NEW LOOK HAWKS vs KNICKS – Jordan CLARKSON – Kristaps PORZINGIS – Road to NBA 2K26
Looks like a lopsided matchup, but anything can happen in the NBA, Grant. That is the truth. I mean, that’s why they play the games. One guy gets hot, a team gets cold. That’s all it takes to swing the entire outcome of a game. And now the Atlanta Hawk starters. Reese and Johnson. They’re the forwards. Trey Young out there with Dyson Daniels. And it’s Porzingis in at the five roaming the paint. The shot by Johnson. No good. I can’t believe he missed that three. Regardless, that’s not a shot the defense should be given. And it’s going to be out of bounds. New York will have another go. And now it’s time to take another view of that huge swat. And that kind of rejection early on energizes your squad. The coaching staff just loves this kind of hustle. [Applause] Shot from the inbound and that one off the back of the rim and in. And here are the Hawks now. Gives us a chance to catch up with Alli Leforce. Earlier I spoke with Mike Brown. I asked him what makes Chris Porzingis such a great player. He said look at him. He’s over 7 feet. He’s just a huge guy. Chris Stafs has serious skill on offense and defensively that size can really be a factor. He’s a two-way problem. It’ll be interesting to see how they play him tonight. Good job there, Ally. Thanks. Courageous play by Young. I mean, he goes inside and gets past the contact to his shot. Brunson taking his time here. Oh, it’s blocked by Porzingis. It’s Daniels with a drive. And you watch Tyson Daniels on the floor, coach. He’s everywhere on defense. Yeah, Brian, he’s one of the best guys disrupting offenses and getting deflections. He gets his hands in passing lanes. Effort like that will always find minutes. That free throw misses. Well, Grant, all the high hopes Knicks fans have had in recent years, they have finally come to fruition. Yeah, it really was good to see the Knicks have a great campaign last year. From the players to the coaches to the front office and the fans, they’ve pressed all the right buttons. [Applause] And the second free throw is good. Coach, when you talk about the Atlanta Hawks, you got to start with Trey Young. One of the most exciting players to watch in the NBA, Brian. He can shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor. He’s a great ball handler and one of the most creative passers in the game. Here’s Reese and stolen by Brunson. And he loss it up top and it’s powered home by Towns. And this is the chemistry Towns has with his guys. He recognizes when to go for Ali Oops. I love it. Outside Johnson. About two minutes gone by in the first quarter. Young can’t hit. Given his range, you’d expect him to capitalize on that opening down low. And a big finish by Robinson. Willing passers, unselfish play. You have to appreciate this kind of offense. Atlanta’s gone one for three from beyond the arc. Outside Porzingis. Pass to Daniels. Here’s Reese from deep. Johnson. Atlanta again missing. The Knicks have gone three of six from the floor. Three-pointer Bridges. They get it again. Towns. And there’s the rejection. Yeah, that was great job on defense from Daniels. He knows how to distract shooters and you got to be in awe of incredible defensive efforts like this. I mean, letting them know up front that he’s on the hunt tonight and eager to knock away shots. I love it. And it’s Mike Brown calling timeout here. A moment to rest and confer on the game plan. Offensively, Carl Anthony Towns is one of the most well-rounded big men in the league, Grant. Yeah, maybe in league history. BA, he’s an elite three-point shooter, postcore, and his passing is severely underrated. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] And a little over two and a half minutes gone here in the first. Back to Anobi. Let’s go with a three. Tries again. And Porzingis with the block. Great play by Porzingis. Love seeing the zinger engaged on D. Here’s Daniels out of Nobi covering. He was all alone on that one. Young’s got five now. Now, you want to get him going as soon as possible. Great way for him to start this game. Yeah, and I’ll tell you what, if he gets into a good rhythm early, watch out. Robinson. Oh, he took a hard foul on the shot. So, he’ll head to the line to shoot a pair. Chris tops Porzingis picks one up. These are his first free throws of the game. Shooting two. That free throw no good. Well, Grant, one thing about this Knicks team, they have a clear identity. Yeah, they have the mentality of their city, New York City. playing the game with passion and in-your-face attitude. And of course, these Knicks leave it all out on the floor. [Applause] And he’s good on the second. Despite ups and downs, the Atlanta Hawks have remained in the hunt season to season. Stan, well, Brian, this team has a lot of resilience. They’re scrappy. They’re hardwork. and it’s helped them stay on the margins at least of the playoff picture. Well, coach, we know how good Young is offensively, but he gets heavy criticism for his defense. Yeah, look, and at 61, 164 lbs. He has some obvious limitations, Brian, but he’s shown improved effort as a defender, and it shows in his defensive rating. And you have to have that scoring ability on the floor. Free throw is good. Young will grant aside from making the East Finals in 2021. How would you assess Trey Young’s teams? Well, they’re always solid offensive teams, but Trey is the type of player that you need to surround with defensive-minded guys and he hasn’t really had that. Josh Hartz checked in for New York and both free throws good for Young. Well, he’s been very good at the line and we all know free throws can make or break you in the end. Back to Brunson to the middle. Double team on Towns. Hart from long range nails it from beyond the arc. Yeah, and for Towns great awareness at the offensive end. Here’s Daniels. Outside Young. Nice move. Robinson with the block. They retain possession. And that one’s good. Porzingis. Knicks trail by three. Now Brunson. [Applause] Towns. Right side. Double team on Towns. Robinson. Passes to Towns. No good from outside. Atlanta’s gone two of five from deep. Young from long range and the three-pointer goes. Young’s got 