Looking Back At The Damian Lillard Trade, 2 Years Later
In the 2023 NBA offseason we got a MASSIVE out of nowhere trade – the Milaukee Bucks shocked the league by being the team that traded for Damian Lillard, who had requested a trade for the Trailblazers that offseason… and unfortunately for the Bucks – the trade has been a completely disaster.

Now I wonder hypothetical if this happens to Steph 2 years ago will it end up same like dame ? Since dame is the closest to steph ?
This was A++ trade = celtics fans love it
The Lillard trade was a disaster for the Bucks organization, it likely is going to set our team back 5 or more years. I really wish our GM would have put some form of protections on those picks. Personally our GM should be fired. We are screwed if Giannis ever demands for a trade because there will be no way for our team to rebuild, and other teams picks will likely be worthless as they will be in late 20's. I wouldnt trust our GM to get good value back in a Giannis trade, knowing him he would trade Giannis for 1 second round pick and a washed player on a terrible comtract.
Portland got Dame back, so they got all those assets plus have him back
nobody in the right mind thought this was a good idea, nor the Bucks gonna go deep in playoffs with this highlights yet no results "superstar" that slipped to top75 all time simply because of his highlights only, now that he has played for Bucks, in the future looking back he's not even loyal like Dirk and Kobe, so really nothing special about his career than highlights reels.
As Bucks fan and watch almost ever game. The biggest problem was dame was a terrible defensively and yes offensely he was good but dame and Giannis in my opinion just had the ball to much and didn't get other teammates going, which is a why the bucks lost so many games because 2 people don't pass and for Dame being a point guard he needed to pass the ball as much as he needed too but took long 3 pointer constantly missing open shots and then when he got back on defense everyone attacked him because he can't defend like A drew holiday can which is why I think they have a great shot at winning this season they've got 2 great shooters and defenders in KPJ & GTJ plus a better younger center
The Celtics are the only team that won the Dame to Bucks trade.
Nobody is talking about how The Bucks just simply got worse and worse and older and older after their title. Poor coaching moves, aging players (Kris and Brook) who were not playing at championship level, Giannis not playing the same level of defense, Jrue not playing the level of offense they needed. No shit swapping Jrue for Dame wasn't going to magically fix everything. Everyone was injured, poorly coached and the organization idc what you say is in shambles right now.
Blazers are incompetent, as they couldn't fully capitalize Ayton, Brogdon & Rob Williams. However, MIL frontoffice is disaster. Dame blunder wouldn't be that bad if not other moves like signing Doc or getting Kuzma.
Lillard is not a bad player, he was just overhyped (Steph comparisons) and overpaid. And when you have top heavy team with 2 max players, you need perfect complementary pieces on bargain prices (vet minimums, rookie contracts, even stars on rookie ext). Also Lillard needed actual coach (not just guy yelling like coach) to fit him together with Giannis. Jimmy Butler is perfect plug-and-play guy, yoi can put him on Wolves, sixers, heat, warriors. Lillard is not such guy, bc of his limitations.
Dame complained about being in Milwaukee since Day 1. Even before he played one game, he was talking about a return to Portland. He truly never bought in. Instead taking shots at being in Milwaukee every opportunity he got. Dame never wanted to win. He just wanted to go to Miami or stay in Portland. When he didn't get that, he was planning a return to Portland. Dame and Giannis are a great duo but only if Dame was committed to winning.
Dame Lillard is a Future Chicago Bulls
Never did and never will understand how getting rid of Jrue holiday was ever an idea.
It was never a good fit to begin with because dame can’t play defend and Giannias isn’t a pick and roll player.
Im like, wow, how can Giannis not know how to do a pick n roll effectively?
I get the Bucks didn't have the best PG or any players that can do the pick n roll, but you'd think they'll do pick n roll as a simple strategy to have and use
Yes, Blazers got 2 starting forwards, Avdija and Camara for a 2-year rental of Dame, and, oh yeah, Milwaukee is paying his salary for the next 3 years.
There were obvious issues prior to the trade. Dame does not play defense; Jrue was a defensive monster. Also, Dame does not make others better. Knew this would be a disaster.
I honestly think they could’ve been a championship pairing if they had more perimeter defenders on the roster and Dame and Giannis could both be healthy in the playoffs at the same time.
Never trade for aging players being paid $ 40 / $ 50 million a season. Never works.
As a Blazers fan i reject the premise of this video entirely. It worked great.
Blazers traded Damian Lillard for:
Deni Advija
Toumani Camara
Damian Lillard
Multiple first round picks.
Not even going to talk about the substance of the video, just want to say thank you for completing your last sentence before ending the video 😂
This should be taken as a sign that sometimes the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. We went from “Dame needs to leave Portland” to “Dame should’ve never left” so quickly
Dame never scored 50 points once on the Bucks. This is the same guy who scored 70. Let that sink that.
Damn 2 years already is wild
Dame the Lame is overrated.
