Tyronn Lue on LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kawhi & Harden, Kyrie, Clippers Future & Shaq Stories
Tyronn Lue — NBA champion as both player and coach, and current head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers — sits down with Shannon Sharpe at Club Shay Shay for a deep dive into his journey from a small-town kid in Mexico, Missouri, to leading some of the biggest stars in basketball history.
Lue opens up about his roots, his path to the league, and what he remembers from the legendary 1998 NBA Draft class featuring Dirk Nowitzki, Paul Pierce, Vince Carter, and more. He recalls the moment he thought he might be drafted by the Orlando Magic, what it was like getting the call from Denver, and eventually being traded to the Lakers, where he played alongside Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Rick Fox, and even Dennis Rodman. From Shaq pranks and $10,000 shopping sprees to learning what greatness meant from Kobe, Lue reflects on championship runs, locker room stories, and how much Allen Iverson influenced his love for the game.
As a coach, Lue shares his candid perspective on today’s NBA. He breaks down what the Clippers need to finally reach the Finals, his expectations for Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, Bradley Beal, and Chris Paul, and how important health will be for their success. He talks about building a tough defensive identity, what Kawhi has asked him about Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, and why he wants Lakers fans to come over to the Clippers’ side.
In Part 2, Tyronn Lue discusses LeBron James at length — their dynamic in Cleveland, the trust he built with the Cavs, how he guided them to beat the Warriors, and why calling out LeBron in the Finals made him mad but ultimately stronger. He reflects on the LeBron & Kyrie Irving duo, the failed Derrick Rose and Dwyane Wade experiment, trying to trade for Paul George in Indiana, and whether LeBron might return to Cleveland.
From Ben Simmons’ struggles to thoughts on today’s stars like Steph Curry, Jayson Tatum (his cousin), Anthony Edwards, and Kyrie Irving, Lue gives honest takes on the league now versus when he played. He shares his admiration for Kevin Garnett’s trash talk, Rajon Rondo’s fiery personality, and what he’s learned working under Clippers owner Steve Ballmer.
Finally, Lue opens up about his health battles, only getting three hours of sleep, and picking the ultimate starting five of his teammates. From Kobe and Shaq’s dynasty to LeBron’s greatest era, Tyronn Lue delivers unforgettable stories, sharp basketball insight, and a masterclass on what it takes to win in the NBA.

There's needs to be a kobe and Shaq documentary qbout there years from 96 to 2004
Nah Shaq wildin. Taking a dump in your teammates shoe is crazy work.
Shaq and kobe could have done what Michael and scottie pippen did
1:53:45 this was an interesting decision cause if they would of waited then they could of done a sign and trade in FA cause im pretty sure Kyrie would of been a Restricted free agent at the time too. So im not really sure why else they decided to jump the gun
Got much more respect for Ty lue after this nbs , bro really did a lot in the nba fr
Shaq went from a big kid to just down right low down 😭😂😂😭😭😭
I’m a hour into the interview and Shannon asking him about everybody in the nba but the person he interviewing
Unc… Don't let them dim your light… Your special man keep it moving! You gotta expand your network, find future well spoken, charasmatic youngans who can rep the culture like you do and create your own dam espn!
Great one fellas. That Cavs moment made me tear up
1st name out Shannon mouth….
Steve Kerr is 6'5" and was grown at the time of the fight
KOBE COULD NEVER BE TOP 10. NOT SAYING HE WASN'T THE MAMBA BUT HIS GAME WAS A SOLID REPLICATION. THIS ISN'T F1. YOU CANNOT COPY THE GAME AND THINK YOU'VE ECLIPSED IT'S ORIGINATOR. EVEN THEN…sry. Pistol Pete, Chamberlain, Moses Malone, Kareem, bird, MG Johnson , shaq, Yao, Julius… Do I need to go on?
45? But he didn't shoot threes. 40ppg i can see for sure
1:32:11 that's real bro.. I was laughing. It be like that sometimes

I love Ty Lue but Blatt you did wrong, mind you the Cavs were 30-11 & the #1 seed when he got fired
I love Shaq but when people think about the Lakers break up and act like Shaq and Kobe are similarly responsible, remember Shaq was 30 and Kobe was 24…T Lue says there were good guys around like Harp and Horry who recognise they're in a good situation etc, but Shaq was at the Magic in some crappy spots and ended up at the Lakers with a young phenom who had to push him every day to work. If Shaq was more mature, they stay together and win more.
And people are getting credits for game 7. I didnt Know Tye was such a cool guy.
I just want $1000 for every handshake and dap 😂😂😂
Regarding Laker / Clipper fan division – that was because of CP3. Prior to him, Laker fans mostly gave clippers some love, but he wanted to disrespect the Lakers, so be it .
The most humble person or athlete I have met. I met him in Vegas and he was the one to tell me, nice to meet you. He was cool about me taking a picture with him and having a talk for a minute it two. Respect to you brother and nice to see you as a guest.
Yall keep making it’s seem like Scotty wasn’t him is crazy work
Lebron is not king James !!! Lebron is Queen drama James ! Today nba is sucks !!! Euroleague is proper basketball .. NBA is nor sport is entertainment only !
Yes, the Lakers maybe win more titles with Mac bc he would've gotten along with Shaq waaaaaaaaay better than Kobe, team chemistry is on another level with Mac instead of Kobe RIP.