10. This is where Young most resembles Steph Curry. Both have range almost out to half court. Brunson passes to Towns. Tried to come right back with a three of his own, but it’s no good. Here’s Daniels. Robinson defending and he was fouled while in the act of shooting. So he’ll take two free throws. And out on the wings, Zach Rezes has so many things scouts are looking for these days. Yeah, BA. This guy has tremendous potential as a two-way threat. Great length, good athleticism, and his jump shot could be elite. [Applause] Free throw is good. Young and Trey Young’s attitude on the floor is so striking. He’s got this unbreakable edge to him. He’s super competitive and is ready to scrap with you. [Applause] And both free throws good for Young. [Applause] Now here’s Brunson and we’ll have a timeout called by Mike Brown. He wants to review the game plan. Yeah, hoping to tap into something that’ll get them clicking. Yeah, they just have to be more patient. Less forcing and more passing. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] Heat. Heat. The Hawks making a switch here. Alexander Walker’s checked in. [Applause] Hart passes to Robinson and a fast break now for the Hawks. Alexander Walker with the bucket. What a way to begin this game. Dominating at both ends of the floor. Obviously, guys, brilliant coaching, a perfect game plan. Now, here’s Towns. Back to Brunson. The shot to stop the run. That one’s good. And it’s Towns with the assist. Brunson’s got five points. Pretty much the second Brunson gets the ball, he’s into motion. And that’s how it’s done. Daniels passes to Johnson. Young from long range. It’s hauled in by Robinson. Robinson’s got four rebounds now. Pass to Brunson. And he was camped in the lane there. He gets a 3second call. [Applause] And it’s time to take another look at that powerful block. Oh my. Oh my. And that was textbook defense positioning himself well to send it back. The Hawks lead by seven. Outside, Alexander Walker. Young with it. Brunson defending. Porzingis with a screen on Brunson. Robinson with a steal. And he’s going for the lob. Oh, they pick off the pass. Here’s Brunson. Basket’s good. He’s got seven inside. Brunson is pretty deadly. Just dropping his shot in outside. Alexander Walker Hart against Young [Applause] Hart with the defensive effort. Well, they know he can finish at the rim, but the defense did just enough to force the miss. Towns finds Hart. Back to Towns. Brunson against Young and they double up Brunson and Porzingis with the block. Pass to Young now shooting 50% for the game. He’s four for eight. All right, guys. What’s your take on the hustle stats for the Hawks? Wow, those early blocks are key. They are intimidating their opponents and making them hesitant. And we got to also mention their intensity on defense. So far, I mean, the number of steals they’ve collected has been substantial. And New York has possession after the Hawks picking up a basket just moments ago. Clock at two. Hard can’t hit. Robinson and a big finish by Robinson. Just great energy on the offensive glass. That’s exactly how you cut into a lead. Boy, a slam like that is sure to give him a spark. Now, here’s Porzingis. outside Alexander Walker over Hart. The shot by Alexander Walker. No good. And so it’s Brunson with it. He brings it up for New York. Trailing by five. Alexander Walker grabs the board. Yeah, you expect him to make those. Good look. Just couldn’t find the mark. Outside Johnson. There’s a screen by Johnson. There’s Young with the three. Towns with a rebound. The Knicks shooting only 37% early. Hart passes to Robinson. Towns left side 16 ft out. Good on the shot. It’s easy money for Towns from 15 to 18 ft. Atlanta leading by three outside Porzingis. Pass to Daniels. Outside Johnson the three. The Knicks with the rebound. Surprising to see him miss here, but they’ll be happy with that shot in most possessions. Time now to hear from our reporter Ally Leforce. Well, after some down years in Dallas, Chris Porzingis said, “I really checked myself. From that point on, I started building my game back up. Sometimes when you’re younger, your physical abilities might already be there, but your mental is not. Once that all clicks, that’s when you’ve got something out. That’s a good way to think of it. Thanks, Ally. And Quinn Snider decides to call timeout. He’s going to gather the troops and talk it over. [Applause] [Applause] Reese, he’s checked in for Canard. [Applause] pass to Riza Kongmu. A screen on Hart. Here’s Buffkin. McBride covers and yeah, he he still was moving at the point of contact. And the fans love seeing incredible moments on defense like that block. What a powerful rejection. He’s not one of them to get an advantage in this competitive game. Here’s Buffkin. McBride covers. It’s stolen by Clarkson. Excellent defensive instincts leading to the quick reaction. Hart from long range and that one’s good. That makes him two for three. And a chance to catch up on some numbers here. The hustle stats for the Knicks. Well, so far they’ve done a great job of reading the offense and repeatedly putting themselves in the right place to interrupt the play and force turn. They’re also managing to make lots of trouble for their opponent in transition. Right away they’re finding points on the break. The officials were right on top of that one. Atlanta shooting their seventh and eighth free throw attempts of the game. [Applause] First one falls for him. [Applause] [Applause] That one falls. So he hits both of them. New York trailing. McBride passes to Clarkson. [Applause] Pass to Hart. Towns left side [Applause] and he’ll draw the foul. He’ll head to the line for two. And it is so tough to disrupt town shots. I mean, when he shoots, he’s so disciplined and locked in. H so impressive. This is his first opportunity at the line this evening. He had a really rough game at the line last time out. Struggled to get anything to drop. He’s off on the first. And at nearly 7 ft tall, you don’t expect Towns to do some of the things he does like drain threes and make savvy passes, but he’s a modern big man. Jaylen Brunson, he’s checked in for McBride. Canard, he’s checked in for the Hawks. and he sinks the