Nice to hear some balanced analysis. Hopefully the experimenting turns into more power posts moves & drives to get free throws when the games count in the regular season. There's no reason he can't get more free throws like a younger Julius Randle.
I think there is practice when you do this. Then there are practice games – preseason when you practice real games. Can you do exploration in tanks end of the year sure. But getting ready for the year really matters. I wonder what Greg Pop would say about when to develop vs when to go play for real? I think most high level coaches would say you can’t just flip a switch but you have to practice a lot of real world.
Same thing happens in MMA when a fighter gets a big pay movie deal. They turn soft because they lose the drive to succeed. It's harder to wake up at 5 am everyday and train. When you sleeping on giant bags of money. Soon as a Raptor player has a commercial on TV they about to tank.
Yeah….. it’s preseason; patience is definitely going to be needed throughout this season as it could take some time for Scotty to work out his role on this team
It looked like Scottie was carrying a bunch of bench players, at which point it's probably reasonable that he's trying for more mid-range and fadeaway plays because less is available. I think when he and BI get more playing time together, he will shift into more of an off-ball + playmaking role.
When scottie goes hard in the paint he gets his hands hurt. I think he's afraid of using his greatest strengths for fear of injury.

I got done with overreacting to preseason when Nick Nurse in the post-Kawhi era had us looking like champs again with the gamble-on-everything defense only to fall apart 3 weeks into the regular season. 2 preseason games is nothing. He's been asked to make the biggest shift in his game of everyone on the roster. He'll be fine.

Scottie Barnes had very noticeably received a green light to work his j in live game situations ever since Immanuel Quickley sustained injury last season. it is no surprise it continues in the preseason follow up. players of Scottie Barnes caliber and roll require a reliable jumper to fill out the demands of a sustainable all star run throughout a career. Scottie Barnes is a going to accomplish that goal. next subject. keep it moving.
I'm Definitely overreacting; but what if Scottie thinks he may get traded? Which is why this behaviour is present? I mean it's been a while now and still no clear role for Scottie its always a bit of this a bit of that. Is he no 1? or a no 2. What's his shot selection gonna be etc etc.

Someone pointed out he might be straying away from going at the rim because of the injuries. If thats the case, that sucks cause thats really his biggest strength..
If Scottie doesn’t prove himself midway through this season we gotta trade him.

As you said at some point, this might be just last season dripping into preseason (since it doesn't matter). As a huge fan and believer since day one, I'm going to give Scottie the benefit of the doubt one last time and believe he will stick to his strengths once the season starts. He's hella smart, and he said it himself that there is no more time to experiment, so I truly believe he will go back to destroy mismatches and look to get more paint touches.
Why would any sane person freak out while watching the runners stretching and warming up to run a 4 hour matathon? Do sane people freak out during the first 5 minutes of a 4 hour marathon? Stop responding to what insane people are saying or you too will become insane

I will be more concerned after 10 games. And in game 25, I’ll start judging and maybe selling my Scottie Barnes products (maybe, probably not, but let’s not get there) I value his defence first and willing to facilitate and wanting to win.
Three videos coming out of raptors republic & hello/welcome, screaming panic panic…on 40 mins of no meaning preseason time….all because Scottie is not going to paint in these meaningless preseason games. It's insane man. is it possible may be Scottie is trying to reduce the likelihood of an injury? Remember we lost RJ & Ja'Kobe to Valanciunas's screen in a preseason game? I think he regressed a lil because y'all crowned him a great player to quickly he a good player still developing and I think it was a distraction and being so negative towards RJ instead of building on what he did last season
When he was a rookie he was more aggressive and capable getting into the paint, I thought he was going to be a star. This is very disappointing. You can say it's just preseason but he's looked bad more often than not going back to last season as well as his second season. I'm starting to wonder what he does in the offseason, or if his intellect is severely lacking (which seems to be the case, judging by his inability to articulate himself). Amazing human, 3rd best player on the Raptors behind CMB and BI.
