The Miami Heat’s FINAL Trade Offer For Kevin Durant REVEALED

The Miami Heat had an opportunity to get Kevin Durant and did not take it. Should they have or was the price simply too high? What about the Phoenix Suns? Did they make the wrong move in accepting the Houston Rockets trade offer instead of the package they could have gotten from Miami? I’m Trevor Lane. This is the Basketball Bulletin. Make sure you subscribe right here. Joined by Donnie Freeman. Donnie, one of the biggest moves of the NBA summer was the Kevin Durant trade going to the Houston Rockets. I think he’s a great fit there. It was Jaylen Green, Dylan Brooks, and the draft pick that turned into Common Muatch, the 10th pick in the draft that wound up going to Phoenix. But Miami was hot in pursuit of Kevin Durant as well. They’ve been wanting to get him for a while and had a fairly compelling offer on the table and maybe had the ability to actually get the deal done had they just been willing to kick in a little bit more. How do you like Kevin Durant’s perspective fit in Miami before we get into whether or not the Heat kind of blew it here? I was gonna say that’s that’s a story of the Miami Heat right there. Getting getting right there, you know, now pulling up close, man. So, it’s it reminds me of Danny, man. But that’s the story. But Danny, um, but I I think KD would have fit awesome. I think that the Miami Heat are missing a guy to kind of be their number one option to be their top guy there. Um, and that would obviously slot in with KD right there. And he’d be great alongside Bam. I think they’d be a nice defensive front court and all that, too. And I think they’d have a nice twoman game. And then you could also mix in Hero. And I think KD would have fit perfectly, but ultimately it doesn’t wind up in Miami. Yeah, agreed. So here’s here’s what we’ve got here. Um with per source with direct knowledge, the Heat were willing to offer um Andrew Wiggins, Terry Roier, uh Highmith, Haywood Highmith, Haime Hawz the 20th pick in the draft for Durant and Cody Martin. And according to Shams, the Suns wanted Hawz, Yoic. So Nicola Yovic included as well. Highmith the 20th pick. And remember, Highmith just got salary dumped yesterday. And we talked about that Heisman just got salary dumped uh with a second round pick. They paid a second I’m still shocked that they he did that that they guys were saying in the comments that like maybe they really like Kai Jones. They’re linked to a couple other guys that they want to put in that spot. I still don’t love that they had to give up an asset to do this for an expiring deal that Brooklyn can probably flip. But yeah, they did do that. But if there is, yeah, if they take that roster spot and they fill it with a player that makes sense, that actually makes them better, okay, then I get it. Then the cost of opening that roster spot was a second round pick. But Highmith is the kind of guy that a lot of teams would want. But anyway, he got salary dumped, but he would have been in the deal. The 20th pick plus a pick swap. Now, the the 20th pick in the draft, obviously, that’s not as good as as common Mu as as the as the 10th pick. So when we talk about that and that was Yakosonas w up going with that with that 20th pick. Should Miami have pulled the if that was on the table should Miami have just pulled the trigger or do you think that what Barry Jackson is saying here that now Yoic and conspiracy Yakosonas need to work out to justify it because that’s essentially what Miami was not willing to put on the table. Does that then put a lot of pressure on Yoic and Yakosonas and where what should the Heat have done? Like should they have just said yes and we’ll take KD? Yeah. Well, I think you could look at it from both sides. Like for on on one hand, this is a lot in terms of just like actual depth that you’re giving up here, some young players, all that. Like you have to fill out an entire roster after pulling this trade off. Um, and so maybe you look at it from that perspective and say, well, is KD enough with us retooling around the big three of him, Harrow, and Bam? Uh, is that enough to get us to the promised land? And maybe you can make that argument for this season, but what about the following seasons, right? I do think that that would be something that they would be questioning and that’s part of why that may be a lot. But secondly, if you are the Suns, like I said, when we were talking about this previously, I kind of just value getting the 10th pick a lot and all that stuff. And if you’re Miami, do you want to like you’re selling low maybe on Hawz. You’re throwing in some other young guys that you’re trying to develop that you’re trying to hold on to as well like Yoic. Yeah. Are you interested in doing that? Right. That’s where it really is cuz nobody I don’t want to say nobody cares, but like the Highmith Rosier piece is kind of a wash or whatever. Right. But the Wiggins piece is a good player, right? He’s a good player as well. So you’re giving up that too. Quality up there. Is that a lot? Right. Forget forget contracts. Who would you rather have? Andrew Wiggins or Dylan Brooks? Uh I Brooks, I guess. I I think you can make an argument either. I don’t think it’s I don’t think it’s like I could go either way. I’d be happy. Exactly. That’s that’s the point is I think you could make an argument either way. Right. Uh both guys are are about Dylan Brooks is 30. I believe Wiggins is now 31 if I’m remembering correctly. Um but both guys about the same age. Both guys, oh, Wiggins is 30. So, both guys about the same age. Both guys uh both do similar things in terms of defensive wing. Now, they do it in different ways and we can talk about the versatility defensively. Andrew