Come on Sheer, this isn't something I wanted to hear. Maybe it wasn't articulated the best. I've seen guys come in the league with all of the intangibles but lacked confidence and didn't pan out. The last guy we saw like this was Bol Bol. I hope the switch and belief switch turns on before the real season starts because out of all the up and comings, I would have put my money on you. Now we have to see if you believe and belong as much as we do. The best motivator is the one internal or it will be a long flight and a long career overseas with regrets. Lets go Young Buck!! Now this is where a KD or CP3 could have helped get you confident quickly. Having 2nd year guys trying to instill this can definitely slow ones progression.
These are the things that concern me with Book being the man. I've always felt that Book has had the mindset to get his and never really spent the time with the next man up. They need more old vets to be able to pull these guys in and show them the nuances of the game. He sounds like he's scared.
I guess this could be the first sign of a Rookie coach as well. If he feels this way, I wonder if the other rookies do as well. I'm not going to be having to motivate you every day to get better and play harder. With the multitude of staff always in the gym, wouldn't you think someone would be dedicated to this dude getting him prepared for the league. Here I am thinking he had the opportunity to be the starting forward and after today, it sounds like he needs to spend his first year in the G-League. And if he's demonstrating disbelief now, he may end up out of the league by next year. Now is a great time to consider the next man up mentality and bring up Kobe Brea at least he believes in his game.
Good stuff sheer! Canβt wait to see you on the floor.
