All the talking heads so far seem to miss the point of Podz. Podz is a GLUE guy. Like Melton, Draymond & Jimmy. Like what Warriors tried with Shroeder, Chris Paul and Saric. Glue guys give up zero weakness on defense + they are tasked with reading the chaos created by the Kerr Motion offense and pick which player got the split second advantage. While minimizing turnovers. Kerr is trying to get more Draymonds. Because Dray burns out quickly. Either from going 140% on defense or emotionally boiling over and treating opposing players as MMA training dummies. Podz is special because Glue guys should be able to call their own number instead of just facilitating. And as a release valve guy, Podz is decent at creating a last 2 second shot when nothing is happening. Attacking, floaters, running hook, middie and 3ball. Podz desperation heaves are far more efficient than Draymond's. Or Kuminga's. Using him as a release valve for 50% of the game gives Butler and Steph a chance to save all their hero points in clutch minutes or playoff 4th quarters or Finals games. For that same reason, I'm hoping Melton stays healthy 95% of the season. That will really preserve our Death Lineup (Horford, Butler, Steph, Draymond & Hield/Moody).
So to recap: Yes to more Podz shots. Because he doesn't force them like Kuminga but uses the first 20 seconds to run the offense, and the last seconds to make something out of nothing. And if that lowers his fg%, so what? It's still higher than ZERO attempts and better than a TURNOVER/Shot Clock Violation.
JK two years ago in the preseason was scoring 20 points consistently. You have to wonder if he did any work over the summer over fall?
Nitpicking Kuminga for his stats as a Shawn Marion type player while ignoring his drive and kick gravity on a team with “no horses” is the kind of analysis that feels reactionary
Pods was able to play minutes to grow kuminga couldn’t
I feel like we saw enough of Lj cryer and he can’t hold up unfortunately. He literally bounced off bronny
Kuminga needs to go to the paint every time a shot goes up from either team including his own shot and he will at least have a few rebounds a game and offensive board buckets a game by just doing that. That's just a fundamental technique to get rebounds and if you mix that with his size, tenacity and athletism he'll be grabbing at least 6 rebounds a game. He should never have a zero rebound game ever again playing 20+ minutes, preseason or regular season.
