The Knicks’ offense looks nothing like last year’s Brunson-heavy system and that’s a good thing. Coach Mike Brown is bringing in more movement, more spacing, and way more handoff and two-guard action designed to get downhill early and create clean looks.
I mentioned what Jordan Clarkson said 2 weeks ago, heres the quote: “All the guys know, when you throw it to me, it’s getting in the air. The majority of the time, I feel like I’m open, but it comes with a grain of salt. I know I gotta take good shots and play the right way as well.”
In this breakdown, we’ll look at:
🏀 How the two-guard front creates instant driving lanes
🔥 Why Brunson and KAT could become an unstoppable pairing
🌀 What’s working (and not) with Mitchell Robinson in the high post
💥 How this new motion compares to Thibodeau’s static sets
There’s a lot to love, but a few red flags. One thing’s clear: the Knicks are evolving into a modern, playoff-ready offense.

  1. It’s not about Brunson if this team can be a championship team, it’s about if kat can clean up on all the mistakes defensively

  2. I can genuinely see Mitchell Robinson/hart getting traded this year so they can pick up better shooters or floor generals. He just doesn’t fit into the scheme that brown wants to run. This would be good because Shamet can get more time and KAT and play the Sabonis role that Brown wants.

  3. To answer the title, yes, JB can make it work.

But the real question is whether this is a contender or pretender team.

In my opinion, this is a pretender. Brunson and Kat aren't no.1 scoring. They're 2nd scoring option, and their Achilles heel is their defense. It's bad.

In comparison, Okc didn't have otherworldly offense. Shai was their only consistent source of offense, and he isn't an elite defender (average to above defender. It's no insult, so don't cry) but they succeeded due to Shai consistency and their defense.

So the Knicks don't have the Alpha talent nor the elite defense because you can't with Brunson & Kat together. They'll win a lot of games, but no championship

  4. Brown is committed to play at a frantic pace , (His words) , this is not going to end well for the Knicks because they're built for a much slower game.

  5. It's a good thing they're getting ball movement in their offense but I don't know if coach brown's system is entirely the way to go. He is using Robinson as sabonis essentially and his kings team had a lot of playmaking guards unlike players like clarkson and brunson. It'll be interesting to see how they adapt going forward.

  6. Much more free-flowing, badly needed for a long time on these Knicks teams. They will figure out more sets, and how to play effectively together. But you can see the progress is there, and the offence is way less stagnant. This allows for more players to get involved, and when Kat or Brunson have big nights, it will make it so much easier for them with defenders scrambling around with so much player movement.
