like every time they maybe even you put some ping pong balls on your desk and you just have 19 on them. Thinking about banner 19, but the ping pong balls might start you on the journey there. Yeah. I just I just can feel myself getting mad cuz the people aren’t going to take contacts into account. You know, same thing same thing’s going to happen to me with Missoula. It’s like I just know it’s going to happen and I’m just not ready for how I’m going to uh how I’m going to handle it. I can’t speak for the hordes of idiots on that website, but for me personally, like it kind of it’s kind of like Deon Booker in that the last couple seasons the the the context around him has been kind of a disaster. I want to see Jaylen still put up good numbers, relative good efficiency, play well defensively. Can’t he kind of maintain his star uh production on relatively good efficiency in spite of the context around him being a lot worse? That’s kind of what I’m looking for. And as long as he’s doing that, then I think you you’ll be able to point to like a 25 six and four. Like that’s that’s that’s an NBA type player. It’s just the wins aren’t gonna come when you lose five of your top eight when two of them are Tatum and Hawford that made up of like the fabric of your team. Yeah. Just have a screenshot of the front court saved and ready to add to any tweet as proof and reasoning as to why Jaylen Brown’s not performing. But not only that, but the wing the wing depth as well. Like that’s just what I feel like people don’t understand. And it’s like you’re replacing these guys who were your core with players who have never played in the NBA for the most part or couldn’t even crack the rotation on their old team and their minimum, you know, upside guys. I just I know it’s coming. So even though it’s August, I’m trying to like train my brain to resist it, but I feel by like October 23rd, I’m going to be, you know, back in it. So you can’t help yourself greeny. We all know it. It’s my It’s my vice. I’m als I’m also using this Jaylen pick hopefully as like fuel and proof to deflect the the people who accuse me of being a Jaylen Brown hater in the future. It seems to happen anytime out of his name. So hopefully this puts me back in uh in the good grace of the Jaylen Brown stands out there. But Spoony, I believe it’s your pick. So I think guards are kind of not a weakness, but it just feels like there’s less options out there for some of the guards for like the truly elite. So, I’m gonna take I think the greatest point guard in Boston Celtics history. He’s AllNBA 12 straight seasons. AllNNBA first team 10 straight seasons. Did he shoot 37% from the floor in his 5-year peak? Yes. But it was a different era. 19 five and a half, eight and a half in a five-year peak. Elite, maybe the best player in the NBA won an MVP. That is Bob Koozie. Yeah. Oh boy. It’s Bobzi, by the way, who scoffs at Ben’s book. Yeah. Hold on. Yes, that’s right. Yeah. Uh, my son is here, so give me a second. But yeah, no worries. You’re good, Scooty. You’re good. He’s like, “Terrible, terrible pick, Dad.” Yeah, dude. My left hand. Always going to be a risk. Pacuzzi talk. Oh, never mind. Did you hear Never mind. I [ __ ] it up. Stepped on the joke. You’re good. There’s always going to be a risk in in me drafting Jaylen Brown that I I would look very foolish immediately afterwards with Bob Koozie being the next pick. And that is exactly what’s happened. Jake, yeah, look, the the league leader in assists eight years in a row uh might have an argument ahead of Jaylen Brown. You know, Bob Kuzie won an MVP again. Obviously, it was a different era, but yeah, look, there’s a chance Jaylen Brown would have made it back to you considering that uh Spoony already had his like lead big wing in Larry Bird, but you know, I know Spoony has been noticed to be a wing queen at times. Uh I know that with Koozie, maybe to Sam’s point here, is that you’re going to get a guy that’s outspoken, going to speak his mind, keep the fellas in, and maybe it’s best to keep Jaylen and Koozie off the same team at this point, Sam. Maybe. May. Yeah, it’ll be like marquee. It’ll be NBA rivalry week when they those two drafted teams play against each other. Team Koozie, team Jaylen. That’ll that’ll be the matchup. Michael Hilly talking about JJ Reic in the uh chat. Do you think part of the hiring of JJ for the Lakers was his thrashing of Koozie consistently? Like did that like give him a leg up in I do if there was a if it was a tie that probably, you know, broke the broke the tie. