Nuggets-Kings Reaction: Jokic still UNGUARDABLE + Thunder smoke Warriors & 76ers beat Celtics

Jason reacts to Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets staying hot with a win over Russell Westbrook and the Sacramento Kings. Then he breaks down how Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder dominated the Golden State Warriors in Steph Curry’s first game back from illness, plus Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers skated by Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics.

  1. Yeah and remember when people used to say Jokic didn’t want to play bball and only wanted to play with his horsies…

  2. Denver will get better and better from game to game, OKC will gradually fall, SA too, there are a few landmines, but the basket is always early!

  3. Why isnt Jimmy Butler being more aggressive… if hes gonna wait till april to start shooting the ball then golden state has no chance

  4. Mailbag: Hey Jason. Recent local reports say the Kings are gearing up for a full teardown of their core roster. How should they going about trading Derozan/Lavine/Sabonis? Is it smart for the Kings to avoid haggling for big returns on these contracts that are not all that desirable? Big fan of the show, keep up the great work.

  5. Jason, I truly think that the entire league has been put on notice to haunt Cam and not let him get into any rhythm or it’s a wrap! Every team attacks & haunts Cam like a dog! Even when all teams know his shooting has been horrendous! 😂

  6. Mailbag question: What do you think of the Lakers trading for Jrue Holiday? Gabe, Dalton, Maxi (and a 1st if needed) should do it.

  7. If gsw wins against these bottom tier or middle tier teams it doesn't really matter. There's still a level over there. So if yall can't beat thunders without jdub and lu dort then don't dream of winning much playoffs games

  8. I don't understand teams philosophy on guarding jokic. Send a tall double. It can cut off his passing lanes and limit his vision.
It's always 1 v 1 for fear of passing–if he has the ball, he should be doubled. If he gets the pass off–who cares? The goal is he either turns it over, is forced to create for himself or has to make a 2nd or 3rd option pass.

  9. Man jokic just gets everything so easily. As a viewer it looks like there is not enough resistance. And the nuggets players (obviously with jokic as the perfect example) are insanely good at moving off ball and assisting one another. Crazy.

The box score kills me as well. The rage is warranted😂

  10. Mailbag: with the pace okc is on without J dub seeing a minute yet,if they repeat are they on par with the KD warriors? And would they beat the 01 lakers. It just seems like on any given night Anyone can join Shai and score 20+ with a nightmarish defense

  11. What do you mean they haven't been good in offensive and defensive glass? Nuggets is one of the top leaders in the second chance pt and their defense is rank 3rd.

  12. On the bench:

Murray-Brown-THJ-Watson-Valanciunas is esentially 4 guards + Val brother. THJ and Watson at SF and PF are both bottom 2nd percentile in DREB%. And if Valanciunas lineups can't even rebound defensively, it's just over on that end lol

Nootice how when you insert AG next to Val the defensive OREB% goes from 33.3% to 17%, no way

Murray +/- Cam + Big PF (AG, Zeke, Holmes) + Val

is the formula for successful bench minutes with this roster. 5th could be THJ/Watson/Brown/Pickett/Jones/Strawther

    On Cam:

There needs to be a way bigger effort to get him involved and cater to him offensively. Offensive hierarchy should change.

For the most part they're using Can as a spot-up, 4th/5th option, one pass away guy that MPJ was mostly in late on in his tenure. MPJ, with his quicker trigger and higher release was better suited for that spot as a release valve.

AG with his shot improving scaling up more offensively to a 2nd/3rd option hasn't helped either. He's been efficient too.

But end of the day if this is going to be Cam's role he wasn't the idealcplayer to target. Dude averaged 19ppg on 63% TS as a 1st/2nd option depending on CT's availability. You're straight losing out on massive value if you're scaling him down. AG gives you more ancilliary value & defense if you scale him down instead. Cam should be a mainstay in the 3-man actions they run.

    Best of both worlds:

You stagger Cam or AG alongside Murray with the bench. The starting lineup is stacked, this offers better usage distribution and better non-Jokic minutes.

  13. Mailbag:

I dont even think this is a hot take. Everyone is getting their bag advertising sports betting but fail to understand (or dont care) the complete destruction of the integrity of our sports due to this. Do you feel that sports betting is taking over our beloved game of basketball?

Ive watched your stuff for a while and do enjoy your content! Thank you.

  14. Butler vs OKC is a useless player. They are extremely smart and don't bite on pumpfakes. He can barely draw fouls vs them and he refuses to shoot jumpers hehe

  15. Jamal Murray – Tim Hardaway Jr – B Brown – Payton Watson – Jonas V is on paper a playoff team in the East, at least.

  16. mailbag: the interview for Jimmy and Draymond after the okc game mentioning about being real with themselves and something about the difference of last year and this year is everyone was commited to winning. Do you think they taking a shot at somebody at the roster perhaps JK/Podz?

Also if I can ask 1 more, If this season is a dud and everything falls to hell, should they blow up the core, maybe a Curry trade (which I think is close to impossible) or Jimmy/Green trade to get some assets to build for the future at last?

    Thanks, Big fan Jason!

  17. Ran across this stat today. So far this season and before last night's game Jokic had generated 260 points through his assists which works out to 29 ppg! Ever crazier is the fact that he's created 2.45 points per assist. That's insane. Almost 2 1/2 points per assist. Obviously that's possible because of assists on 3 pointers, but still, that's one of the craziest numbers I've ever heard. When you combine points off assists with his scoring he's generating 55 ppg which is 44% of the Nuggets scoring.! By contrast SGA is generating 46 ppg thru scoring and assists, Luka 56, and Giannis 47. More evidence that Joker is one of the greatest offensive engines ever.

  18. To those that are are saying "yeah, but wait until the Nuggets play GOOD teams":
    1. The two games they've lost so far they were tied with 0:00 left in the 4th quarter, and one of them was to an all-time great who went god-mode in OT.
    2. Around this time last season, they were dropping games to the Wizards and Pelicans. The fact that they are winning games that they SHOULD be winning is a good sign, and an even a better one when their 2nd and 3rd option are taking a day off, or when an acquisition's still figuring out the system.

  19. "OKC playing its best basketball right now…" while missing an All-Star, a starter, and a couple of quality bench contributors. It will be interesting how they will compare in March & April.
