What do Hornets Lottery Pick Paydays Look Like? | Sixers Trade Idea Featuring Two Familiar Names

Josh Giddey’s new $100 million contract prompts a look at the Hornets’ future financial decisions, specifically what a second contract for Brandon Miller might look like. Plus, we propose a trade that brings two familiar faces, Kelly Oubre Jr. and Andre Drummond, back to Charlotte.

On today’s show, we start with the news of Josh Giddey agreeing to a four-year, $100 million contract with the Bulls. This deal perfectly illustrates the “Giddey conundrum,” a tough spot for teams navigating the new CBA with players who are good, but not quite max-level talents. This leads us to examine the Hornets’ own roster and future extension decisions. While the 2021 draft class is a non-factor, the front office will soon face a huge decision with Brandon Miller. We explore whether he is on a max-contract trajectory and what happens if his performance lands somewhere in the middle, similar to the contracts for Jabari Smith or Jalen Green.

To lighten the mood, we share some fun reporting from Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer, who asked the Hornets’ rookies about the first big purchases they plan to make with their new money. Finally, Doug presents a trade idea with the Philadelphia 76ers that would help them with salary cap issues while bringing Kelly Oubre Jr., Andre Drummond, and a first-round pick back to Charlotte in exchange for Pat Connaughton and Spencer Dinwiddie.

  1. That trade would be a steal for us but we’d still be cutting players before the season starts. Would be great to trade players for assets/future assets to reduce the roster size.
I always thought Kelly Oubre looked like a Hornet.

  2. I don't think Dinwiddie fits into your trade, you'd need a vet Min contract so maybe plumlee to keep the value low enough to make it work for philly

  3. 😐 you guys have to be kidding me, after you talked so much crap about Tsunami Papi now you want him back?!? This franchise doesn’t deserve the most beautiful man in the world after how we treated him 😤 but I mean would I love to have my fave player back on my fave team especially if we make a little playoff push? Hell yeah 😂

  4. Upon giving it some thought, I came to the realization that taking an upside pick like Salaun is kind of dumb. At best he develops just in time for his first big contract and now he’s being paid fairly despite not providing real value on rookie deal. At worst you spent a top ten pick on a guy who is out of the league. Kind of sucks when you think about it. Tons of risk at best minimal reward.

  5. The time yall take saying you might be able to do who wore it best and saying yall cant, you really couldve haha😂

  6. Hornets honestly don’t have 2 years to sit around and wait for a player to come into their own if they aren’t good now get rid of them if you wait two years then trade said player what a waste of time if they traded Lamelo Brandon and any other player the last 4 years would be a total waste of

  7. Sixer's are not looking to win as embiid and pg's health are in question. They are not going to risk losing a 1st round pick. They literally tanked last year to keep their 1st round pick as it was top 6 protected.
