The problem with the "Standard" we supposedly have is that people are not playing up to it, and yet they still get rewarded with starting positions and minutes. The only way to get their attention is to sit them and let them know, when they feel up to working hard, they can play again.

I don't envy the position Doug Christie is in. He has a bad roster that is way too small and guard heavy. Most of them either don't put in effort on Defense or just play defense so badly that it wouldn't matter anyway.
This team is needing a rebuild and I hope Vivek is finally realizing it.
This is why it is going to be super important to gather picks for the 2026 draft class. Especially lottery picks.
Nothing is saving this season. Not even when Keegan Murray comes back in a couple of weeks. Though I am sure that Murray will be better for the team out there.
I actually expected them to be worse than they are. That's how little I have faith in this team. Especially with Keegan Murray out.
I just look at it as, hopefully we get a nice return if/when we can trade DeRozan and Monk and Ellis and Westbrook. Hopefully one of them brings back a first round pick.

As for Doug's words carrying meaning…they would carry meaning if he had a team with guys who actually care.
I don't know why Keon Ellis isn't playing more, but it has to be something that both Mike Brown and Doug Christie saw going on behind the scenes. I don't know if it's attitude or effort or something else, but there has to be something that they have seen that they don't like.
It could be that Vivek is interfering with the decisions on the bench. That could be part of it as well.
I would be curious to know that answer myself.