Wiggins, but Andrew Wiggins next season is going to cost a little over $10 million more than Dylan Brooks. Yeah, I would rather have Dylan if that’s the difference. Exactly. If that that be the difference. So, when I look at the offer here from uh from Miami, this first offer, Wiggins, Rosier, Highmith, Hawkins, and the 20th pick, I would do that if I’m Miami. If I’m the Suns, I think the Suns made the right decision in taking Dylan Brooks, Jaylen, and I hate the fit of Jaylen Green with Deon Booker, but I like K Muawatch enough to where I like the deal the Suns took better. Now, if you told me that the Heat were willing to put in Yovic plus a pick swap, okay, maybe that pushes it over the top. I think the Suns probably take that. like that one. But again, you run into that question for Miami of then do you want do you feel comfortable you lose not only your pick this year plus a pick swap in the future that could wind up mattering and you’re going to build a team out around Bamabio, Tyler Herro, Kevin Durant and not a whole lot else on the roster at that point. Now maybe you can still do the Norman Powell trade but do you find yourself in Mitchell still? You’ve got some of these guys. You’ve got some pieces. You’ve got some pieces. Kell wear obviously would be held out. So there’s there’s still some talent there but not a whole lot of depth. Um, yeah. Did Miami do the right thing or should they have built around a big three, a Bam, hero, and KD and then tried to give KD an extension and just say, “Okay, here we go.” and trust that BAM is the difference is the differentiator between the big three Miami would be building and the big three the Suns built because Bam’s skill set allows you to do a lot a lot of different things out there on the floor and it has a lot better fit with hero and KD than a Booker Beal and KD trio. Oh yeah, Bam’s extremely versatile. He can play a number of different ways on both ends of the court and he would absolutely be the differentiator between those two types of builds. And even with this, I don’t really mind so much the fit of Hero and KD either because you’re going to need one of those guys to have the ball at all times for the most part with this team. It’s not like they’ve got a ton of ball creation on this team. So the ball like that’s going to be fine. Like it’s not going to really be too much of a clash. I think it’s more of a problem when you got three perimeter players that all want the ball in their hands like it was with Phoenix. But I think you can make do with two of them at minimum. And if you’re Miami, like I said earlier, like I if you believe that you can build a championship team out of those three and on short notice, while you would retain some of the pieces, like we talked about a moment ago, on short notice, you believe you could do it. You should have done it. Yeah. Then potentially, yeah, if you if you really truly think that team could have turned around and especially this season where the East is missing a couple of big players, they could have done something, right? But it’s not only that. Like I think that when we say like the East is missing players and stuff like that, like you know it’s open, you still got to win against the West team that comes out. Like so do you do you look at it and say we’re better than or good enough to beat in a seven game series maybe if things go our way against OKC the defending championship uh team or the Rockets that would still even without KD still be one of the best teams in the Western Conference, right? like do you look at these other teams and say get us in a seven game and we could beat them with those three and then the depth around. I think that remains to be seen. I think you need a lot of things to go your way and you’d also still like I’ve been trumpeting this about KD all year any or offseason anyway with him in Houston. And I think he really needs to be paced. And so if you’re Miami, you don’t have you’re you’re going to try to rebuild the depth that you’d be giving up in this trade, but you’d also be trying to pace KD and get him to the playoffs in good health, not burned out. And that’s that’s that’s troubling. That’s hard to do, right? So we’ll see what happens with him in the Rockets, but I think that’s another layer to this. Absolutely. I’ll tell you where if Yoic looks really good next season, if Yakoson is turns out well, then obviously that will make Miami look even better. But the other piece to this is what else can Miami do with those pieces? What else could is there a trade at the trade deadline where Miami has been chasing that guy for a while? They try to get Dame, they try to get KD, they’ve tried to get they try to get Beal at one point. Yeah, they’ve been chasing that guy for a while. if they suddenly turn that like let’s say Giannis becomes available and they become the landing spot everybody will say thank god they didn’t do that Kevin Durant right yeah opportunity cost right there exactly so I’m not going to condemn Miami for not pulling the trigger on that deal because we need to see what they do instead with those pieces I don’t think it’s so much you need Yic to be become a star or anything or Yakashonas to become star or even an all-star adjacent player whatever be great if it happens, but it’s more what else does Miami wind up doing with those pieces instead of that KD trade. That is what will really determine whether or not they made the right decision. Are we expecting them to do anything with those pieces or I mean it’d be nice if they got Giannis, but like are we I think that’s I think they will try to be in the mix for anybody they can find. Of course, they they tend to be. But uh what are they going to do with Tyler Herro’s