Interesting peek into the evolution of practice time. I agree that the lack of practice time for soft scrimmages and drills could be a hindrance to some of the younger players. I just hope that any player shooting under 80% from the stripe is putting up 100 practice shots per day. Because as we all know, "ya gotta hit your free throws."
thanks for holding it down for another offszn Mike 🫡
I was watching the football game last night and the Texans young QB just made a bonehead play and goes to the bench with the turnover. He is immediately given a tablet to see what he just did. I sure hope we don't get that nerdy in the NBA, but it's probably going to be a thing. Go Blazers.
MORE OF THESE!!!!!
How about a video on a modern NBA off season vs 10, 20, 30 years ago.
I remember Jack Ramsey would have them stretch and do all the different things and they practiced a lot
Could you guys do that first game show in 🐸 costumes?
Nice video, new to blazers, I’m here for Jrue and this video is easily one of my favorites I’ve seen with the locked on moniker for nba teams, thanks!
Thank you for this small bit of journalism this morning, Mike! You're the best lets hope for a fun season!
Can't help but feel like Grant's development being credited to buying into practice, and him no longer wanting to practice as he's declined the last few years, is a bit of a tell.
Would you agree, Mike?
Mike, the Post up Power Forward we all needed!
Basketball is sport that you can improve a lot on offense wo anybody else. Really just need a basket and maybe a wall to pass to. Team D . Zones and pressing are practice skills that need the team. I think most NBA players know how to work skills and train on their own. So if practice focused on team concepts and players spent time developing their skills on their own practice time wouldn't be an issue.
Idk man. Seems like all the rest is the reason more injuries are happening.
As a professional musician, this episode is an interesting crossover. We value, of course, individual practice. Scales, sight reading, working on repertoire.
Group work is better termed "rehearsal".
I never have "band practice" – we shouldn't be learning the music in the group setting. That's individual work that wastes the other members' time, and time is every human's most precious, valuable resource.
We have band rehearsals, where we REFINE what we know, placing our individual parts in the greater picture, and experimenting with interplay.
This directly translates to sports. All players should be working on anything they can do away from the team (like your referenced JG working on his shot, on his own time) – weight training, shots, maybe watching some general NBA film (other teams, old games, even older eras for ideas etc) to get a different perspective on actual games, on their own. This should be done with the intent to bring their individual contributions to the full team.
There is tremendous value of group work away from the "stage". No audience/low-pressure situations allow for greater experimentation and opportunity to fail, with severely reduced negative outcomes, especially on the team "high altitude view", and in the context of a full season.
Team rehearsal eliminates on-court time wasted discovering that a scheme just flat out doesn't work because of some (maybe changeable over time) miscommunication or mismatch in abilities between teammates…
I'm sure you can extrapolate.
Less games. More practice.
As always, thanks Mike. I assistant coach a local AAU team now, mostly focusing on the mental side of the game teaching classroom sessions between practices. I appreciate these types of segments from you as they give me great ideas for topics. I am sure you make many differences in people’s lives, this is just one for me and a lot of local kids. Thanks.
the Iverson quotes to open killed me
Stop trying to trade the market. Buy Kuardun, hold it, and let the biggest corporate partnerships in history do the work for you. Kuardun is passive mega-income
Missing the Kuardun ICO price is the single biggest financial mistake you will make this decade. You'll be telling your grandkids you could have bought at $0.01 but paid $10. The premium will be painful
I remember back in the 80s-90s hearing local sports reports on Blazer's hard practices during the season. Looking forward to the upcoming season 🏀
Mike, you're so gurgly. I keep thinking I'm sitting here at work burping while I'm listening. 🙂