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, like if Kendrick Perkins had been uh a coaching candidate and a serious one, which he obviously wouldn’t be, um like who has shadow on the Celtics more in the past kind of like two to three seasons, Kendrick Perkins in the media probably would have had the the edge on it, but JJ going after Koozie like that. I mean, perk on the Now, let me ask you. I imagine we’re all aligned in terms of like, you know, we’re we’re f we are all full steam ahead on the tank, but can we agree that the one game they have to win is when the Laker they’re in LA and they unveil the Pat Riley statue. I need that to be a Celtics win. Win lose every other game on in the season, ruin their statue night and win that game in LA. Oh yeah, we got to go six and 76 and you you win the the two games against the Lakers and the four games against the Knicks, right? That and then you can lose every other game as far as I’m concerned. I’m good to go. Uh all right, so we’ve completed the first two rounds. Uh before we snake back to Spoony for pick number one, Spoon, welcome back. Uh we had a little family visitor. I think that’s a first. We’ve managed to go so many years into the pub without one of our kids hopping on the show. Are you all good for this game time read? I’ve pulled it up myself um to do it in case you’re expecting another interruption. All right, I hopefully am okay for now, but yeah, let’s hit it. All right, game time, Spoony. That was absolutely. Again, Missoula would be impressed. Uh, all right. So, to recap the draft so far, Spoon’s got Larry Bird and Bob Koozie. I’ve got Bill Russell, Jaylen Brown. Greeny with Hondao and Kevin McCale. Jake with JT and Dave Cowins. Sam with Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, the 08 championship duo there. So, Spoony, we’re going to round it back off to you for first week of round three. Before Before we keep going, um I forgot to do this at the top here, but I was on the Allame American Hoops podcast a little while ago, and we did this alltime Celtics trough, and I’ve completely stolen it from those guys. So, I promised them I would I promised them I would both steal it and shout them out. So, shout out to Chris, John, and Matt from the All-American Hoops podcast. They’re a great pod. Recommend checking them out. But yes, are you doing the thing where you have like eight fantasy football drafts and you just draft the same team every single time or have you draft diverted from your strategy in that draft? Oh, the No, I got I did I got Hondo instead of Tatum this time and but I did get Cowins in backto-back drafts here. So, um I am prepared. This is my second I have had a mock draft here. So, uh I would be pissed at myself for not pulling off the best team here. Uh but Spoody, uh go ahead. Okay. Um, everybody’s got a big man except me. So, I feel like I don’t need to draft big here. I think there’s some guys who are going to slide a little bit. I need a wing. I do not have a wing. It’s a modern NBA. Everybody knows wings are useless, so I’m good. Uh, but I’m I’m going to go with Ray Allen. Uh, Ray Allen, Larry Bird. Uh, I love Ray. I high-fived him when they played a preseason game at UMass’s Mullen Center. didn’t wash my hand for 24 hours. One of the best moments of my life. Um Ray, three all-star games in Boston, even though he was only there for five years. Like you know what it is with Ray. A little bit of ball handling. One of the greatest shooters of all time. And like once he got to Boston, a good defensive player, too. So like Ray could do it all. Was a superstar who decided to downgrade his role and it won the Celtics a championship. I mean, listen, if if if everyone has forgiven Ray for his transgressions, so have I. So, I I love the pick. I mean, I’m I’m back on the Ray bandwagon. Yeah. Yeah. There’s such such good modern applications for Ray Allen as well, just as far like he could he could put the ball on the floor as well, especially earlier in his career and like very early in his career as a Milwaukee Buck. He was a bit of a high flyer as well, but as a Celtic, just like a pure finesse guy. He was like one of my first favorite Celtics as I really like started to lock in to that the Celtics as a whole in like 08 to0 or to 2010 rather. Um just the way that he would come off a screen uh and threaten the defense and just how smooth he was uh in doing so. Um I just love that the play style there and I love how Doc continued to put him in that position just running him off those curls and floppy actions and things like that and Ray getting three-point buckets. Um yeah, love to hear. Any other Ray thoughts before we move on to the next pick? Great pick. I really I really thought that he would fall, but like that’s of the wing guys like can guard multiple positions, give you versatility offensively. Like this Yeah, man. There’s a reason why that 08 team was just unstoppable cuz Yeah. Like he just gave you something that it’s like, okay, now we got to put our our third or fourth worst defender on on [ __ ] Ray Allen. Well, then we’re we’re dead. Now tonight, I’m getting some recommendations in the chat to go double big. Uh, I do need I do need a point guard though. I do need a table setter. And there’s a couple of I’m trying to play the sound again here. Here we go. Um, there’s a couple of options on the board uh point guard wise. Some very controversial uh who will not be named. Um, I’m going to go with prime Rajon Rondo as my Celtics all time point guard. Yeah, I mean 2010 her. Yeah. I mean, you get playoff Rondo. Enough said. I mean, he’s playoff rondo. Like, what are we what are we talking