second. The Hawks have gone seven of 16 so far. They set the pick. The three from Riza. Hart pulls it in. New York shooting 43% to get this one underway. Kicks it out to Clarkson. Fires for three. That’s in. Coming off an assist from Towns. Towns has got three assists now in this one. A minute 31 left in the first quarter here. Pass to Aangu. [Applause] Always a nice way to start. Makes his first one. We see this every night. He has the skill and versatility to keep a defense guessing. And coach, with a Kongwoo adding a three to his game, it’s hard to keep him off the floor now. It is, Brian. And he can do a lot for a team when he plays. He can now spread out the floor. He can guard multiple positions. But the main thing a Kong Woo does is he is all over the glass. The three is up. Clarkson grabs a miss. Here’s New York. They’re on an 18-6 run. We’ll stand. Former second round pick Jordan Clarkson. He’s averaged doubledigit scoring every season. Yeah, Brian. He’s done it primarily as a sixth man. He actually already ranks among the top 10 in all-time points scored off the bench and he’s still moving up the ladder. It is interesting that he prefers to come off the bench. Yes, some guys do. First one falls. And at this stage of his career, Clarkson really knows his role. A highly effective scorer who looks to decimate defenses. New York making a switch here. McBride’s checked in. And so Clarkson nails both of them. If they play this right, they can go two for one. Yeah, they really have to work the clock right now. Pass to Alexander Walker. Launches it. Drops in the three. Alexander Walker’s got five points. And that’s what they want to do. Get him open looks early. Now here’s Hart. The D’s right on him. Here’s Brunson. Releases from the wing and drills it. 11 points in the game. It’s those kind of passes that bring up the entire team’s confidence. Pass to Riza. Akagu. A screen on Hart. Here’s Rizay. It’s tipped and they get it back. Hey, if you can’t block it, sending him to the line can be the next best thing. It’s his first trip to the line. [Applause] [Applause] They throw good. A Kongwoo. [Applause] So one for two that time at the stripe. fires away from way outside. It’s been all about Jaylen Brunson for New York. 11 points in the quarter. He’s on fire. And don’t go far. We’ll be right back. [Applause] [Applause] and getting it going again here in the second quarter. Fairly close game so far. And from what we’ve seen from New York, what’s your take so far? Well, it looks like hitting the boards hard was an emphasis of their attack. They knew how valuable it was to do so. Yeah, we’re not surprised by this. These guys work hard and they are physical. [Applause] The Knicks with the lead. All right, this is how the floor looks for the Hawks starting the second. We got Reese. He’s out there with Nquille Alexander Walker. Luke Canard out there with Oneka Kongu and it’s Buffkin in at the point. And for the Hawks, they’re shooting about 43% on this one. Pass to Reza. Back to a Kongwoo. Oh, the dunk by Aong Woo. For a center, he’s maybe undized, but his ability to get in the air to make a play balances that out. Now, here’s Brunson. Hits the rim on the way in and the bucket is good. Brunson’s got 13. And man, you got to appreciate how efficient Brunson is. I mean, he takes and makes high percentage shots. The basket counts and one. He’ll go to the line. A chance at a three-point play. That’s a move you won’t see many guys make. Impressive stuff. And Mquille Alexander Walker has built a role around defense and activity, coach. Yeah, Brian. He’s started to understand that not everyone can be that superstar scorer and he’s carved out a role around hustle, but still capable of knocking down shots within the flow of the offense. and the free throw no good. Well, Grant, you played on some very tight-knit teams. Talk to us about chemistry. Well, BA, you know, in some sports, chemistry is not a big issue, but in basketball, it is huge. You have to trust and believe in your teammates and it has to be a unit, not five separate individuals. And it’s Clarkson missing. Clarkson’s gone one for three on the night. Here’s Alexander Walker. And that misses. That would have put him up. The Knicks have gone just one of three to begin the second quarter. [Applause] Down low. And it’s Clarkson missing for Atlanta. They’ve got two of three shots to go in the second. Pass to Buffkin. Back to Tophen. Now here’s a Kongwoo. Here’s Buffkin. The three is up. Clock at six. Parked it down low that time. Got hit with the 3second call. Gays checked in for the Hawks. Reese comes in for Alexander Walker. Here’s a courtyard by a kagu. His playmaking is something to watch. Threading that pass right in there. We’re now about 2 minutes into the second quarter [Applause] and the Hawks making a change here. Here’s Buffkin. McBride covers. Shot clock at six from the arc. Arc pulls it in. Arch got four rebounds in the game. Outside Brunson. There’s the three. The rebound by the Hawks. Canard on the wing. McBride covers. Second quarter play. Almost three minutes gone here. Knocks down the triple. And for the defense, that is a heart sinking moment when you see him that wide open from beyond the arc. Now here’s Hart. Six points for him. Here’s Clarkson. Sinks that one from the post. Clarkson has got seven. Good maneuver to get inside. Clarkson is sneaky. And so it’s Quinn Snder here calling timeout. He’ll take the opportunity to regroup. