Spurs Luke Kornet Changing Rotation & Starting Thought

The San Antonio Spurs Signing of Luke Kornet was huge and gave them a real center alongside Victor Wembanyama. Spurs now have some decisions to be made with The roster Starting unit and Rotation.

  1. The main advantage of the updated Spurs roster is that Mitch Johnson will have a lot of possibilities in the frontcourt to answer to the tactical problems, without really downgrading the quality of the linups.
Last season we have been destroyed by the double big lineups (Miami : 2 losses, Cavs : 2 losses, Miami : 3 losses,…). End of February, the Pels (and its duo Olynyk – Missi) just killed us thanks to the offensive rebounds (17 and 20) in the back-to-back.
This year, different frontcourts will be able to put in place : Wemby – Barnes (for a maximum of spacing), Wemby – Olynyk (for spacing and offensive rebounds), Kornet – Wemby (against double bigs matchups), Wemby – Sochan (very defensive), Wemby – Bryant (defensive + spacing),… And all of them should present a very positive netrating.
What I just don't want to see anymore is a frontcourt Wemby – KJ… In a smallball tactic, you don't use a guard to play PF !!!!

  2. I think Kornet was acquired to be a backup to Wemby, and maybe an occasional "twin towers" together. But Kornet, when healthy is the best backup center that Wemby has ever had. Boston adored him and hated to lose him, but they couldn't afford to keep him.

  3. Regrettably, the glory days of Pop-RC Buford are long gone. Had to come to an end sometime. Wemby-Sochan-Castle-Fox-Harper-Bryant are the core needed to keep together. But Fox's Gangsta greed and his Gangsta agent re: his max extension set a bad precedence. Sochan may be gone as a result.

  4. Kornet was a great pickup, and Wemby is great enough to overcome the step back that was taken by hiring G-Leaguer Mitch the Meek brings as HC. But the Spurs can reach the WCF if the core of Wemby-Sochan-Castle-Fox-Harper-Bryant-Barnes-Kornet-Champagnie play 70 games together and OKC is the #1 seed.

  5. Spurs are going to show the league a new style of basketball with shooting Bigs and guards who drive and finish, or kick out for 3s. In his rookie season Pop made it clear Wemby was a perimeter player so expect him to continue PRIMARILY playing the 5. Kornet, like Wemby, will be given the green light and shoot 3s like he did in his college days.

  6. I'm already a huge Kornet fanboy. He's one of the best backup bigs in the league but I'm excited to see Kornet/Wemby twin towers lineups.