about? Yeah. Like, and on a team that’s full of stars like this, we know he can do it, right? He’s able to be playoff Rondo, point guy, Rondo amidst Garnett, Pierce, and Allen, and kind of oscillate between star role player depending on what the game needed. I mean, perfect. The thing I worry about a little bit with like the Rondo Russell pick and roll, for example, against modern NBA defenses is like because Rondo wasn’t a shooting threat, like can you kind of sag off of him in those actions and and contain Bill Russell and kind of force Rondo to to, you know, make a play or make a shot from the perimeter? Um, but with him falling this far, I mean, needing a point guard, it just felt like a no-brainer to draft him. used to kill teams that dropped against him though. Like he would just get kind of ahead of like ahead of steam and like get all the way to the rim and throw some of those crazy ass passes to the corner. So I don’t think you can really drop against Rondo and he’d be ooping Bill Russell. I think they’d be fine. Bill Russell center would be okay. That that that Ray Allen pick hurt me because that’s where I was going to go. Um spiral Ray and Larry Bird. Are you kidding me? It’s okay. It’s okay. And I’m I’m a little surprised he lasted. Maybe I shouldn’t be. He’s not elite of the elites, but we’re talking about wings. We’re adding 6’7. Whoa. Hang on, Tommy. Wait, it’s Grady’s pick. Oh [ __ ] Oh no. Okay. I wasn’t going that direction, but do you mind? Can I board this out? This is the board. Okay. This is why I need the board. I’m like I have no idea. There we go. Um All right. So, I think based on Okay, I’m gonna go back court. Now, when I think of the greatest Celtics of all time, I c in in the back court category. I’m not sure I can overlook someone whose nickname was Mr. Clutch. For me, the answer at shooting guard is going to be Sam Jones. three-time allNBA, 10 time champion, member of the all-time top 75 team. He’s 6’4. While he didn’t shoot a ton of threes, he did shoot 45% from the floor, 80% from the line. So, I’m projecting that that would translate into three-point shooting. Usually, free throw shooting is a good indicator there. Um, I need some some back court. He still gives me some size if he has to guard up. Um, and again, Mr. clutch. Can’t go wrong for when the game’s on the line and the title’s on the line. I’m going Sam Jones. Had a had a peak of like mid20s, five and a half, three and a half for a long long time. Sam Jones was like bucket getter, defender, just an awesome pick. Underrated player I think too these days. Like I really didn’t know a ton about him till I was prepping for this draft and I was like, “Holy [ __ ] he was good.” Yeah, he’s a sneaky one because he was obviously on all those teams, you know, the Russell Celtics, like you don’t really think of him, but again, Mr. Clutch, like you got to have him. I think perfect like when you’re creating one of these types of teams and and like you’ve got Honda, right? So, I think that’s that’s perfect. Like, you need that one who’s going to be the guy you go to at the end of games and yeah, Mr. Clutch. Uh Sam’s getting killed at the back of the draft here. It feels like um I don’t think so. I think there’s value. There’s value. There be value. I have like a list in front of me and I’m just like doing I’m like the Zack Galifanakis meme of him at the blackjack table thinking of all the equation like as he count counts cards. That’s how I feel about trying to draft my team. I’m going to get there. We’re going to get there. We’re going to be okay. We’re going to see how how it goes. We’re see where it takes us. I feel I can see the gears turning in your mind, Sam. I’m watching you closely. Uh Jake, Tommy, someone. Well, now I can like I feel I feel like the [ __ ] New Orleans Pelicans like they’ve they’ve like tweeted out like they’ve tipped their own pick uh before that like they’ve actually submitted the card. I feel like that’s like a picture from the draft room showing their big board. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. It’s like Derek Queen number one, Coopra Flag number two. Um that’s Yeah. So my bad on that one, but he’s Sam Jones was who I had next on my on my board there. So, I was I was happy to go either direction there. But again, a guy that can play the three, could play the four, Tommy Heinson, 6’7, uh, you know, rookie of the year, played nine nine seasons in the NBA, won eight titles. Get him on Get him on the [ __ ] team. Holy Cross legend. Shout out Western Massachusetts. Yeah, like this dude. No brainer. In the playoffs, uh, 2 25 and N in the 60 um 63 playoffs. Can play a variety of roles. And again, look at this. Look at this size on this team, dude. 6′ n Tatum. 