  1. The Celtics lost Jayson Tatum, a top 3-5 player in the league. They signed Anfernee Simons, maybe one of the top 130 players in the league. Maybe. They they lost Al Horford, Jrue Holiday, Kristoph Porzingis, and Luc Kornet. That's 3 current or former All Stars, plus a handy and mobile big man who is a solid contributor. they also lost about 21 feet of total height off their front court. I waited to see how these players would be replaced. Apparently, Garza, Minot, and rookie Hugo Gonzalez were the replacements. They kept their other bench players, and moved some of them into the starting line-up. But these were the same players who were bench warmers last year, Queta, Jordan Walsh, Tillman, etc. Honestly, as an average NBA fan, I have never heard of Garza, Minot or Gonzalez. Gonzalez was a rookie and there was a lot of press about him in the pre-season. But he looked extremely ordinary to me. Lots of rookies do well in pre-season and then disappear when the real games start. He looks like one of these. Looking at the whole team, I would have to say that they have lost 55-65% of their talent. Jalen Brown is legit and trying to carry his team. Derek White and Pritchard have been asked to step up and take up more of the load, but instead, both players have regressed significantly. Instead of shining as they did in the past, both are struggling visibly. I had hoped that, even with the loss of Tatum, the Celtics would still try to do something this season. I guess they did. What management has decided to do is to tank and just save their resources for next year. At the beginning of the season, I foolishly thought they would still win 48-52 games. I am now putting them down for 35 to 39 wins this season. A losing season is almost a certainty, and if anything like even the slightest injury takes Brown out of the lineup for 5-10 games, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 30-33 win season. Oh well, it's early, but I don't see any way they can really improve. Lack of talent is lack of talent. But as a Boston sports fan, at least I have the NE Patriots, who have come out of nowhere to have the best record in the NFL. Some of this is due to their soft schedule, but they have a good coach and probably the best young QB in the league. I am not expecting a Superbowl ring. But they are going to the playoffs and I can't wait to see how far they get this year.
