Raptors run out of gas in Philly | Post Game Live

The Toronto will face off against division rival Philadelphia 76ers after a tough game last night for the NBA cup. This is a schedule loss if I’ve ever seen one, and to make matters worse, Toronto will be down their only 7-footer Jakob Poeltl who has been playing relatively competent basketball over the last 2 games as he gets back from his back injury.

The Raptors can afford to drop a game here, but with Nick Nurse on the other end, and the man who prematurely ended his SOLE playoff run, Scottie Barnes should* have something extra in the tank. Immanuel Quickley will also have a familiar foe in Tyrese Maxey on the other end. The pair started together for the Wildcats and their careers are a nice example of why you don’t need a top 20 pick to find starters in the draft.

The Raptors will be relying more than ever on Scottie, Mogbo, CMB and Mamu to slow down the mega-sized Sixers centre rotation which includes Embiid, Drummond and Adem Bona.

  1. feel like we’ve been trying to solve our center depth issue for years now.. we seriously need to prioritize getting our center for the future and at the very least our back up center for the short term

  2. Darko has to be better (front office also need to be better moving forward) edit: has Ochai made a bucket this season? lmao

  3. Seriously, that was dumb of darko to put Ochai who contributed nothing to the starting line up? At what point do you reward serviceable and quality players like battle?? Makes no fucking sense

  4. What does the FO even do at this point. BI IQ RJ Jak ain’t it. I don’t envy Bobby he’s got tough decisions to make on guys he won’t get great returns on. Won’t be a surprise if he tears it all down 😂

  5. Shame to shoot the three that well and lose anyway. 'Scheduled losses' are part of the game, there was a lot to like about the team tonight. I'm enjoying following this team. I'm older now, I don't care about wins and losses, I care how the wins and losses took place. Lots of up arrows on this team, and if Ingram can play like this consistently that trade is going to look like a steal. I really like how often I'm expecting a player to take a good shot, only for him to make a quick pass to a teammate with an even better shot.

It's not just the fatigue that gets you down on the second half of a back to back, it's also the fatigue-induced errors. Frustrating to watch, counterproductive to blame the player IMO. They're part of sports, just like blunders are part of chess.

  6. Question for the room – in basketball, how much time do prospects usually get to develop before their team gives up on them? In hockey, my sense is sort of "2-4 years for a forward, 3-5 years for a defender, 5-6 years as a goalie, the higher they were drafted the longer their team tends to hang on to them."

  7. We really need some toughness in the paint, we need to try & make a trade for either Neemias Queta, Wendell Carter Jr, Isiah Stewart, Gafford or Yves Messi

Ochai, Jak, Mogbo & either Jakobe or Gradey need to go!

As Rob mentioned many times before, Jak's contract is really going to hurt us badly as he is ageing, more injury prone, getting slower, getting softer & can't shoot.

It would be wise of the font office to build Jak's, Ochai's & Jakobe's value as much as possible & trade them along with some second round picks for the piece we so desperately need.

I know its soon but we should also consider tanking propely this year & hopefully getting a top 3 pick in the draft by next year. If we hit on the draft we can actually start competing in the East as early as next year.

If we continue like this we will be a middle of the pack team, at best a first round exit, we won't get a really good lottery pick & it will just be another wasted season of the Front Office jerking us around & us continuing to be mediocre.

We need to tank like Philly did last year & land our version of VJ Edgecombe, the piece that we need like an AJ Dybantsa or a Cam Boozer.
