I still think Towns is a first rounder this season. Cuz the argument against it is largely based around the notion he's sharing the floor with Robinson, and I'm not at all convinced that'll happen. The Knicks just had some of the best success they've seen in 30 years with the lineup as it was last season. I don't see any reason to shake that up in a significant way other than to utilize their bench more and reduce the wear and tear on the starters over the 82-game grind. It's the reason why they replaced Thibs, after all. Come playoff time, the word coming out of New York was that because the bench played so few minutes, they had little to no trust from Thibs, so he made no changes and kept rolling with the starters. That's not a problem with the makeup of the starting lineup, just a problem with the minutes distribution. Making a massive strategic shakeup to what was already working in your starting 5 makes no sense to me.
Secondly, Mitchell Robinson is making $12.5M this year. He's already stated plenty of times, he's cool with a bench role. And it's a lot easier to justify playing a guy making $12M off the bench than it is a guy making $40M+ that you traded 5 first round picks for in Rudy Gobert.
I don't see the starters changing. I see a minutes reduction for them, but that'll put them in line with more typical minutes of all the other starters league-wide. If that knocks a couple spots off his value, that's still a late first rounder. Not a mid-second.
