I get the enthusiasm, but let’s temper our expectations a bit. There are injuries which you just cannot predict. That said, there are 3 players with minor injuries already. Second, there are a lot a new players on the squad and it’s going to take time to figure out how the pieces go together and how well they go together. There are also new coaches. And finally, we don’t know which players are going to step up.
In short, this season is going to come down to how well SA avoids the injury bug and how soon (and well) the team jells. This season is also going to answer a lot of questions. Is Mitch the right coach for this team? Bad rotations are not going to get a pass this year. Which players are going to remain part of the rebuild? What pieces are needed to truly contend? You brought in Fox and gave him a max contract. Hardly anyone expects SA to contend this year, but next year could be different.
This is going to be a fun, wild ride.
TMG would like to be excited about the Spurs. But ever since wussy Mitch was named to replace alpha male CIA Popovich, I just do not see what there is to be excited about except the possibility of Sean Sweeney replacing MJ next season.
The glory days of Pop-RC Buford are gone. I predict play-in and lottery in 2026.
Wemby-Sochan-Barnes-Castle-Fox would have been the starting unit if all were healthy.

I can’t wait for this season! I’m going to the open scrimmage this Saturday. I’m also going to the game vs the Grizzlies in Nov, hoping Wemby gets his revenge for Ja’s poster on him.
With wussy Mitch as HC, the only SIX (6) bright spots I see this season are 1) trading Vassell and his bloated contract; 2) Wemby winning DPOY and in the WemVP conversation; 3) an unstoppable Wemby-Fox PNR that gets both their second All Star nods; 4) Sochan and Castle developing an outside shot; 5) Harper winning Sixth Man of the Year award (and ROY if Flagg doesn't play 65 games); and 6) Carter Bryant being a 3&D star and replacing starter Harrison Barnes sometime w/in the year.

Spurs will wait on extending Sochan to see if he is the next Charles Bassey.
Spurs fans know that wussy Mitch was not great (understatement) with lineups over a SIX MONTHS sampling last season. It could be a disastrous start to the season if there are injury issues for the first six-eight weeks of the season.

I watched the first team scrimmage in its entirety. And I know it’s early, but there were a couple or worrying things and one BIG highlight. My concerns are shooting and injuries. In general, the 3 ball just wasn’t dropping for anyone. There is still time, but so far, I’m not convinced that SA has the consistent sniper they need. The other worry is injuries. Castle was guarding Wemby, things got a little physical and Castle got hurt. Haven’t heard of anything serious, maybe just a contusion, but it’s something you just don’t want to see.
The good news is Wemby. He is stronger and at times pushed Kornet around. I think we are going to see a more physical Wemby and a better shot selection because this version of him is not going to avoid going into the paint.