6’7 Heansen. Cowan’s slightly undersized, but that’s why you can also play Tatum at point forward, too. So, you know, you’re you’re sort of handling your ball handling responsibilities there. Yeah, that’s right. That’s right. That that the Tatum the skeleton key rosting to roster building. Amazing. Great pick. Uh Sam Lef France, we’re we’re finally back uh in your area of the draft. Who you got? Who have you got? So, I completely blanked on the person I’m going to pick. Nobody picked him. I’m gonna pick Robert Parish. Put him next to KG. That’d be good. I think that would be a good good defensive scheme. Two massive individuals, great shot blockers, really will protect the rim for me as now now I’m at like a little bit of a crossroads. One coming into this draft, I thought of this draft as like the all-time like guys that were great Celtics, not necessarily great players. So, I was going to pick Tommy like first round. That’s why I was so devastated when Jake I was like just maybe the greatest Celtic ever, like player, coach, broadcast. He was there for all the rings and so on. He loved Isaiah Thomas. Isaiah Thomas is who I’m going to pick. Great. I personally love that pick. I love that pick. And Parish and KG got his back when he inevitably can’t defend him. All right. I like that. I like that. Twin Towers behind him protecting the rim, switching out on everybody, let it handle it. You’re getting arguably one of the greatest individual offensive Celtic seasons in franchise history. So, it’s like, you know, people I think don’t really either remember that or process just how hard that is to do. And he did it basically. It was like he was touched by God that in the 161 17 season. It was like from day one there was just something about how he moved. He was always a step ahead. Everything he threw up went out. I feel like we heard Tommy ejaculate on TV like seven times. That three against the Heat when he had like 53 or something like that. He just he shot it to the ceiling. I feel like Oh, that was a Celtic hockey. That that’s for sure. Oh man, that’s not to mention like those those teams didn’t suck, but they weren’t great. It was like him, Al Horford, and a bunch of role players. Jay Crowder. Yeah, it was like who we all like, but like Avery Bradley, very limited. I love it. All right, great great couple of picks there, Sam. That team’s really starting to fill out. Uh Jake, it’s back over to you. Man, the roster build is going to go two directions here. um in between two guys from the 2024 Celtics Championship uh roster and don’t another I’m hating this already. Do it. Is it I’m like I don’t I’m between Horford and Drew and if I go Hawford I’m like okay then we’ve got kind of like a 2022 version but I’m like can Tommy play the two? I guess Tatum can kind of can like you don’t really need a two. Like twos are like the one position you don’t need anymore. Um, but I’m going Drew Holiday because I think I’ve got I’ve got enough size and rebounding now between Cowins, Tatum, and uh Tommy. I’m bringing in Drew Holiday to again like the the defensive versatility on this team is is completely out of control. And I think we added a little bit of shooting 60%. We’re talking 2024 Drew Holiday here. um who uh is 60% from the corners, doesn’t miss a shot, can guard Embiid, can guard every position, and yeah, that’s uh that’s my first guard off the board here. Can’t believe you picked him. I was thinking about it, and I was like, might get him with the last pick. I I was like, I’ll leave him there. Clearly, I was wrong. I’m going to I’m not going to lie. I’m very happy that you did that cuz, you know, this is a position that I need and I He wasn’t even on my board. Uh just because of some of the names. I mean, it’s a great pick. I mean, obviously, I mean, he won them a title. I mean, it’s not like he’s a he was so good. He’s a slacker, but, you know, I just his what, two years there, I just feel like, you know, are you really like a like an all-time Celtic? Celtic or, you know, were you just part of that alltime team? I don’t know. A mercenary, that’s for sure. I mean, how many years was it there? Four. Two and a half. Two and a half. Two and a half. Yeah. So, I mean, he got that half a year. He at number four, you’re not sticking around long. Yeah. So, I don’t know if we if we’re going to wax poetic about Isaiah Thomas, I think that the champion in True Holiday, he was top five MVP that year. Put some respect on his name. I I can’t believe he turned to me of all people, my my short king. So, I’m also going guard and I’m looking at my team. I want a connector. I want someone who, you know, got the trust of of Larry Legend himself. I’m going Dennis Johnson to be my starting point guard. Gives me defense, gives me scoring, gives me clutch, the ultimate connector, got good size, you know, obviously another um you know um all-star AllNBA was a finals MVP. Some all ninetime all defense. So that sort of shores up my perimeter defense um because you know Hondo and Male might be a little bit slow in space. Uh so give me DJ for my starting guard uh this round. Great pick. I mean, yeah, the the lack of shooting may be a concern. I think one one thing we didn’t lay down, not to [ __ ] on DJ because it’s [ __ ] awesome, but like one thing we didn’t lay down is like what era is this team are these teams playing in? I suppose they’re all just playing against each other in this weird hypothetical. So maybe the shooting