I mean, if I were drafting the #1 pick who is 18 years old and building a team, I surely wouldn't plan to dominate year 1. This is a multi-year process… Cooper has the talent, like other rookies, although the youngest and they need at LEAST 1 year of growth.
One other thing I'd point out, Luka has lost over 31 pounds in the offseason and elevated his game. I don't think that would have happened if he didn't get traded. It was the trade that caused Luka to step it up in every aspect. Honestly, if you are more of a Luka fan than Mavericks fan you should be happy! Competitive people become more motivated and disciplined when faced with some sort of adversity or hardship. He was too comfortable in the Mav's, annoyed with the results of numerous seasons but not enough to become who he is today. Shoot, when Luka retires he should be thanking the (now fired) Mav's GM! Who knows, maybe they were actually really close and the GM bit the bullet to watch Luka become something GREAT! Just saying
