“According to sources, [Mark] Cuban hopes to hire Dennis Lindsey, the former Utah vice president and general manager who is currently the second highest-ranking member of the Detroit Pistons’ front office. Lindsey served as a senior advisor for the Mavs during the 2023-24 season, when he had input on personnel moves that helped build the Finals roster around Doncic. It is not known at this point how receptive Dumont will be to Cuban’s plan, but they have been in frequent dialogue in recent months, a significant change after Cuban was pushed completely out of basketball operations last season and blindsided by the Doncic deal. Coach Jason Kidd received a multi-year contract extension during the preseason after Dallas declined to give him permission to interview with the New York Knicks over the summer.”

Im sure fans want to see dirk as gm(I would love it) but the main reason I know it won't happen is because dirk does not like the new owners. Most people we respect and look up to don't like the new owners, which I wish someone would investigate as to why.
My suspicion has been(because I follow world politics), that because people like Luka and dirk have international reach(Luka is basically king of Slovenia and is actually really close to the president) that places like Slovenia are one of the first countries in recent years to put their foot down and give the middle finger to Israel, and actually stand by it.
Who is the world's biggest supporter of Israel you may ask? Well I'll be damned, it happens to be a widow of a casino tycoon, whom[checks notes]…of which owns the Dallas mavericks.
I mean dirk has a statue and street named after him in Dallas and he still got out of town. At some point it's got to be on us to read the writing on the wall.

Dirk would be fine. He’d provide the leadership, culture and vision. He would just have to provide oversight while the rest of the office builds to his vision. Don’t forget, John Elway and John Lynch went from player to GM/VP of their former teams, and they built KILLER teams. There is precedent.

Firing your GM does not make Dallas Mavericks good or bad. The GM does not play basketball.