is less of a concern. Like some of those modern traits are less of a concern. Jake, Sam, any thoughts on the pick? Yeah, I mean you can’t go wrong. I think I feel like Drew Holiday, Dennis Johnson, Derek White, all fit into all fit into that category. Like five-time all-star for Dennis Johnson. Uh like Derek White’s probably going to give you like the most offensive firepower of the three like this version of Derek White. Um you know, Drew Holiday only two-time all-star, but I just really valued that that defensive versatility. But I mean, what are you talking about? Dennis Johnson. Yeah. Like ultimate ultimate connector. Ultimate. I mean, if Larry if he’s good enough for Larry Bird, he’s good enough for me. It’s basically how I live my life. So, it’s a good team. That’s that’s a tattoo waiting to happen. All right. Uh, so just to show the board here. So, I’m going to work through my thinking here. I might I might draw some some heat here, but obviously Bill Russell, great backbone defensively at the five. I’ve got Jaylen Brown. He’s my three in this scenario, and Rondo is obviously my point guard. So, I do have a four that I need to pick and a two guard. And I’m very happy that this person has fallen to me and I’m excited about the defensive versatility that my back court offers once I draft uh consumate winner Derek White as my two guard. The lead uh blocking guard in the league last year I believe and I think he adds a defensive spice to my team alongside Ronda who in his prime was an incredible defender as well. Little small little small but we can address that with the final pick. Um, but look, now I would specify, are you going you’re you’re going bald Derek White because there’s a difference between bald Derek and Derek with hair. I think you want bald Derek. Absolutely. No question. Sorry that it had to be said, but absolutely bald Derek White. Uh, I actually submitted a question to his podcast which he will not answer, but I asked him about did he feel the superpowers after he shaved his head or did that later become apparent to him that he had gained those superpowers. So, we’ll never answer that question, but I’m dying to know. Yeah. the summer that he shaved his head, he was playing in some open run and someone tweeted me a video of him like posterizing someone off the dribble and I was like, “What the hell did we just unlock by him just committing to it and getting rid of it?” It’s like Jake became the greatest podcaster of all time. Derek White became the greatest two guard, you know, of all time. I I run. Sorry, guys. I really have to run. So, let me get my last two because I’m up twice, right? Sorry. Al Horford and Twan. Yeah. Tough tough the Al Horford pick like again and that’s been the secret to like the whole last four years of the Celtics has been the versatility piece and Al Hawford specifically 2022 Al Hawford like he was ready to win a title that year. It like he shot 50% from three in the finals in that playoffs. I remember from synergy he he was giving up 0.65 points per possession in switches. He was one of the best switch bigs in the NBA. Was able to shoot threes at like a ridiculous clip and could also help you protect the rim like that. That player unlocks everything for a team. And yeah, I was like you it doesn’t matter which team he ends up on if you if you get Al Hawford, especially that point in the draft. God, that really just screwed me taking those two back to back. Yeah. Who Who else did you get? You got Hford and who? Oh, yeah. That was He was a late addition to my board. I had almost forgotten him. But yeah, as far as like wings go, you forget how high up on some of like the uh um lists he is, like he’s 15th all time in scoring for the Celtics. Uh I think he’s top 10 in triple doubles as well at five. Like he was a stalwin. And again, the wing scarcity thing piece of this find a 6’7 dudes that can do a little bit of everything. It’s okay. I’m scrambling now because though I needed a four and it was Hawford and Twan that I was like, one of these guys are going to fall to me and Spoon’s like, I got to go. But here’s like these two. They’re off the board, baby. Um, so pivoting here and I’m scrolling through lists of like, you know, successful power forwards at the Celtics. not finding uh much that I like. But here’s someone I had on my board. Uh do I want to do this? Dominic Wilkins had a little cup of coffee with the Celtics. I think I mean he and if you look at his averages when he when he joined the Celt like he was he was very effective in his short time in Boston and I think in the modern era you could slide an older thicker Dominic Wilkins over to the four. Is this an accept? Does this fit within the framework Jake? Is this an acceptable pick? I think you can fit it in there. But, you know, I I will say a great example of a post Achilles uh recovery is late career dominant Wilkins. I almost have to make the pick for the vibes. Yeah, I I’m fine with it. As long as we don’t get to um you’re not putting prime Dominic Wilkins, you’re getting Celtic Dominicans. That version of Dominic Wilkins like