You clearly don't remember that we played the first game of the preseason tournament against Atlanta with a full roster (except for Durant)! That last one wasn't a real NBA game for either team, but a friendly to see who would be cut and who would be kept on the bench.
The Rockets are trying to polish up Reed and Holiday, (and even if possible Tate) so they can sell them, so Atlanta knew that and played it as a G-league game tried to avoid any preseason injuries.
If (Tari and) Reed were playing good defense, opposing guards and forwards wouldn't be shooting threes and diving under the basket with such ease in, every game the Rockets eat 100+ which is unacceptable!
Reed Sheppard's ceiling in 3-4 years is that he could become a second Aaron Holiday, and there's no way he'll ever be able to play point guard with his low IQ..! Just like Holiday, both are mediocre shooters who lack physicality on both offense and defense, nothing more. Even JD Davison will undoubtedly have a much more successful NBA career than Reed.

Reed could be a John Stockton type defensive player at the same size. One of the great steal leaders of his time.

This is a disgrace and unfair to say Reed cant become a good defender. The list of players his size and shorter that are solid defenders in this league is very long. I fact the league is full of tall dudes that are really bad defenders so, what is the obsession disregarding Reed?
Reed had a hell of a game, especially being the Rockets played none of their starters and the Hawks played most of theirs. Reed is definitely capable of being a solid defender. What the hell is this guy talking about. And he actually fills up the stat sheet in several defensive categories. He gave the Rockets exactly what they are looking for and what they expect. He’s not being asked to carry the team. Just give them that solid play from the point guard position. He’s very athletic and can shoot. If he breaks out and becomes that player the Rockets expect, this takes them into another level
