just make open threes, free throws, and defend better, and I dont see how the raptors trade him before the deadline (assuming the team wins most of their games)
Love RJ! I feel he gives 100%, especially playing at home. He's young, high energy, aggressive. Improving FT,3pt,defense would be ideal..Definitely want to see him play with this team for a few months. JW or Grady might be good enough to step up?
Raps top 6th in the east with RJ and everyone healthy. Boom! you heard it here first. Go Raps!
Not everything can be fixed with a trade. Get deeper with content because hoopers recognize this is agood team if they not trying to be an imitation of someone else. We good as is
there are literally no other guys out there playing the 2-guard who offer a slight discount on RJ's salary. I don't see a deal getting done. Not every team out there has picture perfect balance/fits on the roster, and the raptors aren't in 'championship or bust' mode. I say let the boys play it out.
Yeah I love RJ but he's def the odd one out hopefully RJ can surprise and make us think twice.
That is a dumb trade. They paid IQ $175,000. He did not do what RJ did. They paid Ingram for his "potential," they paid Scottie because he is a "star." RJ's been whipping Scottie since high school. What are they thinking? That team is not going to be much when they trade RJ. Another "We The North" Rebuild!!!! Watch!
Rj off the bench
Everything you say is correct if you assume he starts. He would be a perfect 6th man. Gradey should start in this line-up.
Stop talking about it. Moving rj will be a downgrade for a relatively weak team.
There have been zero credible reports
Move rj and people will start calling for websters head.
Lolllol dude. Is he your lead player?? So then trade him for crap??? Wtf
RJ is the best player on this team. He is the only one that's not over paid.
You know nothing about basketball shot 47 % from the field that's more than Scottie and Dick
I think ur just jealous of the Canadian
Jake Fischer just isn't a reliable source for Raptors news. Neither is Marc Stein – he's better than Jake.- but still iffy AF. They don't have a connection to the team or most of the agents. What they actually do is mostly speak to execs and insiders with other teams in their area whom speculate. They also aggregate existing reports and embellish them somewhat. With a front office as secretive as Toronto its hard forth to be accurate. And they were the primary sources behind this vid and the reporting around the Ingram variables that got picked up by the AP.. Jacob despite the sources – this was a really great video; the take; the research; and the technical production too Congratulations for real. I think you'll find that when the actual story drops if ever – the Pels asked for RJ – and they were given a high ask and balked. I think you'll also find that this is why nothing happened when other stars may have been available too like for example Durant – besides the fact he didn't want to come; Raps weren't ever going to take less than Rj's full value. It's not his perceived value around the league as much as the Raps looking to extract a high price Ala Desmond Bane = because RJ's better. And that's why nothing has ever happened with him. There is some off season stuff leaking on RJ more than just the new hairstyle and differences in arm size. I think we may be looking at him having a leap year defensively and as a slasher especially with mild improvements in his outside shooting. And it would make sense he's extension eligible. You asked what I thought – I don't think Raps are shopping him. They will listen – he's not untouchable. But nobody is shopping him. I think it's a coin toss and it's more likely that he plays himself into a new contract with the Raps than making himself fully expendable.
I am not interested in trading RJ
If his fit is clunky in the starting lineup, have you thought about the possibility of bringing him off the bench? His scoring ability would be highly valuable with the bench unit and they could still give him starter minutes. I’ve noticed that scoring droughts have been an issue with our bench over the past few seasons and this may be a way to combat this problem. I know it may not be ideal to pay a bench player this type of money, however, if Bobby isn’t able to find a valuable package for RJ, why not give this a try?
Why you always drop a video same day the other guy does
if rj wants to get paid he better earn it
No one wants to build a teams 😂
There is no rush to trade RJ. Let's see how this team performs AS IS. I do believe they have more to show in their abilities, including RJ. The tax is factored at the end of the season, so there is time before the trade deadline. Maybe the team proves it's a growing playoff team this year. If there isn't improvement before the deadline then "good" moves should be made to adjust the talent and get under the tax.
Point blank… we need an OG to replace RJ… we need a good 3 and D player to balance the starting 5 (ie OCHAI or future CMB) or he will have to move to the bench for almost 30mil… if RJ trade is going to happen then we still need a good stretch big and Jakob on the bench.
I'm getting frustrated about all this assumption about RJ as a "bad fit" for this team. We haven't seen them all play together!!! There is no trade available that brings in a better player on a similar contract. RJ is earning his $$$. He could easily be the 2nd scoring option this season and thrive in that role. His efficiency was down last year as he was often the best Raptor on the floor and he was asked to do way too much. Two seasons ago he shot over 39% from 3, I can see that happening again and I'm wondering why you don't?
RJ wasn't offered to the Pels for BI. RJ was part of a much larger 7-8 -player swap that the Pels rejected as the Raps would have taken back 2-3 of their young core. Obviously the Pels would have done RJ and KO for BI, who was leaving anyways. BTW KO wasn't expiring – he's still signed for the 25-26 seasons, now with the Spurs. RJ could have potentially helped his boy Zion both on and off the court.
RJ isn't on the Raps to be their #1 option, but he does a bit of everything including much-improved D and a more consistent shot, particularly from the corner. I don't think anyone should be outright against RJ being traded at all, but if the Raptors aren't getting any value back there is zero reason for trading him. The hypothetical DeJounte Murray trade being floated around would be an abject failure. Any 2-for-1 deals being floated around will solve nothing on the court or related to cap as the two players coming back will end up making more than RJ would alone. As you and others gave said, I don't see any realistic trades happening that make the Raptors better overall.
U all full of shit,
I feel everyone is reading way too much into the fact that the Pelicans "didn't want RJ" or that they "viewed it as a bad contract" to take on in the BI trade. The truth is, the Pelicans were and still are a BAD team. They WANTED expiring contracts to create cap space. They didn't want to pay BI, so why would they want to pay RJ? Pelicans wanted flexibility. They took pennies on the dollar from the Raptors to get off of the looming BI free agency. So, to continue the spreading of this false narrative that it's a bad contract that no one wants, does nothing but drive RJs value down. Bad contracts get moved all the time in sports. His is not as bad as the NBA media want you to believe.
We will probably regret trading Rj the home grown talent when BI and Scottie go to better tax friendly states. Also he is probably one of the best young players in the league who actually gives effort. I can't think of any player off my head who would be better than this guy is for us. We do need a defensive reb big probably a microwave player off the bench but I feel RJ has been srteadily improving with the raps theres no need to trade him now. Unless he says he wants out we should not forget that nobody wants to play in Toronto so trading a great guy like this to get back a disgruntled unhappy player is not a smart move.
Agree with everything you say about RJ. Unfortunately the league has largely moved away from ball-dominant midrange-heavy rim-running players like him, as can be seen in his lack of trade value. I like the intensity he plays with, but his skill set just doesn’t fit today’s game. He’s basically DeMar v2.0.
He hustles more the most players and cheers on his teammates.
He carries great chemistry as a player and has excellent character as well.
Still remember when they beat a stacked team USA at last Fiba world tourney where RJ and SGA stepped up their game. this proves the point that a better team that gets along is more valuable than one that has stars on it, just ask the Suns from last season.
