The Philadelphia 76ers got a combined 74 points from Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe as the Sixers made a fourth quarter comeback to secure the HUGE opening night road win over the Boston Celtics, 117-116. Edgecombe was phenomenal in his debut with 34 points, setting a new franchise record for most points in an NBA debut. After just three points in the first quarter, Maxey dropped 37 the rest of the way to lead all scorers with 40, plus 7 for 9 from beyond. Dominick Barlow got the start at power forward, adding 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Joel Embiid struggled on the night, finishing with just four points on 1 for 9 shooting in 20 minutes.

Imagine Morey didn’t extend Embiid and he was on an expiring contract right now . My god the future would have been bright. Joel’s lift and quickness is completely gone. He is beyond washed. Being healthy is different than still having the ability.

What a pleasure to watch that debut!!!! A ⭐️ in the making
Crazy inaccurate analysis of Joel's game. 1) In the 3rd he got the ball like a whopping 3 times in the post and just like almost the whole game whenever he got the ball in the post, he was DOUBLED and passed to his teammates. Since he is not surrounded by pure shooters, literally almost every time but especially in the third, his teammates missed wide open set shots. That was the difference in the 3rd. 2) Joel simply shot the ball bad but had good shots. 3) Joel did NOT do the initial tip off jump. Clearly they are making it a point to limit his jumping to conserve himself (this is an issue that may need to be reevaluated. 4) He was NOT a liability on side-to-side defense – he moved well for the most part … SUMMARY – The game plan was NOT to get Joel the ball at all costs. The game plan was for Maxey and the guards. Even so, Embiid commanded double teams unlike the guards and the guards and other teammates were unable to capitalize on wide open shots as normal. The guards had a lot of points but jacked up a lot of shots, were inefficient and barely beat a poor celtics team where Tatum didn't play, Jaylen Brown was OK and White was uncharacteristically horrible. VJ and Maxey are very encouraging but without a better mesh with Embiid, this team is not a contender.
I'd trade Embiid (if you can) as soon as he appears slightly healthy