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Now, for those joining us now, we’re in the second quarter. About 3 minutes gone by and here’s Canard inside and he makes no mistake. Slam dunk and the lead just keeps changing hands five times already and we still haven’t gotten out of the first half. Clarkson against Canard. Rejected by a Kongwa. [Applause] Now Canard three-pointer. The offensive rebound. There’s a screen. Just five on the clock. Here’s Buffkin and the three off target. And so it’s Hart with it. He brings it up for the Knicks. They trail by one. to the inside and it goes as the official calls the foul. Count it and he’ll shoot one more at the line on the night. He’s two for two at the stripe. Robinson, he’s checked in for New York. Bridges comes in for McBride. Alexander Walker, he’s checked in for the Hawks. Rachie comes in for Buffkin. One shot. [Applause] And that one misses. Well, Stan, LeBron James is widely regarded as one of the most intelligent players in the league. Who else stands out to you as far as basketball IQ? Well, Brian, that’s a tough question. There’s so many of them. Nola Joic, Luca Donuch. There’s just so many intelligent guys in this league. Fans that think it’s all about athleticism don’t understand how intelligent the best players are. Now here’s Hart. Six points for him. Pass to Brunson. Jacks up a three. That one’s down for Brunson. Exchanging buckets from downtown. That’s been a staple of tonight’s game. Yeah, sometimes you get in a shootout like this, but you just hope that you can get a stop first. New York has gone one for three from downtown here in the second. Bridges passes to Clarkson. And here’s Brunson. Shoots over a Congu offline from the high post. Here’s Crerache. No made baskets yet. This one for three. First shot won’t go. Yeah, and the defense has really got to tighten up on him. I mean, he’s just too dangerous from the three-point line. Hart uses the glass to finish the layup. Now it’s a three-point Nick lead. An efficient facilitator. Clarkson gets the ball to the right guy. And so it’s Quinn Snider here calling timeout. I think right now he must be looking at some adjustments. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. Heat. [Applause] And some changes here for New York. Carl Anthony Towns has checked in for Robinson. And it’s Anobi in for Clarkson. Johnson, he’s checked in for Atlanta. Trey Young comes in for Crerachche. [Applause] Hawks trail by three. Pass to a Congu. [Applause] Now Johnson. He’s covered by Hart. Out of bounds. It’ll be New York’s ball and picked 20th back in 2021. Jaylen Johnson might end up being the steel of that draft coach. Well, look, Brian, when we see guys take a big jump like Johnson has, it’s usually because they have shot the ball better like he has. He’s really blossomed during his third year and still has plenty of room to grow. Robinson, he’s checked in for New York. Now, here’s Robinson. He’s got five. Towns with the ball and it’s Young P. Oh, he packs it down. That is incredible. And that’s a powerful man right there. Towns is never going to pass up a chance to finish with authority. Young with it. [Applause] Pass to Aong Wu to the paint. Here’s Johnson and count that. Two points and a chance for one more at the line. Well, credit the screen there, springing him loose for the finish. And he’s got his first opportunity at the line here tonight. Atlanta making some changes here. Porzingis has checked in for a Kongwoop. Rachie comes in for Alexander Walker and Daniels is subbed in for Canard. and Johnson. No good on that one. Knicks leading by three. Here’s Bridges. The rebound by Kichi. Well, if you have the space, you have to take that shot. He missed it, but he’s trying to keep the defense honest. Stan, you’re the son of a coach. Your dad was a great coach at the collegiate level. What was the best advice you ever received from him? Well, Brian, the one that has always stuck with me is he told me in my first season, if you think you’ve got all the answers, it’s only because you don’t know all the questions. And I think that’s true in everything, not just basketball. [Applause] Hawks trail by six. Here’s Daniels over to the left wing. shoots. Atlanta again missing inside and stolen by Porzingis. Pass to Young. [Applause] A kick out to Johnson. Four on the clock. Here’s Daniels and it’s New York with a rebound. Towns looking for an opening. Screen by Robinson down low and a big finish by Robinson. And though he has a scores mindset, Brunson willing to make the next pass. Hawks trail by eight. Now Young, he’s got 14. Pass to Porzingis. Shoots over Robinson and Porzingis gets it to go on the assist by Johnson. Porzingis has got his second basket. Now the Knicks with it. They’re on a 12 to4 run out to the right wing. Towns passes to Bridges outside Anobi. There’s the triple. Fires in the triple and the Knicks lead by nine. Yeah, making the smart pass there. I mean, Bridges doesn’t just hold the ball. Young the pass to Johnson. Screen by Young. [Applause] Johnson against Towns outside Corzingis and he can’t answer back. The three-pointer offline and the ball out of play. The Hawks will have it. Clarkson’s checked in for New York. Reese, he’s checked in for Atlanta. [Applause] Hawks trail by nine. Here’s Daniels. The Knicks with the rebound. Robinson’s got nine rebounds in the game. Boy, he’s getting it done. The shot by Towns. No good. And the Hawks shooting only 42%. [Applause] Pass to Young. Here’s Rezobi covering. [Applause] Here’s Reese. No points yet. Johnson a screen on Bridges. Six to shoot. Here’s Daniels. and he gets the bucket. So strong at the rim. That’ll serve Daniels well here in this league. Knicks leading by seven. And we’ll have a timeout called by Mike Brown. We might see him looking to make some tweaks to the strategy here. It may be a player’s league, but the coaches obviously play a big part as well. And this is when a coach earns his paycheck. Analyze the situation and give your players the information they need to succeed. Hello. Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] So, it’s the Knicks now. Anobi finds Robinson. You’re that are you? Pass to Anobi now. Towns. Clock at six. Oh, and he got fouled on his way up. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. That one on Johnson for a big Towns is an effective free throw shooter. You really can’t give him too many looks from the line. