BREAKING: New Orleans Pelicans FIRE Head Coach Willie Green | James Skrmetta Reacts

BREAKING NEWS: The New Orleans Pelicans have officially fired head coach Willie Green after a disastrous 2-10 start to the season, and James Skrmetta is here with a full reaction, breakdown, and deep-dive into what this means for the Pelicans’ future. In this video, James analyzes why Willie Green was let go, how Zion Williamson’s recurring hamstring injuries impacted the team, and why the Pelicans’ historically bad start forced Joe Dumars and the front office to make a drastic change.

We cover what went wrong, the Pelicans’ bottom-five offensive and defensive rankings, the impact of losing Jordan Poole and Dejounte Murray, the emergence of rookies Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears, and what interim head coach James Borrego brings to the table.

James Skrmetta also looks at how big offseason moves, the loss of key draft picks, and constant injuries have put New Orleans in a critical position moving forward and whether this firing signals a total franchise reset.

If you’re a Pelicans fan, NBA fan, or New Orleans sports fan, this is your must-watch reaction video. COMMENT your thoughts on whether the Pelicans made the right move firing Willie Green and what’s next for Zion, Borrego, and the franchise.

  1. Unfortunately for Green, I think this was the right move, the players didn’t know what to do or they didn’t care enough to do the right things

  2. James, the Pelicans and the NBA need to start cutting you checks, as I never cared about either till you started putting out content on them. Good stuff, happy Saturday!

  3. They are going to have a hard time moving Zion. There's not many developmental coaches in the NBA right now and Zion needs a lot of work (conditioning, injuries, off-court).

  4. There is no good coaches who will coach for the pelicans especially in the beginning of the season like the NFL there is no tampering so you can’t talk to coaches or players during season. Gayle should have fired Willie Green in the offseason. the pelicans have been ass since Tom Benson died similar to the saints Gayle has no clue what she is doing. NBA is different than the NFL where owners have all the power especially when comes with whole operations, she needs to go take classes from Jeanie Buss. Gayle Benson at no point is looked at in NBA circles as being a good owner or even an owner of importance. Which is why the Pelicans are always in talks about being sold or the laughingstock of the NBA Gayle has to realize it starts with her and with her. Her whole puff piece in the news paper is a joke even though most of it was about the saints but when you have people for the pelicans work for you say the organization is split on Willie green really meant everyone besides her wanted Willie gone even your new GM

  5. For the first time in a while, Im pretty damn excited to see where new orleans sports goes. Feel like its big things in the works. May take a couple years but its better than complacency

  6. Willie "3rd quarter" Green, a well-liked former player, but this doesn't always transfer well to the coaching seat.

4 seasons without tickets for me. It's obvious that he hasn't been the answer for some time, in particular, in combo with former PBO David Griffin. Also, say adios to Williamson with Queen showing much promise.

It will take time for a glorious comeback in NOLA sports.

  7. It’s takes Saints and Pelicans to turn into complete shit and are forced into making a change

  8. Pels are still gonna be bad. Borego is gonna bring more motion to offense. Might see more ball movement, pin down, back door cuts. Zion is gonna be forced to be more of a playmaker. Think of what he did to help that Kings offense. Willie was more of a players defensive coach, James is more offensive, analytics and fitness oriented

  9. Derik Queen is gonna get more minutes, he’s gonna turn Murphy and Poole into lights out 3pt shooters. He’s gonna help develop fears. He’s good at using players strengths but he’s not a great defensive coach. He plays a scheme where we stop the 3 play semi aggressive at the nail and let our bigs do the work. Problem is we don’t have the bigs nor the ball stoppers

  10. No way get rid of zion now
Zion a good facilitator suck in defense QUEEN a good facilitator put them on court together with a tru point guard that's Murray

  11. Imagine Mike Malone with Derik Queen. No one is Jokic..he’s one of one. However, Queen’s style of play is similar and Malone would know how to develop Queen, due to his familiarity with coaching Jokic. If Barego doesn’t pan out they should definitely consider Malone or even Frank Vogel.

  12. All I gotta say is God is good James. DA gone, Willie Green gone, and finally our poor teams are able to get back on their feet.

  13. I want to see Queen and Zion on the floor together to see what that looks like. Queen at the high post feeding it to a cutting Zion could work, I think. Hopefully James Borrego can get the offense humming because the defense is just going to be what it is, which won't be great.
