We’re breaking down players who found a way to stand apart at NBA Summer League, just like Boost Superior Network and 5G Towers. This player was a top five pick last year and then his coach simply wouldn’t play him. That player is Reed Shepard for the Houston Rockets, a sniper out of Kentucky who last year couldn’t get off the bench because he couldn’t defend. and now in summer league goes 28 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals, three blocks in 33 minutes. Here’s why I think this is noteworthy. If the Rockets are going to break through and the Rockets are going to be a real contender the way I believe they can be, they needed to go from having some of the least shooting in the league to at least being passable. And by adding Durant and if all of a sudden they get real contributions from Shepard, they could go from a lack of shooting to a surplus of shooting. I think Reed Shepard is going to be a guy who plays some high leverage minutes for the Rockets this year. You want to see a guy like that dominate when he’s in summer league. And that one game where he had 2844 and three was enough for me.