was very good and little older, little thicker, a little more suited to the modern like stretch four spot, I think. So, I think I think that’s the pick. I think I’m going to lock it in. Okay. Okay. I’ll allow it. I’ll allow it. Solid pick. All right. All right. I’m looking. All right. We’re getting kind of I basically have to go at the five and my heart wants to pick Greg Steamma. I mean, that’s that’s a given. However, I’m a little self-conscious of my modernday shooting. So, when I think of all time C’s or alltime centers, I’m leaning towards two guys, both can’t really stay on the floor in terms of injury concern, but I need the spacing for Hondo and male to operate. Uh, so I’m going to go KP. I’m I’m going Porzingis as my stretch five. Um, but healthy Porzingis, not mystery illness Porzingis. Give me game one finals Porzingis. I mean, it’s a huge caveat. be very I need to be very specific. Um, but I just look at it like when he was at his peak, it took this team to an unbeatable level. And I think that’s what I’m going for. I’m going for the ultimate cheat code that can unlock everybody and take them to a level that my opposition just simply cannot match. Knowing that I’m only going to have him for like 50 games before he dies of a mystery illness. I’m still going KP because I I look at my roster. I I want the shooting. I want the mismatch. Good free throw shooter, good rim protection um to help out, you know, with uh with male there as the Twin Towers. Uh so I’m going KP. I think I think you just undermined the integrity of your entire roster. I know, but I had you didn’t need to didn’t need to do it at all. Um, but I mean because like who what other big men I guess there’s one there’s one obvious one. Um, but I I don’t know if we want to spill spill picks if anyone else needs a center. I mean, show the board. I I’ll say the other person I was considering. I’m not picking a center. So, okay. Yeah. Yeah. Go on. Um, if unless you’re also not picking a center. Um, for me it was between KP and Walton as my as my starting center because I want Walton’s passing and all that stuff, but I I look at my roster and I need the spacing. I need the three-point shooting, which is why I ultimately leaned KP. Both are injury risks, but, you know, I’m not going to let this recent playoff run spoil his upside and his, you know, what he brought when he was healthy and on the floor. Yeah, you you did back yourself into a corner a little bit with this one because as as as much as I love Bill Walton, I mean again two two injuryprone guys, but at least with Bill Walton, we can point to the 86 season whereas with uh Pausing, you have to say game one of the NBA finals. No, but he was still good in 24. Like let’s not I know we know I know we’re all a little upset with how things ended, but like you have to remember it was a religious experience watching the 24 team at their peak. Correct. And and knowing that we had come up short so many years prior to that and then Brad was like we need this guy as our missing piece and then he turned out to be the missing piece in terms of his skill set. I mean he he helped get them over the hump so I had to to ride with him. And while Bill Walton did play 80 games in 85 86 season, he only played 19 minutes a night. So it was very much like can you even draft a guy if they were doing fiveman lineups that’s only giving you uh 19 minutes a night? That’s a tough Andy just feels like a good vibes guy. Like I feel like him and male would get into some [ __ ] you know, off the court. They’d bond. He just seems like a good guy to be around. I love it. Yeah, it’s it’s probably a little bit indicative of like how we feel about KP overall given like how far he’s slid in this draft cuz like from a skill set perspective, healthy KP like really is deserving of top 10 I think but just some some bad taste in the mouth I think unfortunately but you’re right Greeny like that that 2024 season game one Nicks like he went off for 30 points in his debut I think the highest scoring debut for a Celtic ever. Uh, incredible religious experience. Absolutely. Um, Jay, we probably need to expedite these next few picks. Uh, who you got for your fifth player? Yeah. So, I need a little uh shot creation at the back end here. And I thought that was the biggest takeaway making my big board is that the Celtics had so many good guards. Like we’ve got like Derek White, Drew Holiday, it uh Dennis Johnson, uh Sam Jones, obviously Campusi Shaven’t mentioned Shaman. I’m between two guys here. Jojo White and Kyrie Irving and because like Jojo when he needed to he could scale up like when he was with the Celtics he in the regular season never averaged more than 20 points per game but in the year that he won finals MVP 23 points a game four rebounds five assists 44 minutes a night like the dude was just money allstar two-time all NBA and then the other guy I’m thinking about is Kio having. And if we’re going to give Chrispers a bit of a pass here, whoa, whoa, whoa. I mean, you’re dealing with the devil and you’re dealing with a nice guy that got sick. Got sick. Uh, he