Hawks don't need Trae Young. Whenever he is on the floor their defense is on of the worst in the league. Offense is good but is not enough.
I think the Hawks could try to trade for someone like a JJJ or Lauri or get some good role players, couple around 20 – 30M save some $$$ and pick your next franchise player in the 2026 NBA draft, thanks to the stxpidity of Joe Dumars (Pelicans GM)

Mo Gueye is actually 6’11 but he moves with the fluidity of a 6’8 player

Hawks fan here and I like Trae but if they can get Peterson or the PG from Louisville, I would let Trae walk and move forward with this core. Very excited for the Hawks future!

Trae young is so overrated
The Hawks are BIG, Play Defense & Rebound without Trae Young. There are a tone of better ways to spend Trae Youngs almost 50 Million a Year. Trade Young the overpaid diva shrimp.
I am a fan of moving Trae…. but knowing the Hawks and almost all Atlanta Pro teams, they don't make that decision. They are weak minded. The Braves have been the only Atlanta team with real guts to make difficult decisions correctly. Look at the Falcon's they have become a JOKE.

As a long time Atlanta fan, this team right now is similar to the 2014-2015 roster. Lots of really good players playing good team basketball, won 60 games, and was swept by LeBron and the Cavs with no Kevin love and kyrie only playing 22 minutes of game 4. Trae even in playoff losses has been a playoff riser, this team can stack regular season wins but when the games slow in the post season and it’s a lot more half court offense we won’t go far with Trae. If you don’t think he can be a number 1 that’s fine but this hawks team will still need a player better than Trae to have any post season success.

Whenever the Hawks get behind, Trae takes it upon himself to start shooting every time he comes down the court. A large percentage of those shots are "logo launches." He makes about 1 in every 8 of them. The other team gets the long rebound, fast break, and it almost always ends up a 2 or 3 on 1. Guess who that 1 is? Right.
In the 5 games that he played, he was hitting 19% from downtown, and 37% overall from the field. That sucks.
I don't think he has the ego to handle JJ being the #1 player right now.
Trae is very slow, this current team moves way to fast for him. I am a Hawks fan and love Trae, but you need to trade him and get the value for him.

Best part about this is that they're doing all of this without the older players on the team. This squad is super young and they probably have a top 3 pick in next year's super draft.

Hawks fan, the real basketball heads are NOT fans of Young here in The A. He holds the ball, calls for 90 picks to score 25 points. Guys just are standing round trying to help him get those 25 points. MOVE HIM.
The Hawks are better with Trae… People keep quoting that we were 1-3 with him this season… Those 4 games were against the thunder, raptors, bulls, and magic… All very solid to great teams… In our run of wins since he's been hurt, we have beaten the pacers, kings, jazz, clippers, and nets… All of which are playing horrible basketball… We also have been able to build some continuity that is allowing us to play better… At the beginning of the year everything just looked clunky because a lot of our players weren't comfortable playing with one another… When Trae comes back, this team will take off… We have found what our rotations need to look like, he will make the offense fly, Jalen Johnson finally realizes how good he is, and all of this will lead to the hawks being the team they should be…

– Only 2 of those games came against Top-10 teams
– ATL is 1st in Transition PTS Added, which is masking their slightly above league average HC offense (13th)
– Their +9.2 net falls to +3.2 when the IND/SAC blowouts are excluded
So yes, they’ve had a great run without him beating up on the leagues bottom feeders, but unfortunately, this is not a long-term recipe for success and they will desperately need him against the least top teams

Hawks fans have been brainwashed thinking that Trae Young is the end all be all for us. Realistically ever since the ECF run we made, what have we done with Trae Young leading the team? I get he is a great player but his terrible defensive effort, ball dominant predictable offense and Steph Curry cosplay shot selection has put me off of him when we are constant play-in exits every year
