INSTANT REACTION: Jonathan Kuminga signs 2-year deal with Warriors

Jason reacts to Jonathan Kuminga finally signing a deal with the Golden State Warriors, a two-year, $48.5 million contract with a team option. Kuminga will now get to officially rejoin Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green for this NBA season and the Dubs will get to make their Al Horford, DeAnthony Melton, and Gary Payton II signings official.

  1. This 'tear up the contract' language makes no sense unless there was a wink wink nod nod under the table agreement that Kuminga will either be a free agent in the summer of 2026 or–much more likely–will get traded this season before the trade deadline. I've literally never heard of a contract like this before. Weird stuff.

  2. They lost to the Rockets? They lost to the TWolves because Steph was hurt and there was no one other than Kuminga to get his shot and score.

  3. Steve trusts Podz, Gui Santos and Pat Spencer? That says more about Steve Kerr than Kuminga…..

  4. They are first tier contenders if all else is equal. But an aging core is A LOT OF RISK so it makes sense to rate them lower.

  5. While I don't love the age of this team, with Steph, Podz, Jimmy, Drayton and AL there is no doubt they have the highest IQ team in the NBA.

  6. Mailbag question:
2026 Draymond making 27 Mil, Buddy making 10 Mil, JK (23 Mil). That's 60 Mil in contracts, and couldn't help but notice Giannis is making 58 Mil. Given Draymond's is an expiring contract, Buddy's is a player option, and Bucks would now have JK's bird rights do you think Bucks would make the trade if some first rounders are thrown in. Also is this lineup a winner:

    PG-Steph

SG-Moody/Podz/(GP2 most likely on a vet minimum)

    SF-Jimmy

    PF-Giannis

    C-Horford/3rd year Post

  7. I think people aren’t realizing how good this two year contract is for both sides. Both Draymond and Buttler will finish their contracts at the same time Jks two years will be up. So if JK keeps developing then he could be offered the max and get the starting spot he actually wants

  8. In the first 30 seconds you’ve said it was a team option and a player option. Bruh which is it?

  9. The ppl who keep saying that the Warriors can’t wait to trade him never give a realistic name of the player that they supposedly will get. Keep in mind, if they trade Kuminga, they will then need an athletic wing who can score.

  10. Jason I don't know if I'm misinterpreting your point but I genuinely don't remember the Warriors losing a series to the Rockets since I've followed them lol

  11. Jason, when you say JK wouldn’t bring back anything better than Monk, you’re not accounting for the Warriors ability to sweeten the deal with draft capital. They can also throw in Moody.

  12. the Warriors do have younger players……Trayce Jackson, Moody, Will Richard[ national champ] Podz, LJ Cryer, and Kuminga. and Quentin Post. they also have the aussie Toohey on a 2-way deal with Spencer. and Melton is only 27.

  13. The JK-Monk deal would have meant parting ways with either Moody or Hield to make that sign and trade work. Likely that Kings not removing lottery protections on the first round pick was the sticking point. Now JK’s full $24M salary can be traded by All Star break. Who knows what’s available but most sane Warriors fans are not expecting a superstar in return. Viable veteran impact rotational player is my expectation if JK were traded.

  14. It's not that we need better than Monk, it's that we need a 4 that can defend and get rebounds, not another guard.

  15. You’re missing the obvious buddy. Wait for when Giannis asked for a trade, then golden states genius will makes sense 🙂

  16. I'm glad they were able to work out a trade-able deal with JK.
I'm still holding out for a possible reunion for Wiggins using JK's salary.
There's no denying that Wiggins would be an optimal fit to play alongside Steph, Jimmy, Dray and Horford.

Wiggins would Not have to be told to go out there, play hard, grab rebounds, be a menace on defense, and knock down 3s 😂

  17. Jason is just coping. He’s so salty that the warriors went farther than the lakers in the playoffs that he perpetuates clearly false narratives as a way of dealing with the fact that the old washed warriors are STILL better than LeBron’s Lakers

  18. If I were Steve Kerr I would use the first 5 games of the season to give Jk a chance to be on this roster at a high level, because honestly if you start JK everyone is in their natural positions. See how it goes:
    Steph
    Jimmy
    JK
    Dray
    Big Al

I understand the shooting piece, but this adds a traditional element to a dynamic team.