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. [Applause] And that one falls for Towns. And so Towns nails them both. Hawks trail by nine. Outside Young to the inside. Operating inside. Porzingis. One of the tallest guys in the league. Give Porzingis the ball there and just let him work. Clarkson passes to Robinson [Applause] and the foul is called. He missed it. So he’s got a couple of free throws coming his way. Chris stops. Porzingis picks one up. This will be his third trip to the free throw line. [Applause] Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. He misses the free throw. Akongu’s checked in for the Hawks. We got this. We got this. and no good on the second free throw. So 0 for two there outside Young and he’s going for the oop here. Oh the dunk by a Kongwoo. The pass, the catch, the slam. What a clean play, man. Absolutely jaw-dropping. Now here’s Clarkson. Nine points in the game. Bridges finds Towns. That three is off the mark. Hawks trail by five. Up top, Johnson. And so he draws the foul. Headed to the line to shoot a pair. And this is his second trip to the line tonight. [Applause] Free throw dropped for Johnson. New York making a switch here. Brunson’s checked in. and Johnson drops them both. Knicks leading by three outside Anobi. Back to Brunson. Pass to Robinson outside. Brunson. Atlanta with a rebound. Reese’s got six rebounds here tonight. Seems like this offense is being executed the way it was designed. Yeah, I’m sure coach couldn’t be happier with the results. [Applause] Brunson against Young. Bridges outside. [Applause] Young against Brunson. Three-pointer. Bridges. They get the rebound. Pass to Brunson. Robinson with it. Guarded by Au. Great find. Leading his teammate right to the bucket. Hawks trail by three. Here’s Daniels. Back to Young and stolen by Bridges. Now Clarkson puts up a three. It’s rebounded by Reese. Reys got his seventh rebound here tonight. Pass to Young from deep. Oh, the lethal three ball of Young. The deep ball from Young. He only needs a little wiggle room to feel comfortable firing away. 5second differential between the shot clock and game clock. Outside Anobi Bridge is outside. 17 seconds left to play in the first half of basketball. To the right side, six on the shot clock. Brunson passes to Clarkson. Shot is up and the jumper from the wing offline. And so it’s tied as we head to halftime and we’ll step away briefly but get you right back out there for the start of the third quarter right after the break. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] And we’re halfway through this one. Plenty of basketball left in a game that’s been a fairly even one. We’re seeing a tremendous game from Trey Young through the first two quarters and change. His perimeter shooting continues to be spot-on. Yeah, he’s been locked in tonight. Through the first two quarters, he’s been a huge factor from outside. [Applause] [Applause] And New York has possession. Their biggest lead of the game was nine. Jaylen Brunson is out there with Male Bridges. Then it’s OG Anobi. Then it’s Carl Anthony Towns. And it’s Robinson in at the center position locking down the middle. That’s the group starting the second half for Mike Brown. Pass to Daniels. Outside Young over Brunson to the left side wing. Johnson against Towns. Down to five on the shot clock. Here’s Young. Oh, Young with a physical finish inside. It’s another big night for Trey Young. A relentless score. Constantly testing your defense. Bridges outside. Here’s Towns and he connects with a jumper. Towns has got 11 points. A little over a minute gone here in the second half. Oh, a clear foul there on the missed shot. So, he’ll get a pair at the line. He’s got free throw attempts four and five here. [Applause] Shooting two. [Applause] Free throw dropped for Johnson. [Applause] [Applause] and Johnson drops them both. New York trailing now. Here’s Brunson. He’s got 16. Pass to Bridges and Anobi for three. It’s the trifecta. Six points for him. These teams just keep trading the lead. Yeah, you wonder what it’s going to take for someone to pull away. Young against Brunson. [Applause] launches a three and Young is good for three. Young’s got 22 points. He’s been so aggressive on offense and with the results, you understand why. Well, yeah. And the defense is going to have to respond to that and chase him off the ark. Robinson. Yes. And a nice assist from Brunson. Brunson’s got six assists here tonight. The defense couldn’t collapse quickly enough. The Hawks have got two of three from the floor in this third quarter. Well, I don’t think anyone predicted that Jaylen Brunson would become the player he is today, Grant. Yeah, that’s for sure. BA or he definitely wouldn’t have been a second round pick. He’s a hard worker, a competitor, and an elite offensive player. Now, here’s Bridges. He’s scoreless, and there’s a whistle. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. Christophs Porzingis picks one up. It’ll be his fourth time going to the line in this game. [Applause] [Applause] Free throw good. Robinson and Atlanta making a change here. Akongu’s checked in. He’s off on the second. Well, not a perfect trip to the line, but he gets the one he needed to put them in the driver’s seat. Throws it up high. Oh, the dunk by a Congu. The great read between those two guys. The defense didn’t stand a chance. NBA. These two teammates right here, Grant, they are connected. Now, here’s Brunson. 16 points for him. Here’s Daniels. Right side. Johnson. Here’s Young inside. It’s Trey Young. The control of Young unleashing a devastating dribble move and finding the shot. Right side Anobi. And that’s a foul called on OG Anobi. That’s his third foul so far. I love great defense. Just quick to establish his feet and he takes the hit. Atlanta leading by three. in the third quarter with just over three and a half minutes off the clock. It’s tipped. Here’s Towns. He’s got 11. [Applause] Right side. Brunson. Back to Towns. Oh, it’s Towns with the finish. Yeah, going right for the iron. Towns musling his way through. And Young has got the ball here for Atlanta. Pass to Aangu outside. Johnson. Young with it. The three ball. They grabbed their own miss. [Applause] Second shot opportunity. Oh, Young so tough at his size. What intensity from Young in the paint. Not backing off because of some coverage. Towns outside. Back to Brunson. Shoots over Young and it’s New York scoring again. and so effective from these in between spots. Brunson doesn’t need much room to feel comfortable. Pass to Daniels. Got to move. Brunson against Young. Young goes in. Ooh, plenty of contact on that shot. Officials call the foul and he’ll take two free throws. Now it’s going to go on Mitchell Robinson. And a moment