HE’S BACK! Mavericks Sign Dennis Smith Jr To Training Camp Contract In NBA Free Agency | Mavs Rumors

Dennis Smith Jr. has signed an exhibit-9 contract with the Dallas Mavericks in 2025 NBA Free Agency! This Mavs news comes as a surprise with the Mavericks already having 15 guaranteed contracts on their roster prior to the 2025-26 NBA Season beginning. Smith was the No. 9 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Mavericks, then was involved in the Kristaps Porzingis trade from the Mavs to the New York Knicks. Smith also played for the Portland Trail Blazers, Charlotte Hornets and Brooklyn Nets in his career before playing 4 games for Real Madrid last season.

Dennis Smith vs. Brandon Williams will be a Mavericks training camp battle to watch. Williams’ contract is only partially guaranteed, meaning the Mavs can cut him with less penalty than the likes of Dante Exum or Jaden Hardy, who is in the first year of his 3-year extension. Williams is owed $200,000 currently, which bumps up to $850,000 if he is on the Mavericks’ opening night roster. Can Smith impress Mavs head coach Jason Kidd enough to keep him around?
