“The belief, from sources I spoke to, is that the Mavs moving on from at least Davis, if not both stars, was the optimal strategy. Those moves would help maximize the 2026 first-round pick in a loaded 2026 draft class — the only selection Dallas controls the rest of this decade — to reposition the franchise around 2025 No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg.”
Western Conference exec on risk of trading for Davis:
“While you can point to Davis as a top-20 player in Los Angeles, it is a $175 million gamble and perhaps more, if you trade for him. I would want to see a long stretch of games of Davis healthy before there could ever be a discussion.”

The Mavs are in a precarious position. They need to play AD for keeping or increasing his value, but they need to tank for lottery positioning. It's going to tough to balance that out.
I honestly don't care what we get, a couple picks and a couple expiring contracts, I don't care, I want him off our books and have 0 faith in him as a basketball player. He is NOT a top 75 player all time, he has no business in the Hall of Fame, and it absolutely disgusts me how much money this dude has made without doing ANYTHING. AD and his contract may be an albatross around the Mavs neck for years to come. I think best case is a 1st round pick and some expiring contracts. After that it's just a salary dump…a bunch of expiring contracts without the pick. Then…it's just AD sitting on the bench for almost 3 seasons and eating up a massive chunk of salary cap. Can he even play 40 games in a season at this point? It's not like he's landing on people and twisting ankles or anything. He gets hurt just by running and jumping

the issue is any team that would take AD is a contender 1 piece away so the picks we are gonna get for AD are gonna be low first round picks. We might also get with the pick a bad contract player or older players with maybe one decent young piece. No bad team is gonna sacrifice their future picks and trade their whole roster with young potential to match ADs salary for a year or 2 with AD. The teams that have our picks probably won't wanna touch AD. It's a tough situation also because of his salary and the team Mavs are trading with have to match it. The trade offers are gonna be very bad.
If he cant be a force in helping us win, he absolutely should go. If he can’t play and they can’t trade him, cut him and open up his roster spot for someone who can. We need players on the court, not wearing Packer jerseys on the sidelines.
