Why do the Kings Pursue Players No Other Team Wants?

Looking at the players Sacramento has pursued in the last year or 2, they have all been players that other teams have had very limited interest in. As they keep pursuing Kuminga and Westbrook, Whitey and Jay question why they keep pursuing players that very few other teams want.

  1. They go after players nobody wants because nobody wants to play for them. We have never had a prime Superstar, like top 10 player. Even considering Webber.

  2. Kings shop at the thrift stores for players instead of buying something nice and worth value. At one time the item in the thrift store was nice but it’s older and not worth as much now but will still work. I think that’s one way to look at it and another is what good young player with a good agent would come here. I’ve watched the kings since 1989 and will most likely always support them but it’s a bumpy road with the kings unfortunately

  3. Scott Perry will let Keon walk for nothing or trade him for a 2nd because he's "not his guy"

  4. Sabonis was a great pick up. LaVine is a tremendous player. He just needs a system he can flourish in.
DeRozan is also a tremendous player who needs a system he can be allowed to play to his strengths.
Schroeder is a decent player he's respectable.
JV was a very solid center a starter on most NBA teams. Huge mistake to get rid of him. We had the best center combo in the NBA.
Westbrook could be a very nice addition. He's not perfect but he has elite skills that we could use.
The same is true of Ben Simmons especially if he finds a team and system he can thrive in.

  5. When the Kings are trying to get into the hottest club in town (AKA top end NBA talent), the bouncer makes sure to keep them out so the Kings have to go to the dive bar and hit on the drunk regular just to not be alone that night.

  6. Well, these are the kind of discussions you have when you have an inept ownership group that doesn’t realize that the only way to get that kind of talent in Sacramento is to build through the draft. Which means rebuilding. Tanking even. But instead, the ownership hires inept people that pass on Luca and then keep him around the building as advisors. So yeah, the Kings are shopping at the Goodwill, at the Dollar Tree, you name it. Keep supporting this team and Vivek and you get what you pay for.

  7. Be clear about it. No team wants players with an economic depression incoming. Owners are hiding behind the aprons, GS will be relieved if Kuminga takes the qualifying offer. They don't even want to pay that. Ticket prices are going to be 8 dollars and owners have to pay these contracts! Result? Salaries ride down, down, down during the depression. So it is VERY smart actually for the Kings to show interest in players while HIDING behind the apron! Love you Russ, wish we could sign you! See you in 2026 Kuminga, remember we love you.
