Celtics Insider Brian Robb (MassLive) On Celtics Trading For A Center:
“This has to be one of the biggest priorities for the Celtics front office this season and is probably part of the reason right now why Simons is still on the Celtics. Boston simply does not have much movable salary on their roster right now beyond their core pieces outside of Simons.
Boston has started accumulating some team building weapons (TPEs) but those won’t be of use until next summer at the earliest if and when Boston gets under the luxury tax threshold. For now, Simons is the team’s only tool to bring back significant salary without touching its core so they will want to use him wisely for that purposes in weighing deal options… His value on the market is obviously not great at the moment given the Celtics have been testing his value this summer but when they do move him, those moves should ultimately lead in part to landing a center (even if it doesn’t happen directly).”
