“The NBA has changed its rules for the 2025-26 season regarding “heave” shots—very long attempts, typically from beyond half court, at the end of a quarter. Now, if a player takes a shot within the final three seconds of the first three quarters from at least 36 feet away (with the play starting in the backcourt), a missed shot will count as a team field goal attempt, not an individual one. This means those deep buzzer-beating tries will no longer negatively impact a player’s personal shooting percentage, though makes still count for the individual stats.”