contract moving forward? Are they going to bank on cap space then being a player in free agency or are they going to go try to make a move right now? And that’s I do expect them to be active and exploring both those paths and that Tyler Hero extension whether or not that happens. I think that will be telling in terms of what they’re trying to do. I agree with you. We’ll see what happens ultimately. But yeah, I don’t necessarily know exactly like we spent last video talking about what the what the plan is here. But I don’t I’m not too mad at them for not pulling this trade off though. Like I said, I think you could look at it from multiple ways where it’s like, “Oh, well, we should have got Katie.” And I’m sure that a lot of Heat fans are going to feel that way, especially because they’re always in the mix for these guys and never pull the trigger. And and fans have been pretty upset about that. Um, but I can’t really be all too mad about this given the fact that again there’s the potential opportunity cost and then like I said, you’re giving up a lot. You have to have a breaking point in trade negotiations. And if you want to say, oh well, Yoic was the breaking point or what should he have been? Is he really that good? But when you start stacking up assets, there has to be a point where you say enough and you have to hold the line. And even if that means you lose the player, you have to be willing to do it because you might open up other opportunities down the road. And that’s what the Heat had to do. Had the the Suns been willing to do that first deal, Wiggins, Roier, Highmith, Hawz 20, cool. I I do that. If I’m Miami, I move forward. But you had to draw the line somewhere. Ultimately, I think the Suns made the right decision. I also think the Miami Heat made the right decision. I also think the Houston Rockets made the right decision. What a concept, Donnie. Today’s NBA, I think in this case, all three parties made the correct decision. And we will see if that’s proven to be true or not. Yeah. And initially the reports were about like where and stuff and I was much more forgiving on that like you know where it’s like, oh, wear was one that they were targeting in that trade and all that stuff back then. It would have been the sun should have taken that. I like Killawware a lot. Well, Miami was holding the line at Wear that they were saying that and you know and you know with with uh Phoenix, they kind of just had a bunch of bigs dumped on them out of nowhere anyway cuz it’s like they pull off the mark trade and they already had Nick and then they got the Molly watch. It’s just like they kind of just came up out of nowhere with all these big. So I do wonder if they would have still continued their pursuit anyway uh for wear or something like that. But yeah, that was the sticking point initially. But um Yovic would would be a nice piece for them for sure. And and and it remains to be seen what he can turn into. I wonder if he’ll have uh enough minutes to develop the way that they would like him to, but I I like I said, I question what Miami is doing just because I don’t know if they’re going to be in position to try to be one of these contending teams. And if it’s not fully clear, you don’t need to go out and get a win now piece like KD. Like maybe if you still had Jimmy on this team and you still were able to swing a trade for KD, that would be entirely different for sure. Like like I’d say go in right now, what are you doing? Like because you have a you’d have an interesting window of a couple years where you’d have these guys plus Jimmy and KD. That’d be insane. Yeah. I that if Jimmy was still on the team and you had Jimmy and Bam and Hero and and you know obviously then you don’t have Wiggins to put in the trade. So the math changes of course but if Jimmy were still on the team even if it was just you were doing something around Jimmy and Bam. Okay. Right. Then you could say we’re going all in. KD Jimmy Bam check ball. Let’s go. That would change the the the dynamic. Oh that would be spicy. KD Jimmy Bam just gave me Okay. So like it’s not going to last long. But it just gave me chills though. That that could be a finals team in these. But then again, we said the same. We said Embiid Paul George could have been a finals team in the East had they stayed healthy. We know what happens when guys get get older, too. They they start breaking down and get injured. But um everybody give us your thoughts in the comments down below. Did the Miami Heat do the right thing or should they have pulled the trigger? Should they have thrown in Nicola Yovic and Kasparis Yakosonas to get the deal done and land Kevin Durant? Give us and a swap and a swap. Can’t forget about that. Let us know. 1. Miami’s front office is just dumb and has had multiple years of doing detrimental damage to their team by being unwilling to negotiate fairly.

  2. Trade hero and get a dependable number one option. Hero is skilled but he isn’t an organizational leader meaning he doesn’t make others better

  3. KD must be licking his chops right now, thanking his guardian angels he's not in Miami. 😅

  4. I don't like the fit for KD in Miami had Miami given up that Jovic, Wiggins+ other wings package.
Without those grindy wings, KD would be asked a lot more to play as a 3, and at this stage in his career, KD should definitely play more as a 4, imo.

His fit on the rockets makes a lot more sense because of all the rangey wings they have that will do all the dirty work and make his life easier on the defensive side.

  5. Phx knew what they had. Hollow 26 pts a game. Aging injury prone star who was going to cost too much yet provided zero leadership zero mentorship and had super thin skin.
    Glad he is gone.