here to take a look at some hustle stats for the Hawks. Well, their shot blocking, the defensive effort level has been great. You got to love that intensity. They’re also finding a lot of points tonight off of transition play. Running the floor and using the fast break to beat the defense. That free throw no good. Harts checked in for Anobi. [Applause] [Applause] Good on the second one. The Knicks have got five of six shots to fall so far in the third with a tie and he gets the friendly roll as that one goes. Brunson’s gotten four this quarter. The lefty getting it to go. Jaylen Brunson once again. Pass to Aangu. Now Johnson beyond the ark. Atlanta again missing. Finding space on the perimeter, but he couldn’t capitalize. Robinson finds Towns. Outside Brunson for the lead. Rebounded by Johnson. Atlanta’s gone. Only one of three from deep here in the third. Here’s Daniels. The put back. Great positioning on the put back and the Hawks lead by two. The effort, the position, the timing, all there. And add instincts to that. He can sense where the rebound’s going to go. Now here’s Bridges. Still no points. Robinson passes to Brunson. Oh, and Johnson with a block. Count it and one. He’ll have a chance in a three-point play. It’s going to go on Mitchell Robinson, Alexander Walker. He’s checked in for Trey Young. [Applause] Find the lane. Find the lane. No shot. [Applause] Brunson with it. 20 points for him. [Applause] Towns outside. [Applause] Huffkin, he’s checked in for the Hawks. [Applause] Outside Robinson outside Hart just five to shoot. Pass to Brunson puts it up from 17. Not enough on that one as it misses. The Hawks lead by five and it’s Alexander Walker penetrating the three from Riza. Sinks the tray. Reese’s gotten himself going with a triple. His first basket of the game. The Knicks have gotten six of 10 shots to fall in this third quarter. Outside Brunson. It’s hard on the wing. Screen by Robinson. Will it go? Kicks it out. Towns three-pointer and that basket makes him six for 11 shooting a good percentage. Taking his shot and Towns doesn’t think he just acts. Atlanta’s gone two for five from three since halftime. And so it’s Quinn Snider here calling timeout. He’s going to talk it over with his guys. And we’d all love to hear what goes on in those huddles, but we just get the snapshots. Well, as a coach, you want to cover just one or two major points. That way, guys can absorb it and go out and execute. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] And Atlanta making a change here. Canard’s checked in. [Applause] Here’s Buffkin. Pass to Alexander Walker. Johnson. A screen on Brunson. And he lobbs it up to the rim. Out of bounds. It’ll be New York’s ball. I’m not sure what happened there. You just can’t give away possessions in this league. It’s time to take a glance again at that superb block. Oh, amazing indeed. And getting stops like that only encourages them to keep attacking on the offensive end. Here’s Brunson. 20 points for him. Towns outside for three. That one doesn’t drop and the defense got away with one there. I mean, that’s a shot he typically makes. Pass to Aw. Now here’s Johnson covered by Towns. All he needed was a little separation. So effective. boy. Cleared the path, put him in position for a prime time dunk. Well, give credit to the screener there. That’s how you help free up your teammates. Hard against Johnson. Back to Bridges. Fires the three, gets the three to fall. Oh, productive from back there. Bridges showing the range. And Male Bridges still one of the better wing defenders in the league. Grant. Yeah, he’s so great at pestering a shooter. Good lateral movement and wingspan makes him hard to get around. He might not be the best in the league, but he is well above average. Well, when you move the ball, you open up the defense. Great job to make the unselfish play. Here’s Robinson. Basket is good. Off the assist from Brunson. Brunson’s got eight assists in the game. And the find by Brunson. More than capable of running the offense. Now here’s Alexander Walker. 12 points for him to the middle. Here’s a Congu. Oh, the dunk by a Congu. Just a big man playing big. No way to stop it. Knicks trail by six. Bridges outside, lays out and the ball goes out of bounds. Last touch by Canard. Almost had the steal. You have to love the pressure defense. Yeah, deflections are a stat that a lot of teams track, disrupting the offense’s rhythm and flow. Clarkson’s checked in for New York. McBride comes in for Brunson. Pass to McBride. [Applause] Alexander Walker grabs a board. Atlanta leading by six. Here’s Buffkin. He’s guarded by Bridges. And there’s a pick and a foul called on the way up. So he’ll take two from the free throw line. Well, that was clearly a foul. [Applause] Shooting two. [Applause] And he drops a first. and so he hits both. [Applause] Knicks trail by eight. Clarkson passes to Hart. Towns with the ball. Here’s Yabaselli. at Hart. Shot clock at five. The baseline J no good that time. Atlanta leading by eight [Applause] outside Alexander Walker. Pass to Buffkin. Clarkson against Canard. Inside tipped. It’s stolen by Hart. Here’s McBride and there’s a whistle. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. Everyone in the building saw the obvious contact. [Applause] [Applause] And he makes a first [Applause] on the miss. Miss gets one then misses the second attempt from the line. Atlanta leading by seven. Outside Alexander Walker picked up by Aongu. Let’s go with a three. Art pulls it in. Art’s got his seventh rebound of the game with that last one. Pass to Clarkson. [Applause] And that’s good from 17 ft. Clarkson’s got 11. Comfortable scoring it anywhere on the floor. Jordan Clarkson is instant offense. Now here’s Alexander Walker. Ammo. A screen on heart. And the call is going to be yes. An illegal screen. The screener was leaning a bit right there. His feet may not have been planted. Pretty obvious call by the officials. Look, you can get away with a lot in terms of screens today, but you can’t make it that obvious. [Applause] Now Clarkson, he’s got 11 up and over Canard. And it’s Clarkson missing. 