The Rockets Already Found Their Point Guard — And Nobody’s Noticed

With Fred VanVleet sidelined, the Houston Rockets have quietly handed the keys to Alperen Şengün — and the results speak for themselves. Şengün’s playmaking, poise, and overseas experience have turned him into the true point guard of this young Rockets team. Add Kevin Durant’s veteran presence and the development of Houston’s young core, and this offense is starting to look dangerously complete.

This is why people haven’t realized the Rockets already found their point guard.

  1. Sengun is a playmaking genius. He reads the game better than any other player. He finds the opponents weaknesses instanly. On top if his masterclass assists, his secondary assists are lethal. He is also one of the top screen assister in the league.

  2. JD Davison is on a 2 way contract but he looks completely ready to play significant minutes at PG. The offense has run the smoothest when Davison has been at PG

  3. 💯 correct. People just understand how high his IQ and unselfishness is and still getting better. I live in Europe, watched Eurobasket and wondered how Durant will fit in with his Senguns growing game. Well KD's 20 points with Sengun's THIRTEEN assists in their first 28 mins tells me all I need to know. They don't need a Sheppard or Vanvleet that much. People are still sleeping. I'm glad you're not.

  4. KD is 37 years old. They need him in the playoffs to do the things Jalen Green couldnt do. They have to safe him from back to back games. Didnt let him play against weak opponents they are fine without him. Let Alpi cook. He will make everybody better including KD. He can make passes smaller guards cant do simply because of his size and height. Even with FVV Alpi has to touch the ball whenever he can. Sometimes he is too playfull because of his age but the older he gets his plays/passes gets more simple. Sometimes especially in the pos you have to take lesser risks and play more simple. If you have got off ball movements/off ball screens cuts to the basket he will find you! In order to describe him he is not just a Jokic clone he is different. More agile/better athlete and a better defender. More aggressive outside the paint with the ball. He has to show up in the crucial moments an be at least a 35/36 percent 3 point shooter. His middie is fine. He is improving on that. Even i think he will be more of a passer than a finisher this season.
