Sandro Mamukelashvili is solving EVERYTHING for the Raptors

Sandro Mamukelashvilli signed a minimum contract with Toronto with a player option for 2026-2027. The only problem is Jakob Poeltl’s injury has thurst Mamu into a role that has exposed what some of us thought would happen all along–he’s become one of the 5 most important players on the team, and is doing something for Scottie Barnes that no big in Raptors history has been successfully able to do. He’s unlocking him.

With Mamu on the court, Barnes is averaging 46 points per 100 possessions. This rate, should it hold up across the season, would put Barnes’ scoring rate above all but ONE Michael Jordan season–and Jordan was arguably the greatest scorer in league history.

What’s clear is that Mamu works. What’s not is what it means for his longterm future in Toronto, the Raptors long-term vision for him, and perhaps what his metamorphosis demonstrates to the Raptors front office regarding Jakob Poeltl’s future place on this team. What’s also perhaps MOST tantalizing is that Mamu is not even one of the 15 best player of his archetype in the NBA.

The Raptors may consider this experiment as a demonstration for what this offense looks like with a player like Lauri… and with the Jazz now missing their starting center for the rest of the year, this may be an ideal time to finally make the plunge and make the long-awaited Lauri trade we’ve all been asking for.
