Biggest NBA Gambles: Rockets go ALL IN for KD | Will Bucks Keep Giannis? | Hakeem vs. Kobe
In honor of FanDuel Futures Day, today’s show is all about the biggest gambles that NBA teams and players made this offseason. We start in New York, where the Knicks made the risky decision to fire a successful coach in Tom Thibodeau and hire Mike Brown, disrupting their continuity in hopes of reaching a higher ceiling. Then we turn to Houston, where the Rockets pushed their chips in by trading for Kevin Durant in an attempt to jumpstart their progress.
The high-stakes moves continue in Milwaukee, where the Bucks are walking a tightrope, retooling their roster by moving on from Damian Lillard in a bid to keep a non-committal Giannis Antetokounmpo happy and engaged for the long term. We also try to make sense of the Sacramento Kings’ offseason, which has resulted in a confusing roster that has us questioning their direction. Finally, we wrap up the Elite Eight of our Tournament of Moves with two monumental matchups: Michael Jordan’s post fadeaway against Allen Iverson’s killer crossover, and Hakeem Olajuwon’s Dream Shake versus Kobe Bryant’s baseline fadeaway to set our Final Four.

The Rockets did not go "all-in" for Kevin Durant. In the trade, they sent out their two rotation players with the worst on-off ratings in Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks, one end-of-the-bench young player in Cam Whitmore, and one first round pick that would have been shipped out to the GLeague, for [probably] the greatest offensive player in NBA history. The Rockets managed to keep Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr, Tari Eason, Reed Sheppard, starting-level vets in Fred Van Vleet and Steven Adams, and brought in solid rotation pieces in Dorian Finney-Smith and Clint Capela. Also, the Rockets still managed to keep all of their own future 1st round picks, the Suns '27 and '29 1st round picks, the Mavericks '29 1st round pick, and the Nets '27 pick swap. Finally, the Rockets are in a great position from a cap-analysis standpoint. All of the young pieces can be maintained for the longrun, while having the capacity to make more major signings.
Rockets did good. I dont see the gamble. Got the coach they want. Got 5 young palyers still and still some picks from other teams. Fred is the team leader
Dream Shake all day!!
