The only reason Giddey was even available 1 for 1 for a 30 year old role player was the Thunder had no role for him. His objective ability was much higher than what people were saying, he was the best player in the deal and nearly 10 years younger. If OKC didn't have a certain roster construction and needs the BULLS would have needed to give up picks.

People chronically overrate Caruso. He is a very solid 30+ year old role player. I still can't understand why people think the Bulls should have got more in the trade. Giddey was clearly an elite prospect when at OKC but they wanted the ball in Shai's hands more. So they gave up a stud and future all star for a role player. Giddey is multiple times better than Caruso and the Bulls won that trade then, now and for 10+ years in the future.
It's strange that the Bulls basically did addition by substraction by trading Zach LaVine and letting DeMar DeRozan walk. Now, Josh Giddey can just play point guard, Matas Buzelis can develop and Vucevic can do his usual thing by spacing the floor. Chicago might not keep up this level of success but they might still still finish top six in the East.
Coby is injured and in those 2 games against knicks and sixers the whole team is relied way too much on giddey to generate offense and scoring because currently they dont have a shot creator and those 2 games they clearly needed coby White's scoring. For the past years coby White improved his defense and playmaking, if you compared his first two seasons with this team he's only good at scoring and terrible in both defense and playmaking. Don't get me wrong he isnt a lock down defender but he can hold himself and not afraid to take a charge even if its embiid which he did take in the past, not a single player in this current roster in this who are willing to take charge except those players who recently traded. The reason why nikola vucevic was terrible all those years is because lavine and derozan's inability to run plays and having a hard time recognizing that he's got a mismatch in the low post, too much isolation plays.
Giddey is for real what everyone expect of him as a prospect the team as a whole around him seems like really good team ball this unit is going to hit a wall 4-6 seed limbo
