When You Realize Just How Bad The OKC Thunder Got The NBA Cooked

The OKC Thunder are still looking like they’re better than everybody else to start the new NBA season. Currently, the defending champs have the league’s best record and also the best net rating in the NBA. The Thunder have already defeated teams like the Lakers with Luka Doncic, and the Houston Rockets with Kevin Durant. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is off to another MVP-caliber start to the year rivaling Giannis, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Victor Wembanyama. Shai is averaging 32 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists on solid 51 36 90 percent shooting splits. This puts him on pace to join Michael Jordan and Giannis as the only players in league history to put up a 30 5 and 5 season on at least 50 percent shooting for 3 straight years. The thing is, OKC looks even better this season fresh off winning the NBA championship, despite missing rotation players. The Thunders’ All-star, All-NBA, and All-defense second option in Jalen Williams has yet to play a single game, while Alex Caruso, Lu Dort, Chet Holmgren, and a number of other Thunder players have also missed time.

The Thunders defense has still been their main driving force. Lu Dort and Alex Caruso have continued to torment ballhandlers with their athletic and physical brand of lockdown defense, while Cason Wallace has been making a compelling case to join them as elite perimeter pests. Wallace currently leads the NBA in steals per game while also ranking 3rd in deflections per game, all while being an agent of chaos for OKC, constantly deploying his quick hands and impeccable timing to cause disruption whenever he’s on the floor. And whenever OKCs missing a starter, Coach Daigneault has the luxury of turning to his bench that’s loaded with versatile rotation players who are always ready to step up. They have Aaron Wiggins, Isaiah Joe, Jalen Williams, and now Ajay Mitchell has also emerged as OKCs 3rd-leading scorer.

Sam Presti has stocked this team with players that have the kind of traits that are just hard to teach or replicate. Sure, it’s hard to consistently win at the highest level in this league. In fact. In the NBAs 76-year history, only 6 franchises have been able to win back to back championships. The Celtics did it a couple times in the 60s, the Lakers have done it 5 times, Detroit has done it once, the Chicago Bulls have a couple three-peats, and we’ve seen the Miami Heat and Golden State accomplish this over the past decade. Right now, the 2026 OKC Thunder are clearly primed to join those teams as back to back champions in an era wherein the league is basically trying to prevent things like this from happening. Teams like the Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, and San Antonio Spurs have been surprised to start the year but the OKC Thunders dominance has remained constant. .

  1. All their best players are young. It’s a pretty simple concept. And it looks like they will be able to keep most if not all players.

  2. After watching the lakers and warriors games , knowing who hasn’t been or isn’t available , we have to wait for Denver , LeBrons return, and the continued improvement of the spurs to find a contender.. With Aj, Isiah Joe, CASO , and Wiggs other benches will struggle to match their scoring. This is a history making team..

  3. I can't see any team beating OKC in a 7 game playoff series for the next couple of years assuming their big three (chet, JDub and SGA) are healthy. I'll have to see it happen to believe it.

  4. Yes their defense and offense are great but what has really put them in the best position ? Their behaviour ! It’s truly to stay that hungry and consitent when you’ve alrealdy won it all espesiaclly when you’re young and yet they’re doing it.

In a era where everybody is looking at the stats, the sport science etc they just hold to very high standarts and that’s where succes begins.

  5. OKC ain’t repeating. If Denver had been healthy, they would’ve lost to Denver last season. Most likely they will lose to Denver this season. Sorry Oklahoma, it was nice for a spell.

  6. Okc has the Clippers unprotected 1st round pick this year. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but if they were to get lucky could you imagine a finals team getting the #1 pick?

  7. Couple things… the playoffs are a completely different animal than reg season. Many teams have great reg season records then look WAY less dominant in the playoffs, i.e. Cavs last year. Also, OKC barely beat the 4 seed Pacers last year, and probably would've lost had Halliburton not gone down, and there's WAY higher competition in the NBA than last year's Pacers. Dont get me wrong, OKC is a FANTASTIC team, but they'll have tough competition and are NOT in some vastly higher class than the other elite teams.

  8. This young thunder team is so good they are scary and they're just going to get better the NBA has a thunder problem

  9. It's OUR league now and the championship 🏆 running through Oklahoma for the next half decade if not more Thunder ⛈️ Up baby 💪💯

  10. Nuggets took these boys to 7 last season.
Nuggets have depth this year and the way Jokic is playing right now id be terrified if i was an OKC fan.

Nuggets are the big, Mangy, Angry, Smelly elephant in the room😂

  11. They’ve won more games than any other franchise over the past 16 years. They haven’t even played their last two first round picks. It’s wild.
