Jaylen Wells shows bright spots in otherwise dreary Grizzlies NBA preseason game with Celtics
The Memphis Grizzlies – without Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., Zach Edey and many others – lost to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night. It was a “meaningless” NBA preseason game…but Host Joe Mullinax argues that Memphis missed an opportunity beyond Jaylen Wells’ growth to get better on this episode of Locked on Grizzlies!

Wells was incredible. He’s showing that he has the ability to be more than just a spot up. I don’t expect him to do what he did last night consistently. But a play or 2 of that when Ja has a lot of pressure on him? Perfection.
Well Isalo did it for a reason. He wanted to see what all of these guys were capable of.
HOWEVER, I don’t think it was smart to not have any point guards out there except for Javon Smalls.
I get what you mean in the first segment Joe.
But we wouldn’t have seen what we saw from Wells if he didn’t do that. He was expecting that from more than just Wells. He expected that from GG. Maybe Coward too.
It’s one preseason game.
You said it’s not worth experimenting during the regular season so he’s doing it now.
Unless we make a trade there’s no one replacement for Bane. Multiple players to replace what he gave us and more? Maybe. (The more is mostly defense)
I need everyone to hold Santi accountable. We need more from him.
Im getting black air force 1 vibes from Vince…
Cam Spencer had a good game too
I understand wanting to give everyone a look. But….Lovering? How is he in the league, I am including the G league
Ced will be okay. They will send him to the hustle for a couple of games.
Joe knock it off lol Ja does need to play preseason. He hasn’t done anything in the league to be sitting out. He needs to get his team prepared because like you said without him the season is over
Reach! they were clearly pacing guys that they believe are gonna be big contributors to the season especially with 3/5 of the starters already out due to injury nothing wrong with that.
I’m scratching my head with this one too.
With how new the system is, the only thing I can think of that would make any kind of sense is that Tuomas had some important things he wanted to address in practice before giving it a full go with all the best players, so he used this as a kind of throwaway game where absolutely everyone got a shot to show what they could do.
Only the strong survive..Throw the ass to the wolves we know what we got with the vets… let’s see what the youngins got against some good Comp… the vets will most likely play Saturday… it was just a test to gather Intel
5:20 I watched the whole game and it was clear to me that CC played very differently in the first 42 and last 5 minutes of the game. At the end of the game, he started taking control of his team, demanding more often opportunities to score. He even tried to post up some guy the way he did in his previous years but they didnt pass him the ball in that play. That's the way for him to get better I think, just get repetitions. The fact he hasnt played for such a long time is so important for a 22 year old rookie.
This is the dumbest organization I have ever seen. For years I believed the chess was coming and was always left going, huh?!?!
Why do we want to see G league? Why not get sea legs under, umm, you know, THE GUYS WHO WILL ACTUALLY PLAY ON THE REGULAR SEASON TEAM?!?!
It’s like the Memphis Grizzlies org knows something that nobody else does. Is a meteor going to hit in a few days?
Unfortunately, this is a dumb organization. They are not playing chess. It’s not even checkers.
13:42 you can perfectly get to the finals with that five, look at the pacers: solid colective team, they only had two stars and they reached the finals, almost won.
Cam needs more time playing also some players should be. Played kcp x ty x londale
I would like to think that was a last chance effort barring injuries for some guys to make the rotation. Hoping coach just wanted to make sure he was good with the pecking order and the next game makes more sense rolling in to the season.
I agree with the coach and most of the lockedongrizzlies. With injuries, we have to see what we have. Who will step up and be the facilitator or rebounder. What I got from that game is that some players are playing themselves out of the rotation. Coach was looking for someone he could depend on against the other team rotation, not their summer league roster. So fans, let's not be mad when GG, Smalls, or Williams Jr. are not getting meaningful minutes. The opportunity was there in practice, summer league and now pre-season.
I won’t say Joe is wrong but I don’t have an issue with it. I wanted Small to get minutes to see where he is. One game isn’t going to make a difference. This game gave others a chance to step up. If Ja is out and Jerome/Pippen gets in foul trouble, who steps up?
When DaMichael asked the question about Vince’s health and he said 90%, had not another reporter asked what was keeping him from 100% which he said playing against opponents, he was going to leave that answer how he said it. Something is not right.. either the ankle is still an issue or his mental isn’t there (it seems)
Not mentioning Wells’ mid range game is crazy
Vince William again no show.. hope he improves!!
What I have noticed this two games, and improved defense and effort in that side by GG Jackson. And Coward as a board contributor
