The Denver Nuggets opened up the NBA Cup on Halloween night in a very odd game against the Portland Trailblazers. After starting well and losing momentum after a near 20 minute delay due to technical issues the Nuggets and Blazers fought back and forth in a dogfight. The Nuggets lose in the final moments on some questionable officiating. What can we take away from the loss? This game was a not perfect game for the nuggets but here is what stood out to me
1. David Adelman and Jokic needs to involve Cam more. He is not Jamal but Cam can handle ,pass and shoot the ball off the dribble. It's bonkers every time Jamal isn't in the game Jokic goes to CB for a two man game, CB Cant even shoot off the dribble, his biggest strength is transition not half court offence. Cam is not a catch and shoot guy, he is a rhythm guy by watching him in Brooklyn. Jokic needs to look for him more not CB. I cant believe they are treating Cam to the MPJr role
Cam needs to be the third option, not Gordon not CB. Cam
2. This team needs better ball handlers, especially come playoff time. Its still a weakness
But my main concern to me is how they are using cam Johnson , I watched Cam last year drop 30 against the nuggets and look how he played it was all rhythm not catch and shoot from corners, so Cam has potential, but for some reason Gordon and CB are taking more shots than him.
When they traded for Cam Johnson i thought this team will be hell defending because they can create from the strong side and weak side.
If come playoff time Jokic is looking to CB for a two man action against warriors or thunder, its bye bye
(SHOOTING) guard that can't shoot in 2025, getting 25m a year you would think he's at least an all nba defender or top tier playmaker ? no just for some wide open transition buckets it's not even just the shooting he can't even make a basic pass it's just like he's 5 seconds behind doesn't matter if you have 4 out of 5 high
IQ players on the floor if 1 can't make reads it messes up the whole ball movement as soon as he touches the ball hurting the offence in many ways and not providing enough defensively I hope things turn around for him but right now there are players on the bench who are deserving more minutes over him
These dudes donāt hold jokic accountable for anything lol but always calling out Murray , he shouldāve had the ball in the 4th not jokic

We are not a championship team. Said it before (triggering the casuals): repeating it āBraun and Cam are cheeks.
You cannot expect Jokic to always pull the team out of defeat. He has been doing it for years. The team is simply not well-coordinated. The coach is not up to the task and neither is the skilled staff.

I'm a Blazer fan and I mean, if I could tell you how many times that was us, well, it was more times than all our injuries. Good game though. Joker almost had it… with that last roll, I was sure we were going to overtime. I will say this though: the last foul on Jeremy grant was a foul. Absolutely. But the jump ball was low key sus.
This loss was obviously annoying but It's the NBA Cup and it's still the first quarter of the season best to get the dumb losses out of the way early.
Refs in the NBA AND NFL look more crooked than ever. To ol girl, that is not the way you get people to feel confident about a female officiating in a men's league. Just sayin'.
The nuggets play fair and then get punished for it. That jumpball call was insane and yet the game just felt like some bs call was gonna happen

Everybody crying about the last 10 seconds first of all if jokic wouldnt take only 10 shots nuggets would win wake the tf up jokic put the f ball in the hoop
We need a reminder every 5 or 6 games to not be over confident, plus now we can probably try harder in our other cup games knowing we have a loss already and miss the extra game.
I think I might have to stop watching the show. CB isn't right currently but its pretty disgusting how so many "Nuggets fans" hate CB after they celebrated keeping him weeks ago. Not the channels fault there are so many weak men who have given up already on something we all agreed was good weeks ago, but if I wanted to hear immature boys being immature I'd probably just go to my friends house who has multiple toddlers and listen to them complain about Paw Patrol or Bluey in equally childish arguments.
Apparently the NBA is going to give refs headsets to wear during the games. Itās to give real time information to refs from the bookmakers.
I don't know how you can criticize Jokic in this game. He had a brutal game and was the main reason why the Nuggets lost against the Warriors, but today he did everything right. He was a +17 before entering in the 4th. The team looked GREAT when he played. He didn't get shots because of SOOO many silly unnecessary turnovers by AG + CB. You can't have that many wasted possessions.
Real big takeway is that the Nuggets need to put Jokic in with the second unit, NOT Jamal. Even with Murray's great start, he's still not a pure PG. The second unit looked great with Jokic in the 3rd. Let Jokic play with P Wat/Bruce/Tim Hardaway and the the team will keep flowing. The second unit stretch in the 2nd quarter + the start of the 4th were rough and it's going to keep happening until the Nuggets make the switch.
If Adelman doesn't learn during the course of the season that Hardaway needs to be closing these games he should be fired immediately. Coaching malpractice.

CB and cam Johnson were complete dogshit. Bad coaching, bad officiating. Jokic could have been in more aggressive but he shouldn't have to be with the depth of this team

I have called out Adelman since he replaced the guy I called for 5 years. Now I am also calling CB which I am not sure is an nba player anymore after I wasn't sure he was a starter on any nba team. The guy is a definition of an energy bench guy . This guy makes MPJ look like best deal in the nba. Can they trade CB for MPJ? Why did they give 5 years contract to one dimensional player? Jokic surely has exit strategy now.

The reason I don't watch this show is because of Adam . The only reason I clicked is to see if it's going to giggle like a little girl for no reason.
Jok needed to be more aggressive, 16 sloppy turnovers/lost the possession battle, and 6 from 25 from three. Refs or other shenanigans aside, you're not winning many games playing like that. Rough game for the Nuggets.

I donāt understand why the starting line up has to be the same every day. Big Val could have played today in the starting line up to box out Clingan that would free up Jokic to get more defensive rebounds. Watsonās length could have also helped in the starting line up instead of Gordon or Braun. Adelman is not innovative enough!
There can't be different rules for different teams. A foul is a foul regardless of if it's small vs big, and the fact that the reffs are constantly acting like extra opponents will make this season much more difficult for the Nuggets.
The rotation at the end of the third quarter is their best with Watson and Johnson at forward, THJ and Brown at guard with Jokic at center. They play and hustle for each other. Murray, Gordon and Braun seem bothered and have negative body language when they are on the court especially when they are playing a team like Portland with long athletic players.
Nuggets cannot continue to use Cam Johnson like they've been using MPJ. The coaching staff needs to run plays for him or use him as a decoy effectively to get open looks for others. CB needs to figure it out by starting to shoot more 3s and letting it fly. It's easy to game plan for a SG who isn't willing to shoot. If he's not comfortable with shooting 3s or even just simple mid-range shots when given space, then we have a problem. Also, Portland and Warriors have both deployed size and athletic defenders against Denver. Nuggets need to do the same. I'm starting to think we should just let Peyton Watson close out each game with the starters and play him as the 6th starter on the team. Watson is the only player who provides real defensive impact on the team right now.
