Spurs are claiming it's a calf strain, not contusion. If it's a true strain, it's probably from a sudden burst of running or jumping upon a fatigued calf muscle. This is why we're not only seeing more injuries these days but teams are realizing some players need to rest more for prevention of injury/re-injury. That's why players are getting prolonged rehab time, keeping an eye on them being healthy for the playoffs at the end of a rigorous season.
