The NBA Forgot THIS About The Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks still might be a winning team despite trading Luka Doncic. The Mavs landed Cooper Flagg who is one of the best rookies to enter the NBA over the past couple years and Dallas also have bonafide veteran superstars in Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson, together with a lengthy roster that has a ton of reliable bench pieces. The Chicago Bulls are evolving into one of the most promising teams in the NBA. A lot of analysts expect the Mavs to find themselves at the bottom of the Western Conference after the Luka Doncic trade but this team can actually exceed expectations. Cooper Flagg is the early rookie of the year favorite, while Anthony Davis is on a mission to orchestrate a redemption season in Dallas.

But overall, it is the Mavs defense that could really help them become contenders. It’s only been one year since they traded a generational superstar but don’t be shocked if the Mavs exceed expectations next season especially once Kyrie comes back, as this team is actually well positioned to be much much better than where most NBA predictions actually place them. The odds place the Mavs over under expected win total for next season at just 41.5 games, which ranks 16th in the entire NBA and only 9th in the Western Conference, and to me, this is a criminally low projection because as we’ve learned in the past, teams can actually win a lot of regular season games with a strong defense alone.

Barring another series of unfortunate injuries, Dallas is guaranteed to always have at least one capable defensive anchor on the floor for 48 minutes every game, and when they are all healthy, this Mavs team will also have the luxury of deploying various double big man configurations that could amplify their defense. Basically, that’s a ton of high-level defenders who Jason Kidd will have in his rotation and given all that blend of size, depth and positional rim protection, I think the Mavs could easily be a top-5 defense next season.

  1. The potential lineup and depth is sickening. Yes, they are going to do better than the rest of the league think. Too much underestimated talent.