didn’t step on lucky. Yeah, we’re talking about Celtic Kyrie. Can’t bring that bad karma onto his team. Listen, this is Celtic Kyrie. And talk about religious experiences. that 16game winning streak when after Haywood went down and it was Kyrie, Tatum, Jaylen, Marcus going absolute nuts. Like that dude was doing like special special stuff. Alas, I will not be bringing Kyrie Irving onto the team for vibes purposes. I will be bringing Jojo White, seventime all-star, finals MVP for the Boston Celtics in the 7273 season. Um, and that’s I mean, [ __ ] we’re we’re going to the title here, fellas. That’s I have to say one of the one of the greatest blessings of my life growing up was uh him Jojo and his wife sat behind uh where my dad and I’s season tickets were. Uh they were the row behind us. He was just such a cool dude. Always would chat it up. everyone around him in the stands like some guy I know in 2025 the term aura is like wildly overplayed but like just being that close to Jojo White was like you were just you were in awe of who he was as just a human so I love the pick for you it’s you know he’s I love the pick for you I mean he’s more he was more of a scorer you know early in his years you know in the early you know when he was making the allars in the 70s but another guy Iron Iron Man 82 games year in year out. Availability is the best availability and he’s, you know, an all-timer. So, and I can’t I can’t get out of here without mentioning the hero of the triple overtime finals game all time. Triple overtime against the Suns. Uh 33 points, nine assists, 60 minutes he played in uh in that game. And my so my grandpa and uncle went to that game and in classic Papa Eisenberg fashion my dad didn’t get wasn’t there wasn’t a third ticket for my dad so he’s watching it at home and cuz he was the youngest of the of the siblings he’s watching it at home and as the third overtime ends in walk through the door my grandpa and uncle because they left at the end of regulation to beat the traffic. Oh my god. Oh my gosh, dude. I would not tell a single soul that story. I would take that to the grave. I was laughing. Yeah, that’s like bad karma on the podcast. You might have lost some credibility. You might have to change the game. They won the game. So, if anything, they did the they did them a favor by changing the energy inside inside the stadium. So, arguably the opposite. Um, I subscribe to that. That’s an amazing piece of first of the floor lore as well, Jake. I’m amazed that we’ve gone this far without hearing that. That’s incredible. Um, now we were thinking about doing sixth man. I think we’re probably out of time, so you’ll just have to imagine who the the the best addition to each team is, but Sam with the final pick of the draft. Who have you got for us? I didn’t know if I was going to get the pick. I was like, this might And that’s it. Sam’s got to roll out four players in this uh tournament. That’s right. I I am so happy because I was afraid it would bite me in the ass. I almost picked him last time. I didn’t do it. I’m going to take Reggie Lewis. He was going to be my I had him. Just think he could be a great secondary bucket getter next to Pearson. Isaiah, I mean, not to say that KG can’t get his own, too. Just think he fits really well. Good length. Was meant to be the next guy up before tragedy struck. I think he’s a good fit on the squad. Very happy with it. Yeah, that’s I I He was a late addition. Uh but again to the wing the the the der of wings like another six foot seven dude they can get buckets like um what could have been I mean he was he was the chosen one you know obviously you know later bias became the next chosen one but Reggie Lewis I mean all signs pointed to franchise cornerstones so at the last pick of the draft I’d say that’s pretty insane value pretty good uh I’ve got I just list off some guys uh that didn’t get chosen you know Bill Shaman Silus Cedric Maxwell finals MVP Casey Jones Satch like there’s obviously a plethora of guys Bill Wat like there’s names out there where like you know they were good but for whatever reason like just because of the the age group that we’re in the era that we we’ve followed like you just don’t have a connection with them and despite the accolades despite the stats and the proven winningness it’s like it’s difficult to to add those names. I think that’s what I found anyway. Yeah. I love it. I feel like I love this from RJ. Can you show the uh the Give us the board. Yeah. RJ’s fiveman team of everybody not picked. Tiny Archer Bald, Paul Silus, Cedric Maxwell, Marcus Martin, Rob Williams were on my board as well. Uh 2022 Rob I think. Yeah, I look at mine. My uh the older demographic may lean more towards me. I think I’m George the sort of assuming they would develop into the modern uh play style. Um, I do like Spoon’s team. I think he’s got good balance, but I don’t know. The the Horford Twine back toback really just threw me off because I was gonna I was taking Twine and I was going to move male to the to the center, but wasn’t meant to be. Obviously, you’ve got Horford out