Raptors-Nuggets Preseason REACTION | Brandon Ingram HOOPS, Scottie Barnes needs to find his role

The Toronto Raptors lost to the Denver Nuggets to open their preseason schedule in Vancouver on Monday night, but the real takeaway was how good Brandon Ingram looked! In Episode 1956, Sean Woodley and Vivek Jacob recap the Raptors’ 112-108 preseason loss to Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets on Monday that featured clean games from Brandon Ingram and RJ Barrett, some struggles for Scottie Barnes and the half court offense as a whole, and some really impressive work from the bench. Sean and Vivek dig into the process behind Ingram’s 19 points on 6/12 shooting and discuss the struggles of the rest of the starters on offense, before diving into some thoughts on how to better involve Scottie Barnes in the offense. Next, they dive into some huge overreactions to the opener. Is Sando Mamukelashvili about to win Sixth Man of the Year? Is Gradey Dick’s job under threat? And are the Raptors about to lead the NBA steals?! Move over OKC! Lastly, they run through The Good, The Bad and The Hmmmm from the first preseason game.

  1. CMB will be better than Barnes. His basketball IQ is probably the
highest on the team. Kid knows how to play.

  2. You guys think Scottie is the incredible player but he’s had trouble fitting his game with others. He fit well with RJ, because RJ’s the type of player that can adapt well to others.

  3. If Barnes can become a reliable 3 point shooter, both Ingram and rj would be solid running mates for him. They can both collapse the defense in their own ways and then kick out (obviously this would need some practice lol ) but that could be some easy point for Barnes. Most importantly it will preserve him throughout the season. My goal would be to limit Barnes workload as much as I could for if there is a sneak into the playoffs.. they would need him as fresh as possible to help cover some of the defensive assignments he would have to deal with that Ingram and RJ just can’t stop. Especially if he still has a lingering issue he is dealing with. Watching Quick in ny for years, lol when he’s ready, regardless of the offense, he’s going to get up 6 plus 3s a game lol there really isn’t a need for his rim pressure on this team so he should find himself open a lot from beyond the arch

  4. From someone whos watched bi for a while i wanna say this. People need to keep in mind those are the first real minutes of nba basketball hes played in almost 10 months. And on a new team with new teammates , casually drops 19 in 22 minutes on 50% from the floor. I can PROMISE you if this staff can keep his health in check id be SHOCKED if he isnt an all star this year. I thought rj played very well especially in working off actions with bi. Those 2 seem to have chemistry already. Far as barnes goes idk man. To be in year 5 and have no type of real go to move or expanded offensive bag is concerning. But the raps obviously know this or they wouldnt have gone after brandon. If scotty can be a solid 17 ppg 3rd option i think the raptors can suprise people

  5. To be fair I haven’t listened to the episode yet, but man did Scottie look so disappointing yet again, I get he anchors our defense blah blah no one defends like Scottie, but you either have it or you don’t man, it’s been almost 4 years, Scottie is not that guy on a winning team, how many years of, it’s just one game, oh injuries, oh this oh that, how many excuses does Scottie get, whoever made that original draymond comparison had the binoculars of the future, we’d be lucky to get draymond out of Scottie

  6. This team needs 2 good Centers to build around. Tonight we had 0 C's and it showed. Raptors game introduced Sandro as standing 6'9 and that also showed. He was way to small to battle Jokic under the basket.

  7. I was pleased with Ja’Kobes game lastnight. He mixed up his game a lot and kept good pace . Gradey is still horrible with moving his feet. 🦖

  8. Lots of talk at the end there about 3pt. Shooting. It's interesting how noone mentioned RJ's 3 of 6, 50% from deep. Hmmmmm.

  9. I'm gonna say it ten thousand times, this starting lineup with a low usage 3+D guy instead of RJ makes a ton more sense on both ends. People are going to say that RJ played well with Ingram and they're correct but it doesn't optimize the whole team. I need Barnes with the ball in his hands more. I'm going to say it one thousand times if needed, this starting lineup is not well balanced on both ends, it's going to keep underachieving if this obvious change doesn't take place. RJ is a good player and objectively played well on Monday, but I don't think it's putting the whole team in the best position honestly. I'm saying it in advance, politics are going to ruin this team if they let it.

  10. Actually, with RJ and BI this was no different than the Pascal/Scottie pairing because the issue then was who will be your 3rd scoring partner. Now you are looking for who will score with RJ and BI. You have Scottie holding down a defensive role and when Jacob comes back he will hold a defensive role too. So we have to find that 3rd scorer.
