I'm just surprised how many people can confidently rank Luka SGA Giannis lol. Jason prefaced his whole argument by saying it's super close and Giannis could easily be #2 but the pitchforks were out immediately.
Iām genuinely convinced you just donāt like defensive players.
Giannis is the best player in the nba. You glaze bron all the time about his defense once Luka got to the lakers.
But meanwhile Giannis is the best defender and the second best scorer in the league.
Neither jok or luka can guard an 8th grader. Everyone just chewed luka up for not being able to guard literally anyone.
And by your own logic. The bucks arenāt the best on defense but theyāre only a good defense specifically because of him.

Like I get it if you like luka and jok because they probably play how you played in college or high school.

Mailbag: Hi Jason, I sincerely tried to find way to agree with you, but I find it extraordinarily difficult. I understand you can use the highest level of award winning by SGA last season to justify him over Gianni's, but that is the only justifiable argument.
However, if you, 29 GM (except of Presti maybe) and 30 coaches are given truth serum and are told to trade their first- or second-best player (aka even considering the current set up of each team) for any of Luka, Giannis and SGA, everyone would select Giannis. Ask yourself, would the Lakers or Bucks be better next season with the same roster and Giannis or any of the other two? OKC would likely be as good, and Denver would take Giannis over Luka and SGA to play with Jokic 99 out of 100 times (even if it means trading Murray) because they will become immediately the best and smartest defense in the league and have 2 players with a guaranteed 28/12/6 (they will play games in the 80s and win comfortably). I thought really hard and only Minnesota, Huston and Cleveland (it is a push for OKC) would be justified to take Luka and SGA due to the diminishing returns on defense but even they would likely trust Giannis' extraordinary defense and guaranteed 30/12/6!, more than a black hole defensively in Luka and SGA without the current OKC infrastructure. In short, Giannis' offence is better or en par with SGA's, 80% of Luka's and 60% of Jokic's. Giannis is literally 100% (twice better) than Luka defensively, 50% better than Jokic (size matters for Jokic) and 50% better than SGA. So even if you give more value to offense, Giannis is simply a better player than SGA and Luka.
I am sorry but i think this is your least credible/worst ranking of a player so far (and i strongly disagreed with your AD ranking over anyone in the top 12). I enjoy your podcast, keep up the work on the great content you are producing.

Idgaf about SGA playmaking off the dribble, Giannis has basically averaged 32 11 and 6 on 60% from the field over the last two years. While being one of the most impactful defenders on the planet. 32 on 60% from the field is 32 on 69% from the field. Luka and SGA need to have play finishers for their playmaking to reach its ceiling. Giannis will always be big, strong, fast, and tall enough to dominate.
I donāt have a problem with this ranking at all. He is the by far the best defender among the remaining players. But, I also value offense over defense and heās got a glaring weakness on offense that Joker, Luka and SGA donāt. Any time your franchise player has a glaring weakness, the roster construction around that player is less fluid.

There is no logic that puts Luka over Giannis. NONE. Giannis a much more efficient player, much better defender, does everything better and has done it at a higher level

For those that are mad about SGA or Luka being above Giannis, I can understand it, particularly Luka coming off the season he had, but this is also about projection, and somebody has to be 4th. I love Giannis, but the 3 guys ahead of him are that level of player too, and again somebody had to be 4th.

I love your show and appreciate your analysis always. But itās jokic then giannis, and shai and luka fighting for 3rd. And this is from an okc fan. Giannis is more consistent, always in shape, and I donāt care what the splits are for offence and defence, being one of the best defenders in the world has to count for A LOT. As you said with wemby, his defence means if nothing else the floor of his playoff performance etc is still pretty high. Compare that to Luka who has FREQUENTLY been a negative defender. Keen to hear your case, but Iām going to need a lot of convincing š

This take is bad not even just off of the premise alone, but your reasoning behind it. You believe Gianniās regressed somewhat defensively regular season but you know come post season heās still top 5, why is this a net negative for you? Even if he is slightly worse defensively than his dpoy year, he still hasnāt finished outside of the top 9 for DPOY voting currently and is still a all def 1st team level player. That alone still has him miles ahead of the others on defense alone. Also this āover-the top shotā you harp on he desperately needs to be successful is not the reason he hasnāt had deep post season runs, itās just been health. Putting Luka ahead of Giannis based on a projection, SGA ahead of him based on 1 season, when dude has averaged 30 12 and 5/6 over the last 6 seasons is such a crazy take. If you people need any example of what a healthy Giannis can do with an extremely limited roster, go watch him in EuroBasket on the Greek national team. Where based on everything this guy is saying, he should be absolutely struggling rn because defenses can load up more in the paint and thereās no 3 second violation. Having luka over Giannis is not a crazy take. Luka's IQ is much better, his offense is much better. While Giannis is clearly head and shoulders better defensively, it's an offense driven league. And Giannis cannot produce at the level of luka or jokic. High IQ and elite offense leads to more wins. Giannis will most likely put up monster stats, but it will not lead to wins as luka and jokic will do this season. It's why we've seen Both luka and jokic drag very subpar teams. Giannis has yet to drag bad teams to success. The east is wide open this season and nobody has the bucks as a top team in the east. Luka and Jokic would drag that team to a top 4 seed
