The Major Mavericks Move That Nico Harrison Deserves Credit For

While Dallas Mavericks trade rumors have been quiet throughout the 2025 NBA offseason, the Mavericks shocked the world at the 2024 NBA Trade deadline with the Luka Doncic trade and Quentin Grimes trade. Mavericks GM Nico Harrison was heavily criticized for the moves, with Mavericks fans calling for his firing repeatedly. However, did the Mavericks make the right move given what’s happened in 2025 NBA Free Agency, Quentin Grimes, Josh Giddey, Cam Thomas and Jonathan Kuminga are all restricted free agents and have not signed contracts yet over 6 weeks into NBA free agency.     Dallas has a superstar with a major ACL injury. Another guy who can't see at the moment. Then, they are banking on Flagg, who got beat an awful lot in college. When you stop looking at his highlights, you see this clearly. Luka is a for real generational talent. Dallas will be in rebuild mode again in 2 or 3 years. They wont win next year so that gives them one year to win a title as they pay AD $67 million.

    Nico Harrison should be strapped into a seat with his eyes propped open ala Head Droogie Alex in A Clockwork Orange (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYn53PVeB5Y). He should then be shown seven seasons of Luka Doncic NBA Highlights without any interruption for as long as it takes to get him to admit that The Trade was a major blunder. If Nico doesn't admit this then he gets to watch the highlights again and so on.

    I've been a fan of the Mavericks for over 40 years and attended the team's coming out party in the WCF in 1988 (Magic, Kareem, Worthy vs. Tarpley, Blackman, Harper, Aguirre). We feel betrayed by Nico and so does Dirk, the best player in Maverick's history.

    It's possible more time can go by and he could be right about more than just that trade. But people don't want to think about that the wounds are still too fresh.

    I think Brandon Williams will need to step up and continue to improve until Kyrie comes back. If he does I'll feel better about the Mavs chances. The team also has to stay healthier than they were last season, especially with their starters.

    No, everyone saw why this happened. We knew Q was gone when he didn't sign the extension. The trade was abysmal, Martin is on the way out of the league

    Trading Grimes bothers a lot of folks but, for me, it was basic, asset management and an awareness of where their available money needed to go. DAL was never going to be able to afford to keep Grimes and would have had been unable to match any offer he got. Paying Grimes was going to translate to compromising their ability to pay Gafford/PJ. Moving him got you a serviceable veteran who can be on the back end of the wing rotation, has playoff experience and is on a moveable, expiring contract. In a perfect world, you would keep Grimes or gotten more for him but this was a solid, business transaction

    Nico made the 2 worst trades last season, if you remember they made the Luka trade and was still trying to make the playoffs. Grimes would have been nice to have going down the stretch.

    It's not the trade as much as the low return, similar to the infamous trade. Seems like Philly was also looking ahead.

    nico is doing good.
    Just a year awsy to win NBA Championship. Just watch.
    Just let them be heathy 80% of season. 6-10 chances mavs will win.

    Money wise yes , but for the player we need this was a terrible trade. 3 and d guy who can also create and has all the motivation in the world being bounced around not getting playing time . Soon as he gets traded 30 point games and defense lol
