Are you confident Sean Marks and Jordi Fernandez can turn this Nets team into a contender? What moves would you like to see them make?
Thanks for responding Eric. Twitter character limit sucks but the main point from my take is that if CT makes a leap (which I think is possible as I'm higher on him than some), he could sway the Nets away from their current position on trading him. I'm with you that it's unlikely, but the framing of it all makes me think Cam sees the opportunity at BK is likely better than what's available w/ other teams as far as his role. And if he doesn't improve to that point, next free agency will sort out where he stands and he still may prefer it here.
the problem is he wont be on the nets to prove it to us , than i blame US for go alone with the media.
Man they fumbled that draft! Start with getting rid of Sean marks! Rebrand the team combine the old net colors with the new clean Brooklyn net look! And just build from the draft! We can’t keep depending on being in a big market to get good players! Drafting 4 players that play the same position is wild! The edgor bum better be nice because yall wasted a pick!
Tanking is dumb when the last two season playoff teams got the pick
I mostly agree with you Erik. I became a die hard Nets fan in 2018 because I really liked the culture that was being built for what I didn't know at the time was for the KD and Kyrie signing. I don't think CT is a winning player and can be a part of a core of a championship winning team. The one thing I disagree with is I think it's a lot more than 30 guys in the NBA that commands that type of money. Id say it's like 50-60.
I appreciate your work, so I'd be happy to be a Patreon supporter
Who will be a contender sooner, the Nets or Giants?
Cam Thomas > Erich Slayerr
The vision draft 5 g leaguers and pray one pans out 😂
I thought Cam could be a star but as time goes by it’s getting less and less likely. Maybe if he was properly developed from the time he was drafted. His entire rookie contract was wasted development time. He’s good but he could have been so much better if he was a priority. His self confidence is probably the only reason he’s still going as strong.
Listened to the pod. Not to be a Cam apologist but —you keep harping on the fact his salary quest is delusional in relation to his talent. Yet is Cam that less talented than Jalen Green or Tyler Herro. And while I agree he has lots of things he needs to work on you keep treating him like a finished product at 23 years old. Lastly, a lot of the players you comp him to such as Poole, Powell, etc don’t ever face double teams and are much older.even maxey..while clearly better…doesn’t have that much greater a case as a 2 way efficient player by comparison. The key to all this is the fact that Cam doesn’t have a can-do posatuve attitude like Maxey and the fact the nets never even attempted to give him run at point to establish some level of positional versatility.
Excited to see what Saraf can do. Great episode!
Hoping Egor is healthy to start the regular season. Will be interesting to see how the battle between Saraf and Traore shakes out.
Brooooooooklynnnn!
Thanks for taking my question! Love the mailbag episodes!
Go Nets!
Erik, it is disingenuous to say Cam is having a better career than most other players selected 27th in the draft. Cam Thomas has said himself in interviews that on draft night he expected to be picked in the late lottery between 11 and 14. And as happens if a player slides on draft night they can fall a long way as teams lower in the draft order already have a player in mind to select and they've probably worked them out and interviewed them.
If Cam had been selected 11-14 would you said he's having a better career than the average player selected in the late lottery?
I don't see Erik or other Nets reporters really discuss one reason why Cam Thomas hasn't developed as fully as he might have and that is because his first two head coaches for his first three years in the NBA did not seem interested in playing him. Nash and Vaughan benched CT for a minor mistake but they never boosted him when his scoring won them games. CT has played a much smaller amount of minutes compared to any other player who has enjoyed success in his draft class.
Hopefully Jordi Fernandez gives CT the platform and confidence to improve which he has done in each season so far in the league. How many other 27th picks in the draft average 24 points per game by their 4th limited season in the league.Â
Cam T has star potential and the Nets have not done enough in the past to develop him. The other issue is the talent around CT has been mediocre so all the defensive attention goes on Cam like double teams and the opposition's best defender. Or playing Cam next to Ben Simmons which means the opposition know Simmons isn't gonna shoot the ball so they don't bother defending him and instead they send two defenders at CT.
anfernee simons for Cam Thomas?
