The mayor is asking for an economic study, primarily because the AT&T Center was put into a part of town that it was supposed to revitalize. That didn't happen. Also, this is going to take YEARS to even begin breaking ground, so there really is no rush. IMO, it's absolutely better to have more information than less, and put this to a vote in the city where we all know more about the implications rather than less. People are acting like they are going to build this thing tomorrow if it gets approved. The area that this is supposed to go is right on top of where our current convention center is, which, while it needs to be renovated, it will take a lot of dollars out of the city's coffers while it's out of commission. The Alamo Dome is also in this district, which means that it, another source of revenue for the city, will also be out of commission for a while. There are also a lot of tax implications of just passing this, and with inflation the way it is currently, that makes the cost of living here even higher.
I don't blame her for her caution even a little bit. Anyone saying that this is a 'power play' will need to justify that statement.
Kinda wild how many people would rather have tax dollars being used to save billionaires some money rather than social programs. I know it's not as egregious as the subsidies for a lot of other stadiums but ANY government spending on private entertainment companies in a city with a growing homelessness problem shouldn't be happening.
We need a new title for the executive running the city. David Robinson is the Mayor of San Antonio.
HOW DARE YOU PUT WEMBY ON THE THUMBNAIL I SERIOUSLY THIUGT HE GOT INJURED
The vote will pass thursday to movs forwarding for a November vote from the public. Nothing to see here
Please do not do this kind of clickbait title. To me, it does not look good on your channel, which I very much like otherwise. THanks.
Spurs beat writers are doing Spurs propaganda right now which is weird. Mayor wants more info because of previous promises that weren't kept. People are interjecting their own politics into the situation because unfirtunately thats the climate we're in.
Tax payers should NOT foot the entire bill. Its always socialize the cost and privatize the profits. Let the mayor cook, Spurs arent going anywhere. Sports teams threaten leaving every time
They look for reasons be racist. All that over an arena? If they approve it, they'll be complaining about taxes. Lose/lose for the mayor
The economic analysis that was done was by a firm who is connected to the spurs . The mayor wants an independent study done by a firm apart from the spurs . The last Arena was supposed to lift up the east side economically but never did . Plus we donβt know if numbers were tinkered a bit .
Don't scare us like that. I was worried when I saw Wemby with that headline.
San Antonio will NEVER get a better deal then what the Spurs are offering. Im worried if SA dont take it the Spurs will eventually leave. Come on, look at their contributions compared to the Thunder.
Itβs the I-Statement for me as she think she has all the power.
