Luka Doncic is playing some of his best basketball, Austin Reaves is playing at an All-NBA level, and guys like Marcus Smart, Deandre Ayton, Jake Laravia, and Bronny James contributing. Meanwhile, LeBron James hasn’t even played yet and could be returning somewhat soon. This Lakers team could be better than expected.

I don't care for the Lakers, but anyone who thought they wouldn't be good, even with the injuries, doesn't watch basketball or is a hater. Their only weakness last year was having no center, and Ayton is a good center when he is motivated. I watched him make big plays for the Suns to make the Finals until Giannis took his soul, and he became a headache because he wanted more touches on offense. He doesn't have the passion, but he can play. He's one of the few bigs that can switch on the perimeter and not get bullied in the paint. Rui is a phenomenal role player, and Vanderbilt is a unit on defense. They have the two best white boys in the league, and JJ is a good, young coach. They should be a top seed again this year with a healthy Luka, Bron, and Reeves leading the way.
as a laker fan no, i honestly don't think we have the personal to be competitive till the end. It would take smart to return to be elite and dpoy caliber player while being somehow efficient offensively, luka and reaves to be consistently healthy, lebron to buy in to a secondary role for real or even as a third ball handler with how reeves is being elite with the ball in his hands, Ayton to somehow find its best shape like the year before he got his bag from the suns and the whole support cast to keep being good. We all know will come the games where the bench will put up only 10 points and have a collective box plus minus of -40 or so. Let's see where we will go without raising the bar too much, considering this a transition year from bron to luka, I'm happy to see a blueprint of what we will be, that's my goal for the year and I think it's realistic

One of the interesting things this has shown about the Lakers is that when LeBron is out, the ball movement and role player involvement increases. By not knowing who is going to cook you that night, it makes it hard to defend the Lakers. I anticipate they become a more high-middle of the pack team when LeBron comes back.

Most of the people here are talking about who is 2nd and 3rd option or whatnot. Is it AR or LBJ? The thing is they are interchangable when it comes to ball distribution. AR is solid at worse 3 lvl scorer, LBJ is the best all around player they have on the team. My point is there is no use of pinpointing which role should be or not, as long as Luka is the captain of the ship, this team is championship caliber when healthy.

But why? People hated on us because of the name, but 3 star offensive creators, an upgraded big, added defense and intensity, more rotation pieces and a good coach. If this same roster was on any other team people would be drooling.

Playing without the shadow of LeBron hanging over them has allowed them to play freely. The biggest concerns for the Lakers are their defense and their relative lack of ball movement, imo. They are near the bottom in passes per game according to 2nd Spectrum. Now, that's mainly because Luka and Reaves are the main creators, but JJ could have others more involved.