30 seconds left in the third quarter of the game. Pass to Canard. [Applause] Five to shoot. Akongu. A screen on Clarkson. Canard can’t get it to go. I’m sure he’d like to have that back. That’s a missed opportunity. [Applause] And he lobbs it up and it’s blocked. A big time effort for Trey Young, providing a lot of energy for the Hawks. 27 on the night. He’s had it his way. More NBA on 2K Sports right after this. [Applause] All right, let’s take a look at our assist of the game presented by State Farm. And I’ll tell you what, this was a nobrainer tonight. Take a look at the precision on this feed. Couldn’t place it any better. Yeah, that’s highlevel playmaking. He makes it look easy, but it’s not. And it’s been a very competitive game so far as we get rolling here in quarter number four. And the Hawks looking at who they’ve got. We’ve got Luke Canard, Mquille Alexander Walker out there with Oneka Kongw. And it’s Crerache in at one pass to Canard from the ark. Pure from three-point range and the Hawks lead by eight. Well, it’s a three-point shooting league. Guys like him are so important for spacing. [Applause] Outside McBride down low. Here’s Clarkson. And he was fouled in the act of shooting. Opportunity for a three-point play here. You got to bring more fire than that to stop Clarkson. He’s a pro at fending off tight defense. Toppin. He’s checked in for Kongu. [Applause] Push it on the middle. Push it on the middle. The Hawks lead by five. Canard outside [Applause] left side. Alexander Walker. Man, the defender really went after him. Take a break. Take a break. Two shot. No good on the free throw. [Applause] Got this. [Applause] [Applause] And the second free throw is good. Knicks trail by six. [Applause] Clarkson outside. [Applause] McBride. Back to Clarkson. outside Hart. Here’s the pick. Down to five on the shot clock. Pass to Brunson. The three is up. Corner pocket from Brunson. And you can’t forget to guard these corner spots or guys like Brunson will hurt you. Outside. Alexander Walker. It’s rebounded by New York. Well, when they’re playing off you, you have to make them pay. And he could. And here’s Brunson to tie it up. And the Knicks, another three. You know, some threes look better than others. And Brunson’s lefty stroke from three is a beautiful thing. And Atlanta with possession here. Here’s Crerache. Leave it along. Two minutes gone in the fourth. Pass to Canard over Clarkson. Nice shot by Canard. And the Hawks lead by two. The screen doesn’t earn him a ton of breathing room. Turns out he doesn’t need it. Clarkson outside to take the lead. The shot no good. The Hawks have gone two of three to open the fourth quarter. To the paint and he takes the fantastic lead pass. Upstrong for the slam. Throws it down emphatically. He’s got serious hops, right? You add that to his ability to penetrate, that’s two easy points. Here’s Brunson. The rebound by Crree. Atlanta leading by four. Pass to Alexander Walker [Applause] now. Toppin. Canard outside. There’s the triple. It doesn’t go for him. And he probably thought he was going to bury that one. [Applause] Brunson with it. [Applause] Pass to Clarkson. [Applause] Now here’s Hart. Just five on the clock. Here’s Burnson outside. Alexander Walker grabs a board. [Applause] A look at the clock. A little under three and a half minutes gone high in the fourth. They set the screen. [Applause] Here’s Crerachche. Brunson defending this one for three. The shot misses. And you just can’t afford to give up that kind of look very often. Here’s Clarkson. The shot’s good. Clarkson’s got five points now in the quarter. I mean, nothing you can do there. I mean, if Clarkson is going to make this, you tip your cap to him out left to the wing. Now, here’s Alexander Walker. McBride covers [Applause] and the officials whistle a foul on the shot. The bucket is good and he’ll go to the line. And you have to love the focus. He gets hit but converts it anyway. So, both teams changing it up here. [Applause] Find the lane. Find the lane. One shot. [Applause] And we’ll have a timeout called by Mike Brown. Coach clearly has something he wants to say to his team right now. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. Heat. [Applause] Cr checked in for the Hawks. And from the sideline, let’s catch up with Ally. Thanks, guys. I got a chance to hear what Mike Brown was saying to the team. Well, coach is thrilled with their three-point shooting, saying in the huddle, guys, let’s keep it up. Continue to shoot it from deep. It’s working. They’ve been on fire from distance so far. All right, Ally, thanks once again. Knicks trail by five. Pass to Brunson. [Applause] to the inside. Here’s Hucki. Here’s Diara. [Applause] Six to shoot. Here’s Brunson. Rebound Atlanta. They’ve led by as much as 10. Porzingis surveying the floor. Outside Young back to Porzingis. And he’s going to the line for two. The officials saw contact while he was going up. That’s on Male Bridges. Even though Porzingis can shoot over anyone, he still does all the little things that make a difference. Shooting two. That free throw good from Porzingis standing at 73. We have never seen a player quite like Chrisaps Porzingis. A fantastic shooter, a solid ball handler. What a talent. New York making a switch here. Harts checked in and so he makes both from the line. Well, you have to appreciate a big man who can step up to the line and knock it down with confidence [Applause] to the middle. It’s tipped. Pass to a Port and the foul called on Christophs Porzingis. That’ll be foul number five on him. Mitchell Robinson. He’s checked in for New York. Carl Anthony Towns comes in for Hart. [Applause] On defense, the Hawks. They lead by seven. 