Why Josh Giddey is the NBA’s Most Confusing Player

Why Josh Giddey is the NBA’s Most Confusing Player

Josh Giddey might just be the most confusing player in the NBA. At 6’8”, he’s a true point guard with elite passing vision and rebounding ability — yet he’s known for being both a poor shooter and a questionable defender. After being traded to the Chicago Bulls, Giddey suddenly exploded — averaging 20+ points, 9.5 rebounds, and 8.3 assists over his final 24 games, notching 7 triple-doubles and even hitting one of the wildest game-winners of the season.

But can the Bulls actually build a contender around him? Or is Giddey too unorthodox to fit a traditional NBA system?

  2. Giddey is a poor man's white Magic Johnson. The similarities are astonishing actually. I'm an OKC fan and I was absolutely shocked and pissed we made that trade for Caruso and I've been getting ripped on message boards and youtube for my stance. Turns out I clearly was 100% right when you look at what he's doing since the all star break last year. OKC got absolutely fleeced in that trade.

  3. So far this year, he's an all NBA and All star. If he continues being 20-9-8, I easily see him being an all star

  4. Titles will tell, he is certainly unique and that makes it hard for diehards to fit him in a box. Moneyball is a perfect example in MLB.

  5. The Bulls are the best college team in the NBA. And the league is going to hate us for it. When Coby White comes back…nobody will be able to keep up.

  6. The Bulls offense moves when the ball is in his hands. Good enough for me.
What he lacks in agility on defense, he almost makes up for with his height. Almost. But he's not the enormous defensive liability that many claim. And I actually see him pushing more effort on that side of the ball this year, which is a good sign.

  7. This is a great breakdown on giddy. As much as I love the guy, it feels like he's a little rushed and forces plays at times. But it seems to work for him. You put into words why he looks a little weird compared to other players at times.
    Still love him though 😂

  8. He’s only confusing to Americans who can’t see talent in white international players…for eg, he’s absolutely killing it and you’re like: ‘bruh, is he maybe not terrible?’

    You know what you are

  9. Australian basketball once had a star called Andrew Gaze. Not super athletic but blessed with an amazing basketball brain. Giddey is cut from the same cloth.

  10. Going to love watching Giddy and Daniels backcourt for the Boomers for the next 10 years plus. Improving every year.

  11. I've been watching Giddey play for the boomers and the bulls. When Giddey is on the court and bring the ball down the floor, for the most part, the point differential improves. When he's off it goes the other direction. It might not look fancy, but what he does wins games. Giddey defense also lacks because he can't rack up fouls like other players. He's too valuable to be on the bench.

  12. The Sixers were gassed last night because of the run and gun. The Giddey pass to Vuc for the game winner was incredible. He is an All Star this year!

  13. The numbers are pretty simple – Giddey makes teams better – he helped OKC grow to the point they were close to the title and has helped the Bulls become relevant again after a long time in the doldrums. He has flaws but most everybody does, His defence is better than he is credited for the rebounds sum that up and his sheer size means people dont try to shoot over him that much – he's not Dyson Daniels but he's not useless either. As for his shooting – he keeps getting double doubles and triple doubles – you dont do that if you are terrible offensively. His shooting efficiency again backs that assertion up as he doesn't have bad shooting percentages. People want to say negative stuff but the numbers dont back that up – he's imperfect but still better than 90% of the players in the league perhaps even a higher percentage judging on this years play and the last 20 odd games last year. Imagine for a moment that the Bulls had better front court depth … we would be asking are the Bulls a chance to win the title. They are literally 2 front court players away from being a legit threat for the title and those players dont need to be brilliant – just good enough to help in the paint. As is they probably dont have the depth at PF and C to challenge at the pointy end of the season but they do have a side good enough to get to the playoffs and worry some teams

  14. I'm watching Giddey get better every game. He is a star. Look at all his stats, the records he already has for his age. If the kid were American the story would be different.

  15. The beautiful part about his game is he doesn’t have to play iso ball then pass off to get assists. His vision is unreal.

  16. Seems like a talented young guy with enormous potential… it's one thing if he has weaknesses and an attitude, but if he's improving all the time, then he's demonstrably coachable. Good investment for the Bulls from this perspective. Plus, let's face it- there's an element of marketability with sponsors in a fun-to-watch player who can generate interest and excitement… (for e.g. in the closing minute, can sink a basket from half court!)

  17. 6 -1 currently in the season all with giddy the main reason. Yeah ok keep bashing on Giddy and is this your full time job????? Lets rate this crap report. Get a real job.

  18. His footwork is unorthodox because he grew up in Australia with FIBA rules rather than a massive NBA influence like USA

  19. Giddey in my eyes reminds me of someone I loved to hate (100% complement) years ago, his name was Bird! Giddey and Bird play a different NBA game, however, he reminds me of the the crafty Bird that I watched long ago. Don't get me wrong, it's just a reminder, not a compairison. I am so looking forward to his career and how he builds on his talent, I would love a guy like him in his coming up to prime years on the Knicks if we didn't have Brunson. 🙂