there, so your defense is always going to have a relatively high floor, but um Antoine Walker playoff defense. Uh Bob Koozie. Um we’re we’re we’re hunting him every possession. Lovely. That’s true. We are hunting him on the perimeter. That’s true. Yeah. So, um I think from that perspective maybe like if in in the weak link era that we find ourselves in in 2025, uh I think you know there’s like who you know you’re not attacking anyone on on on Jake’s team over here. Um same same could be said as as Green’s team and and Ben’s team. I mean this is the beauty of being the Celtics is you can five team guys nasty next week. Yeah, we got a lot of off season left. We can definitely do the Hornets all time draft. We might need less people on that show. I don’t think Bill Russell is letting me lose. Grant Williams didn’t make it. Yeah, true. Yeah. Yeah. Look, Bill Russell’s not letting me lose this tournament. So, my confidence is like solely instilled in him and uh and Jake and Sam like really the roster’s across the board. I think if I have time, what I would like to do is create a roster with each of these teams in 2K and then sim that lead and then add add the findings to the the comments section and into the description as well. Also, if you’re listening to the show, um I’ll add a link to a screenshot of the rosters rather than me rattle off like 30 names. Now, you can just click on that link in the description and have a quick glance of what the final teams are. Um, but this has been a lot of fun. Jake, any any parting thoughts? I would say to take that a step further, you create the teams and then we all have a 2K tournament. Yeah, let’s do a tournament. Yeah, I stream that live. Now we’re talking. Yeah, maybe in Vegas next year. Are you able to like in 2K do like all time team roster building? Is that even a thing? I don’t think we’d be able to make that work online. I think you can only do that like offline couch mode. Oh, you can. Okay, cool. All right. Back in the day, my friends and I, we would do it and we would have a spreadsheet like this, and then someone would make the rosters offline, make a league, and make that the roster. That’s awesome. Listen, I’m already committing to it. If someone wants to put in the work, cuz I’m not going to do it, but if somebody else wants to do it, I will participate. I got to buy I got to buy a PS5, but it still be totally worth it. Yeah, it’s crossplatform as well, so whether you’re Xbox or PS5, uh we can we can make that happen. That sounds like fun. All right. Well, watch this space for that one. Uh see, we’re planning things. This is how the off season is so good on this show. We constantly get uh you know new fireworks uh in the works and new things coming. So that’s going to do it for this one as I fill a buster and look for my my closing notes here. Um Sam Lef France Dan Greenberg, a pleasure as always. Uh thank you so much for joining us. Before we go to both of you, anything you want to plug? Just the blog. Hit me up. Hit me up on Twitter. Read the blog. Interact like always. I’m surprised you’re not at the beach house this weekend. Oh yeah, I’m a little old for that. I feel like it’s, you know, I’m I’m in bed by like 9:00. I’m old now. So, you know, it’s uh it’s it’s entertaining though. So, everyone tune in to that as well if you’re into some trashy reality TV. I mean, it’s it’s revolutionary, but maybe uh my ASU days, not not so much now in my washed up stuff. That’s okay. Sam, uh how about them Celtics? Every day we got new stuff. Jack and I are up on YouTube putting out new content. We have a video tomorrow, video Saturday, pod Sunday, full pods Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday. And again, stuff on the channel every single day. And Hardwood Houdini, Jack and I are there writing stuff to with Bobby Kitzky. Love it. Love it. Sounds good, guys. And links uh to all of the above are in the description. Thanks again. Shout out to everyone in the comments. Thanks for watching or listening later. Spoony, Jake, love your work, guys. Until next time, go Selts. [Music]

I’m digging Sam’s team. IT4’s weakness are covered by some length and strength in Lewis, Pierce, KG and Parish.
Pierce and KG can secondary playmake.
Don’t mind Greenie’s team either.
Lmao love you guys imitating Tommy ejaculating
"Would Ime put Bill Russell in drop coverage?!" – Greenie
🤣🤣🤣 Just the best lol
Between spooney and Sam’s teams.
Spooney lowkey doesn’t have the best defensive team but guarding his team 5 out, with Larry Bird on the court too and company has the be the best offense far and away when actually playing together.
I’m going spooney
Sam team is good but that team doesn’t have anyone as GREAT as bird or Cousy
Wheres bill walton
Self admitted JB stan here but Cousy is like the Jimmy Hendrix of Point Guards.
Jb is like …. maybe Frampton?
Edit…
No, he is the Steve Miller of wings.
Fun video. It would be so hard for me when it comes to heart vs head. These are some tough choices. Great stuff guys.
No Cornbread, but we have D. Wilkins who was a shell of himself by the time he came to Boston.