19-footer. And it’s in. After a nice bounce off the right iron. Brunson’s got eight points here in the quarter. Rock solid screen right there. The defender got completely lost. Yeah, you’ve got to lock and trail hard. You can’t allow him a clean look from that. Here’s Riza tipped. Tenacious defender. Bridges covers so well. Outside Brunson. He buries it from three. Brunson’s got 15 points here in the second half. That’s a clutch shot by a big time shooter. And where’s the D? [Applause] Inside. Here’s Johnson. Oh, and Johnson slams it in. Oh, save that for the dunk contest. That flush was so extra. Whether or not this game is close, he’s the same guy. Focused on finishing firm at the rim to the paint. And a big finish by Robinson. A beautiful setup on the alley. Great catch. Great flush. Here’s Daniels. Pass to Rezach outside. Johnson now. Young. Clock at six. Launches a three. Drains the triple. Young’s got 30 points. A jumper that is pretty and effective. Young’s game starts with his shot. Clarkson outside pass to Robinson. Bridges outside. Three-pointer. And again, New York with the triple. And both teams running long range plays that are working well. You know, it’s become a three-point shooting league. Teams shooting a steady diet from outside. There’s Young with the three. The Knicks pull it in. Towns has got eight rebounds in the game. Bridges outside. Pass to Robinson. Outside Brunson to tie it up. Deflected. Here’s Daniels. He’s covered by Clarkson. The three from Riza. Drills it from deep. And the Hawks lead by five. Even though he’s young, Daniels tends to make the right decisions with the ball in his hands. Towns outside. Back to Brunton. Oh, look at Jaylen Brunson. Don’t let that size fool you. Now, he may only be 6’1, but Brunson plays much bigger than that. I mean, he plays with a physicality. Here’s Young. Laid it in with a nice touch off the window. Young’s got five points in the quarter. He’s really finding his rhythm here. I mean, smart move to keep feeding him the ball. Yeah, when you have a guy playing like he has been recently, he’s got to be the first option on every possession. Atlanta leading by five. Pass to Johnson. The three ball. It’s hauled in by Robinson. And Towns has got the ball here for the New York Knicks. Clarkson for three. That one is off. The Hawks have gotten eight of 14 shots to drop so far here in the fourth quarter. Oh, and Johnson slams it in. Nice pass inside. Making things easy for him. Bridges outside. Back to Brunson from downtown. Rebounded by the Hawks. Here’s Daniels. Good on the bucket and it’s a nine-point Atlanta lead inside. Daniels really uses his agility getting nimble to find himself a shot and it’s Mike Brown calling timeout here. He wants their game plan to be crystal clear at this point. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] Heat. [Applause] [Applause] OG an Obies checked in for New York and the change for the Hawks. Porzingis has checked in. [Applause] [Applause] Anobi on the wing. Pass to Brunson. [Applause] Here’s Towns covered by Johnson. Five on the clock. Basket counts. And he is a force in the paint. Towns is such a huge presence inside for them. Here’s Rizay Adenobi covering and rejected. Out of bounds. Hawks ball as Atlanta keeps possession. And it’s time to take another look at that powerful block. Yeah, I love that they maintain the defensive energy even when they’re behind. [Applause] New York on D. They trail by seven outside Young. Shot clock at six. Young takes the hit and scores it anyway. Yeah, there’s Trey Young getting it done inside New York. They’re working against the clock now. Here’s Towns. So, it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting. [Applause] [Applause] First free throw is good and that brings him with an eight. And so Towns nails them both. A minute 42 left to play in the fourth. Here’s Rez Forzing with a screen on Anobi. [Applause] Here’s Rez. Anobi covering. [Applause] Shot clock at three. Here’s Daniels. And it’s New York with a rebound. Here’s Brunson. And he’ll draw the foul. He’ll head to the line for two. that one on Young. And you have to avoid getting too physical with Brunson because he’ll get these calls. [Applause] He hits the first one and that trims the lead to six. [Applause] Both free throws good from Brunson. He showed a lot of composure that trip to the line. Now it’s almost a onepossession game. Here’s Riza and an Obi covering. Here’s Young and he makes it on the layup. Young’s got 36 points. This is what he gives you night in and night out. Stellar production at the offensive end. Here’s Brunson and it’s in. Oh, and that cuts the lead to just five. I mean towards the end of the game, you want Brunson out there and he can do some special things for you and that’s an intentional foul. 44 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Pass to Porzingis. There’s the three and Anobi pulls it down. Ooh, that’s a tough break. After poor communication defensively, it leaves him all by himself. And they get it back. Brunson against Gorzingis. Clock at six. Towns outside. Fires the three. No good on the shot. And he commits the intentional foul. [Applause] [Applause] Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. He gets the first and that increases the lead to six. [Applause] So he goes two for two at the line and it’s a seven-point game. Taking care of business at the line and he adds some cushion to their lead. Now a timeout called by New York. There’s 14 seconds left to play in the fourth quarter of this one. Guys, your thoughts. And time’s running short. They just couldn’t get over that hump. Well, I’ve been in this spot more times than I’d like to admit. All you can do is tell your guys to hold their heads up and finish strong. [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] There’s 14 seconds left in the game. Here’s Towns. Oh, and he took a hard foul on the shot. So, he’ll head to the line to shoot a pair. [Applause] [Applause] He drops the first one and that trims the lead to six. And so Towns nails them both and now they decide to foul intentionally. Yeah, no choice but to foul in that situation. Although that’s not the guy you want to send to the free throw line. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. Good on the first and that increases the lead to six. [Applause] So, he gets them both and it’s a seven-point game. [Applause] So, it’s Atlanta picking up the win and they barely squeezed out the win here on the road. NBA, the visiting team is always under some added pressure, but they made it work and got the win, whatever the margin may have been. And that about wraps it up for Grant Hills, Stan Van Gundy, and Ally Leforce. This is Brian Anderson signing off. And let’s leave you with our player of the game, Trey Young.

Very good game
